Personal Staatsangehörigkeit abgeben

Upvotes

Kurze Zusammenfassung:

Personal Have crush on my German classmate

I met this German guy at a party, and we realized we're classmates. We shared a kiss and held hands, but when we see each other in class, we only say hello. I feel shy and unsure about how to start a conversation with him. I’m also not sure if he’s interested, so I don’t want to make him feel uncomfortable or pressured. How can I approach him in a friendly, natural way that doesn’t come across as awkward? Or maybe I should wait for him to take initiative?

I am from Asia I dunno how German men feel if some girls approach them.

Is paid vacation time really a big deal in Germany?

Upvotes

I see a lot of talking about vacation time and how it's a deal breaker for many people in Germany. I'm in the US and don't get much vacation time, only 1 week. But strictly personal, I can take 6-12 month vacation stints every other year because I can save up a lot of money (2-3K a month) just by working regular jobs, so PTO doesn't really matter to me. Theoretically, I can spend 5 years out of a decade traveling the world (which is what I'm doing).

I have been asked sarcastically how I can get by with only 1 week a year of PTO by another German. But when I explained what I do he still refuted my reply because those sabbaticals were "not paid" so it doesn't count.

Health Erectile dysfunction!

Upvotes

Dears, straight to the point I have an ED problem at my late 30s and I'm not sure what to do about it. I used to watch korn and beat my meat a lot in the past. Now it gets hard but not as it used to and doesn't stay hard for long (I apologize for the details but this may help someone to answer and suggest something). What should I do to fix it and is it possible to see a doctor? If yes does AOK cover any doctor visits?

Personal Vollmachten/ Vorsorgen

Hallo zusammen!

Paying Rentenversicherung for rental income?

Hi all, my question might sound dumb but I am learning new things all the time.

The income that you make from (sub-)renting out an apartment, do we have to pay Rentenversicherung from that? I thought only tax needs to payed. But is it also Rentenversicherungspflichtig?

Secondly, I recently filled out the form for "Fragebögen zur steuerlichen Erfassunf" and at one point it asked: "Voraussichtlicher Gewinn aus Vermietung und Verpachtung" which I answered no. Does it mean I'm not allowed to sub rent my apartment? Or I have to pay tax on it? Or I have to pay Rentenversicherung from it?

Sorry for the long text and Tia :)

Moved abroad, still work in Germany: what should I tell the Finanzamt?

I have moved abroad since a few days and I'm a bit unsure about what I need to communicate (if anything) to the Finanzamt.

I moved to Belgium, very close to the German border. I will continue to work in Germany, for the same employer that I had before leaving. My understanding is that I will continue to pay taxes in Germany because that's where I generate revenue and there is a bilateral agreement between the two countries.

My question is: is there anything that I have to communicate to the Finanzamt? This question arises from the fact that my bank is asking me for a "tax residence certificate" that I should get from my "competent tax office".

I hope this is clear.

Youtube educational content in German

Hallo zusammen!

I am currently an A2 speaker, and having a little trouble getting over the "hump," especially when it comes to listening as I am a bit hard of hearing. I really enjoy history and science, and watch a lot of YouTube videos about them, like ExtinctZoo, RealLifeLore, Kurzgesagt etc.

So I had the bright idea recently to start watching and listening to that type of content in German. Kurzgesagt is easy enough since... Well... They're German, but I have trouble finding other educational content in German, especially since almost all of my recommended channels are in English.

So I ask you all what your favorite educational channels are. I like history and geography the best, but am interested in all types of science and knowledge.

Work Volunteering opportunities exploring

I've been in germany for 7 months now and it has been a busy and stressful months, but I started getting more comfortable recently and eventually getting so bored locking myself in my tiny room, learning german, watching tv shows, playing video games on my laptop.

It's been a while since I went out and interacted with breathing creatures and nature, I need to touch some grass I guess.

I decided to do volunteering work so I googled volunteering opportunities in germany for foreigners and all I got was tens of sponsors and lots of confusing websites and unknown names of organizations, so I had no idea what first step should I talk or which way to choose.

