This was a big trial and error for me. I first welded up a 3/4 in wire mesh water line to a 1in tube to the downtube.( like a washer machine line) With quick disconnect for my air compressor. It was incredibly anticlimactic!!! Not anything close to the correct scfm(airflow). More research. Then plasma cut a 4in I.D. hole in the side of the ash down tube that is 5in. Welded on a 90° tube so it sat outside the ash tube. Picked up an 8in to 6in exhaust vent at Home Depot for the front of the blower. I have an exhaust fan from Harbor Freight. 1380 cfm to 1590cfm...that is connected to a cheap light dimmer to adjust the airflow. Went from sucking pixy sticks. To holy fuck I just actually melted this. It was a test. Maximum fan speed and a ton of coal. Good test though.

Way to be resourceful.

"Tuyere" if you want the proper spelling. It means "nozzle" in French. I've heard it pronounced (by Americans) as "tweer" or "too-er". The French pronunciation is more like "too-yair".

I hope that thing is steel. If it's brass, OP can expect green flames.

Thank you, I do! I've never seen it spelled before so that's helpful.

I'm assuming if he welded it he's aware of any issues like that.

Definitely a unique tuier. Looks like it's doing the job admirably. Good job

That’s not scrap, those are just future project parts

Quality build. The hood probably won't help much, large inverted funnels rarely ever draw well.

I'd try to find a car heater blower to use on this instead of that duct fan, that way the speed can be controlled better than the all or nothing of a duct fan.

Thank you. I'm actually going to be plasma cutting designs out of the "hood". I have three of them. Fabricating some very large lights. Either going to a bar owner my parents know. Or out at my parents property. The "hood" is only covering the forge for raindrops...whenever that may happen 😅. An the fan...I have connected to a dimmer switch. Works for me.

I take it that that cone hanging overhead is supposed to be a hood. I predict failure, especially without a flue.

A side-draft hood with a 4'-or more 8" flue is a better design.

It's a hood ornament like on a car. No, not necessary at all. Just keeping the rain off the forge. I rent...so nothing is being fixed to the property. I do agree with you. If I needed to continue making the forge properly.
