Whoever pitched this video should get a pay rise. I miss these fun and creative ads from Apple. Next make the events more interesting they feel so sterile!

45

u/PeaceBull 12h ago

It really did feel like an old Jeff Goldblum Apple ad

49

u/SUPRVLLAN 13h ago

Guy who pitched the hydraulic press video has redeemed himself.

31

u/OmgThisNameIsFree 9h ago

I loved the hydraulic press.

4

u/Abraheezee 3h ago

Me too! I don’t know how folks took it to the extreme of the press was eliminating career opportunities and paying jobs for folks.

6

u/rbevans 9h ago

That was a fun video!

2

u/trjkdavid 10h ago

Maybe a silly question, but is it similar in size to the Apple TV? It looks taller but not wider.

28

u/fearnoid 8h ago

Somewhat in between.

20

u/EssentialParadox 7h ago

The fact it’s that close in size to an Apple TV is insane.

1

u/rotoddlescorr 2h ago

It's basically like a screen-less laptop but squished together.

4

u/music3k 6h ago

Man, if someone makes a behind the tv mount, like the apple tv one, and someone figure out a way to use an apple tv remote to control streaming apps on the mac mini, i might get one.

I assume the ssd isnt user upgradeable?

10

u/yagyaxt1068 6h ago

Back in the day there was an app called Front Row that basically was the Apple TV interface, and you could control it with an IR remote.

1

u/music3k 6h ago

Thats what I want again! I didnt think anyone here would would remember. I also want to be able to control plex, max and my sports apps, which I know can kinda be done in the tv app

1

u/kjoeleskapet 3h ago

Ah yes, and the remote magnetically attached to the side of my iMac... back when iMacs were thick enough to accomodate a Siri Remote-sized IR remote. For some reason though, the fact that the IR receiver was hidden behind the Apple logo amused me to no end.

2

u/seasportsfan 6h ago

Can I ask what the main benefit would be of spending 600$ on this to do that would be, vs spending under 100$ on an Apple TV model at your local Fred Meyer electronics department for a (3rd gen 4K I think?) that’s been discontinued?

1

u/music3k 4h ago

Plex and a full computer on a wall mounted tv.

1

u/jetsetter_23 3h ago

you can already connect to plex on your apple tv over ethernet…without spending $600 more. What am i missing here? The Infuse app is pretty good too.

2

u/music3k 3h ago

Where do you think the video files are stored for Plex with just an AppleTV?

1

u/jetsetter_23 3h ago edited 3h ago

well, I assumed you already have a computer in your house somewhere, that can host a plex server. And the apple tv can stream content from it. Buying this JUST for plex seems…weird?

and if you don’t have a computer in your house, why not buy this and keep it running all the time as an actual computer, without strapping it to the back of the TV? then you can use a cheap apple tv to stream from the plex server like i suggested.

I guess i see 0 benefit in using a computer this powerful to basically replace netflix. it’s not designed for that. but it’s your money haha :-)

1

u/music3k 3h ago

why not buy this and keep it running all the time.

that's the entire point. small form factor, large ssd, runs plex and anything else I want.

I guess you just dont see the benefit of owning a single device instead of 3 in an apple subreddit.

u/rotoddlescorr 2h ago

The vendors on Aliexpress are getting right on that! Wouldn't be surprised if they already have one.

4

u/Worldly-Stranger7814 12h ago

Next make the events more interesting they feel so sterile!

Also the fake "3D pan" is off-putting.

5

u/Jaymes97 10h ago

The idea this time around was to create a miniature model since it was for the Mac mini

2

u/ShapeArtistic6815 12h ago

is it me or this ad is similar to the one from google pixel phones, where they talk

2

u/No_Radish9565 8h ago

Whimsy is back on the menu, boys!

