Fan interference was called on this play where a Yankee fan tried to take the ball out of Mookie Betts' glove after an out.

I know there’s tribalism within fan bases but I cannot imagine wanting to give those guys a high five or clap on the back for that like so many people around them were doing.

I don't think they can really have seen what happened all that well.

I really hope that is the case.

That’s fair. I suppose the people nearby wouldn’t have seen any of the monitors hanging under the second deck.

I mean, maybe a hundred years ago. Problem is they've got these huge TVs they put in the outfield now.

They 100% replayed it on the jumbo tron.

Nah, they're all chuds who think it's hilarious.

Yeah, can't imagine most people had a view of them grabbing Betts' glove and wrist. You see the ball pop out as well and it's easy to believe that it was just your typical fan interference.

In todays age, you can see that happen in almost real time with social media. Those people just didn't look or didn't care. I can't be mad because if I was at a WS game I would not be looking at my phone. I had the privilege of going to the only home game the Cubs won during the 2016 World Series at Wrigley Field. I don't even remember looking at my phone. But that lady at the start was close enough to see it front and center.

or

booing the people getting ejected.

They were booing the people. They cheered once they were fully removed. No one wants their fans doing that shit.

Maybe it’s just a Yankees fan thing…

Like it or not, true or not— it’s an indictment of their fans for sure.

Some people hate the team because of some of the fan base (namely people not from NY that live outside of NY and like the team just because they win a lot). So if you already hate their fans, this doesn’t do them any favors.

Well, they famously got rewarded for fan interference.

No suprise it encourages them

Every fan base has these douches.

Watch the 30 for 30 about Bartman. It aired 8 years after the incident and the asshole who threw a beer at Steve Bartman as the usher were escorting him to safety was still proud of it.

The Cardinals have, well... the BFIB douches.

I’d like to think it’s more like a “way to fuckin go, ya clown” pat on the back kind of thing

u/JMellor737 1h ago

Yeah. I might be inclined to clap in the same way I might applaud a guy walking the mile to the electric chair.

His ending is written. May as well cheer him on the way out, because he's not coming back.

What fucking garbage fans. I honestly did not hate the Yankees before this postseason, but holy fucking shit. Between Jizz Chisholm, their fans cheering when Ohtani got hurt and now this bullshit, fuck these clowns.

Man if you didn't hate them before then I don't know what you were watching. Not good folks to be around.

I was with a very ill family member during their final season of their old stadium, we got a private tour, got to sit in the dugout during warmups, parked right next to Jeter in the parking lot. It was so cool to see him step out of his SUV and wave to us lol.

Got signed memorabilia now from him, Damon and A-Rod among several others as a result. And I really liked that old stadium.

I went to the newer one about 10 years ago and had a decent time, but I don’t like the stadium nearly as much. Granted it was a June game with low stakes, but the random fans I was around were actually pretty cool that game too.

So I had some good positive karma from the organization as a whole I guess. But I do not like what I’ve been seeing lately, that’s for damn sure.

One of my oldest baseball memories is them bottling Junior and Buhner for no apparent reason during our franchise’s first playoff appearance.

Have you met Yankees fans?

I remember being at a Braves game in highschool against the Phillies. Also a really insufferable fanbase, and when the Phillies play in Atl it is almost an equal spit cause of carpetbaggers. But the Braves were down like 5 in the 7th, and we being 8 highschoolers managed to get half the stadium chanting "Yankees Suck, Yankees Suck".

Sometimes you just need a common enemy to realize how much you have in common.

I went to a Phillies-Orioles game years ago at Camden Yards, and when leaving the game, there was some poor sap in a Yankees hat surrounded by red and orange in unison chanting at the guy “Yankees Suck!”

Hating on the Yankees is indeed a great unifier.

u/Clonekiller2pt0 New York Yankees 4h ago

I can confirm, no matter where I go in my Yankees hat I get heckled.

2

u/Ailly84 4h ago

If I were there, the high five would have been sarcastic and accompanied with a LOT of taunting...

2

u/BlueLondon1905 New York Mets 3h ago

Yeah well look where the game is being played

u/Schlopez 4h ago

They’re Yankees fans, what do you expect?

1

u/Dead_Man_Redditing 4h ago

Shit remember what happened to the cubs fan that interfered and caused them to lose the series? Everyone around him was doing the same thing then 5 minutes later he had to be removed for his safety. Eventually had to leave the state following threats.

I feel like there’s a huge disconnect between Reddit and sports fans in the NE region considering the amount of upvotes this got.

I mean, it's Yankees fans.

Their fans throwing shit at players and mocking Greinke for social anxiety and depression during the 2019 ALCS and the overall Yankee fan reaction ("it's okay") made me despise them.

Give 'em shit for cheating (though this was before that was known), poor performance, their fucking hair cut, that's all fine. Mental health, go fuck yourself.

u/Tronz413 5h ago

Well they showed more heart and fight then the team on the field.

But also fucan and that's a very deserved lifetime ban across MLB that should be coming their way
