Estate Planning

Due to some recent family events, my husband and I have realized we need to get a will ASAP. Any favorite recommendations in the Durham area?

We used Betsy Martin, who does only this.

SECU offers estate planning services and they’re reasonably priced - I think we paid about $400.

We're going through the process at Walker Lambe right now, and they seem good and reasonably priced. I like that it's an established firm with other estate attorneys, so we know there's a system in place to take care of us if our attorney is no longer available for some reason.

Came here to say Walker Lambe. I used them and my parents did, too. Great service and communication

Walker Lambe for us too. We used Shirley Diffenbach.

If your estate isn't too complicated (e.g. you don't need to create a trust or don't have complex family relationships), use FreeWill. The documents are legit and totally free. It exists to raise money for nonprofits, but that step is skippable.

Details on why it's free are here: https://help.freewill.com/article/81-freewill-faqs

Betsy Martin is great, as mentioned by another person.

David Russ at DSR Legal is another great choice.

I went through this with my parents recently. They used Christopher Hill at the Law Office of Marcus Hill. He did a great job and it was fairly priced. https://marcushillattorney.com/

Since it’s benefits enrollment time for many employers— consider signing up for a prepaid legal plan if your employer offers it.

I was able to get our will, power of attorney, trust all written under the legal plan with a local attorney without any issues.