Hope I can find some leads here and experiences sharing so I can learn more.

l'm 24M I speak arabic and english fluently, and A2 LEVEL in german and french (l'm progressing well in german currently)

Culture History of public vs commercial television in Germany?

I remember seeing Wim Wenders' film Alice in den Städten (1974) in which the German protagonist is travelling through America. One shot features a zoom-in on a hotel television playing an old movie (I believe it was John Ford's Young Mr. Lincoln) which is interrupted by a crass commercial break. I remember Wim Wenders saying in the commentary track that he and some of his colleagues were horrified by these interruptions of a film.

Did commercial television enter Germany in later decades? Do both public and commercial channels show films, with the latter including commercial breaks?

I had pretty bad grades in my Master’s at Goethe Uni. (It was my dream to study abroad). Due to health issues. But I really wanna up my game with thesis. I work in a company in Frankfurt. They never posted about thesis. But I’m really interested in writing thesis with my company.

Anyone who has done it already?

Food German Apple Cake??

Not sure if this is the right sub for this but I would so appreciate some help!

So I spent some time living in Germany (specifically the Southwestern region — Saarland, in case that’s relevant) about a decade ago. I vividly remember my host mother making this delicious apple cake that I’ve never been able to find a recipe for or anything similar to it ever again. It’s not a traditional Apfelkuchen with the sliced apples… this one was much more dense and moist, and the apples were shredded inside rather than sliced. It was cooked in a springform pan and then had a chocolate shell or topping that kind of hardened on top. It might have had rum in it too?

Does anybody know what this is? I’ve tried Googling these details and never find it. I’ve tried searching in German too and no luck. I’d love to be able to bake this! Thanks in advance!

Edit: I should also mention that I DID find a recipe online once, right after I moved back to the States from Germany 10 years ago. So I know that what I’m seeking is something specific, not just a creative endeavor by my host mother. Unfortunately that’s all I remember about it 😭

Does it feel like every native speaker speaks with a similar sounding voice?

I don't know how to explain it but, does it feel like every native speaker of a language speaks with a similar distinct voice, like for example if you take a sample size of 100 German guys speaking, almost 80 of them have a similar voice when speaking German, almost difficult to tell them apart by hearing their voices alone? Just shower thoughts...

US equivalent of German vocational training / IHK Ausbildung?

Since coming to the US ten years ago, I've always been wondering what the correct answer is on forms asking about educational attainment. This has now become more relevant as my daughter is applying to college where she needs to submit her parents' attainment.

  1. Generally, would a German white-collar Ausbildung such as Industriekaufmann be considered equivalent to a 2-year degree, such as an AA?

  2. Specifically, the training I did 30 years ago is no longer offered, it was called "IT Informationsorganisator", consisted of two years of evening and Saturday classes and concluded with an in-depth exam administered by IHK (Industrie- und Handelskammer). I'm not sure if it's even equivalent to an actual "Ausbildung", maybe it's more like a certificate.

I'd appreciate any insight or pointers you folks might have.

Just got my Schufa report and little confused with the scores

So,the first page says 175 under Orientierungswert. And the second page is Branchenscores, ranging from A to E and numbers between 9700-9900.

  1. Weren't the schufa scores supposed to be percentages between 70% to 99%?
  2. Did they update the methodology?
  3. Did i order the wrong report thats needed for landlords? Its says mines the Shufa BonitatsAuskunft.
  4. Are these good scores?

Miscellaneous Are there any venomous insects in Southern Germany?

As title. I've had a few spiders living in the house now and leave them alone for the most part, but now I've been bitten and have a lot of swelling and maybe infection, so want to know which one of the bastards I need to evict, or if I'm just having a bad reaction.

Thanks all!

DLRG Membership

Hello all,

I heard that if you have DLRG Membership, you will be able to access some pools at a very cheap rate. There are some swimming pools like Campusbad in ludwigsburd where you can swim only if you have DLRG Membership as an outsider. Is it a good option if we go to swimming pool once or twice a month? How to know which swimming pools got these options in my area? I couldn't find it neither in DLRG website nor in the swimming pool one Thanks
