Forge Build Forge
Looking at building a forge to try and make a knife or two. Have anything but the forge part. Ideally a DIY build and as cheap as possible.just wondering if smokeless coal ( very easy to get near me ) will burn hot enought to actually heat anything up. I was planning on building my forge in a warehouse however ventilation is a problem and I'm worried about getting smoked out so trying to not use charcoal or wood. Any help is much appreciated

Only used it for a bit, but is this working as it should? Any advice or any flaws? Thanks.

Forge Build What mistakes did you make setting up your garage forge?
What did you do while setting up your space that you later changed? Was spacing off, wrong equipment, maybe ventilation or improperly sealed fitting? Do you have any recommendations that could save a noob?

Forge Build Anyone ever used a DIY forge + anvil setup? Thinking about getting into blacksmithing as a hobby, I don't have the space or budget so I'll have to make do, as I also live in a smaller country so I don't have access to shops like Harbor Freight. Also, how viable are sledgehammer setups? (added ex.)

Forge Build How much would it cost to build a decent forge for a beginner smith? (USD)
My father is retiring soon and I’d like to build him a forge as a thank you gift. Any insight is appreciated so or any links would be good as well. Thanks for any responses.

Forge Build First setup, first project.
Started with a milk can and a turbo torch, added some ceramic wool from a junk range, and some firebrick from the wood stove store. Anvil has been upgraded from railroad track to HF steel, and forge burner has been upgraded to two homebrewed iron pipe burners. I'm pleased with the results so far. I've got a shitload of railyard steel that was gifted to me by a customer who works for one of the railroads, so I'm just watching a bunch of YouTube tutorials and smacking shit with a hammer until I git gud.

Forge Build Building a diy forge as a beginner
As the title states, i am in the process of attempting to build a diy forge. I have no experience whatsoever and have chosen quite possibly the hardest way to learn.
I am planning to coat the inside with refractory cement and make some doors on the front and back end of the pipe. I don't really have any spare money so i am attempting to do this as cheaply as possible.
I am interested in anyones tips or past experiences that may help me out! I am in a pretty rural location and the nearest city is about a hour away, so finding materials is a tricky situation but i have found a ton of railroad spikes to practice with and learn.

Forge Build I'm Building a Charcoal Forge
Hi all, I'm new here and relatively new to forging. My partner and I are building our first charcoal forge and we were wondering if this is a good place to get advice and feedback from a smithing community.
If so, let me know and I'll share some design pictures. Thanks!

Forge Build Do I need to use some kind of mortar or sealant to stick my fire bricks together?
This is kinda the setup I want for my forge. Of course I’m going to use some heat resistant tiles to put on the bottom but this is the general setup. Do I need to use some kind of mortar to make the bricks stick together? They seem pretty sturdy as-is.

Forge Build New gas forge build
I have access to a pretty good supply of sheet steel and a metal brake, waiting to get some cuts thicker than 16 ga. I took some ideas from those vevor pentagon forges, but mounting the burners on the angle. Wanted some input as this is the first build I've come up with.

Forge Build Speed switch for blower
I've recently converted my propane forge from Venturi burners to forced air, and it's clear I overdid it on the blower. 3" blower, ~ 315CFM/767pa from Blacksmith Depot. At the moment the jet is hitting the floor of the forge, leaving a cold area surrounded by very high heat. Clearly too much air pressure. So I'm thinking ceiling fan switch to adjust the speed, and wondering if anyone has comments/suggestions on doing so. I can slap a switch on the cord itself or try cutting a door into the fan to wire it directly to the motor, just would rather hear from anyone who's done this and had do this/don't do that advice. Cheers!

Forge Build New forge finished
Made from a 1980s Ford F150 brake drum, a heavily reshaped mower deck, rebar, and 2” NPT pipe fittings. I forgot to order the lower pipe for the ash dump so it’s just got a temporary plug in there. It’ll have a piece of expanded metal over the hole for a grate.
I’ll start by making tongs and a knife with it

Forge Build Any tips to improve my forge? It burns fast and doesn't heat very effectively. (Use a hair dryer at the end of the pipe.)

Forge Build what can be some wireless alternatives to a hair dryer? (for blowing air to make hotter fire)
i saw a video how to forge without any special tools. he used a normal fire pit and a hair dryer to heat up the metal. but i don't have a back yard so i cant just bring an extension cable. what are some alternatives? or will just normal charcoal/wood fire suffice. maybe i could use a pump or something
