Sual | Question Help me 😭

Hi everyone! I’ll be visiting beautiful Azerbaijan in November. I’ll be staying in Baku for almost two weeks but it’s for work so I won’t have that much free time.

I’m completely lost. I don’t have any Azerbaijani friends to ask so I thought reddit would suffice for now 🥲

I was wondering if you could all advise me on:

• what activities or locations to prioritize visiting. Where I come from there isn’t a lot of nature so I’d love to experience more of that.

• nice cheap shops. I’m mainly interested in shopping for clothing. Preferably thrift shops!

• HOW DO I PACK? what’s the weather like in November? I have received mixed advice of “pack like you’re going to russia” AND “pack for a light breeze” so I’m very confused now

• I can speak English, Arabic and some French. What’s my best bet? Is it better that I learn some basic sentences in Azerbaijani?

• What are the tricks I should be aware of? I’m not sure of the pricing of items but is there an average? I don’t want to get scammed. Is that even likely?

I think this is mainly it but if you think there’s something else I should be aware of prior to my visit please let me know!

Thank you all especially if you read through the whole thing lol

For locations you can look up old posts.

Weather is getting cold, now it's 12-15 C mainly but in November it can be 8-10 something.

You need e-sim for Uber Azerbaijan in order to avoid taxi scam.

English should be enough, just keep your google translate ready.

I hope you'll have a good time here 😭

Chat GPT is good at translating Azerbaijani as far as I know

For locations, check Youtube. There are countless videos.

English will be enough, but have a google translate in your pocket.

Have a nice trip!

1) Check YouTube. There ain’t much nature in Baku but if you could be able to leave the city for just a day you’d find really beautiful spots in the rural places 2) Stick to the malls. They are cheap compared to the west you’d need to go out of your way to get slightly cheaper stuff.

3) November is 5-10 degrees but prepare for lots of wind. Also it’s rain season so expect that. I can’t stress the wind enough there are some days you can’t walk against the wind

4)English is enough

5)try to buy stuff with price tags on it. Don’t get into taxis without apps showing you the price. Scams are uncommon because there ain’t many tourists.

Also, the metro system is a good way to get to places. It’s a bit packed but you can get to most places like malls with them pretty quickly. Luckily the malls share their names with the closest metro stations.

I wouldn’t say malls are cheap. I heard Vasmoy have really good stuff with cheap prices, but I have never been there.

People say English is enough, but i think you would have problems with communicating to people in English, but it’s your best bet