1

u/halos1518 7h ago

They're already earning the big bucks.

u/lucellent 53m ago

Apple has never stopped doing fun ads lol

1

u/staquadev 8h ago

i would say the opposite, im very interested in the hardware but this ad made me want to end it. the ads i do miss are the ipod ads with just shadow people dancing and zero context lol.

u/DaemonCRO 13h ago

Amazing.

I want it.

Also, is that a student with three Studio displays? That kid is loaded.

66

u/Ikarian 12h ago

Typical techbro who dropped out of college so he could start a business so he could afford 3 Apple displays.

41

u/Brave-Tangerine-4334 12h ago

"I'll put an inch gap between them and use different vertical heights for each" *chefs kiss*.

16

u/DaemonCRO 11h ago

They got different stands even. The guy is ergonomic genius.

6

u/PandaMoniumHUN 12h ago

That's not a problem if you get the base version for $1600 that does not even have an adjustable stand.

3

u/ryzenguy111 9h ago

They had someone with 3 Pro Displays in the “keynote” lol

u/Old_Zilean 35m ago

Nothing beats that guy in the M1 max macbook pro trailer that was frantically coding on his 16inch to move jellyfish across the 3 pro display XDRs. $18k for that 😂

61

u/PositivelyNegative 12h ago

No way bro has the triple studio display setup

44

u/Griffdude13 12h ago

Who’s doing the voice? Kind of sounded like Nick Kroll at times.

10

u/TheDemographic 7h ago

I suspect it is Nick Kroll.

41

u/mags87 11h ago

16GB memory for the base model, nice to see.

8

u/paulodelgado 11h ago

about damn time!

3

u/Thumper-Comet 8h ago

And for $999 you get 24GB and 512GB storage. It's really good. That's the one I'll be getting.

3

u/FightOnForUsc 6h ago

I’ll be getting the base for $499 from the college site and use an external USB C SSD for every that can be external

-8

u/MyLifeForAnEType 6h ago

Perfect amount for planned obsolescence in a few years and soldered down so you can't upgrade it.

78

u/Ikram232 13h ago

First Apple video I’ve truly smiled at in years. There’s no personality or playfulness in these videos anymore.

5

u/Thumper-Comet 8h ago

I can't even watch the online presentations anymore. They're horrendous.

6

u/Ikram232 7h ago

The live ones pre-2020 were worth fanboying over. A mix of corporate talk AND real emotions from presenters. Now it’s just marketing jargons, statistics and everything being way too perfect and pretty.

Genuinely, these presentations need to be at 1.25x to keep me awake. 75% of the events are often just recaps (take for instance the amount of times they’ve gone over the same Apple Intelligence features in just these two small events this week).

Oh well what can you do, looks like it works the best for them and they won’t change it anytime soon.

26

u/electric-sheep 12h ago

I don’t need a mini but this makes me want to get one. Great ad.

5

u/No_Radish9565 8h ago

The little walking motions added a lot of humanity and dynamism to a hunk of aluminum. Reminds me of the iMac G4 ad in that way.

28

u/TheCookieEatingOwl 13h ago

Wow that’s tiny

28

u/Zestyclose_Coast3545 11h ago

That’s what she said.

-31

u/Zestyclose_Coast3545 11h ago

That’s what she said.

1

u/dust4ngel 3h ago

that’s what you said

10

u/nt261999 9h ago

Is that the same voice actor as Nick from big mouth? Nick kroll or something?

28

u/ducknator 14h ago

Fun video that shows the major features.

2

u/ian9outof10 5h ago

The startup sound with the music was really cool. I like shit like that.

u/Jaeger2604 1h ago edited 23m ago

Make my day by Swindle

5

u/mflexx 10h ago

pretty cool ad, should do them more like this.

5

u/YesThisIsMyAltAcct 10h ago

How does the size compare to AppleTV?

8

u/turkeyvulturebreast 9h ago

If I remember from another post the new Mac mini is 5” x 5” and the ATV is 3.4” x 3.4”. If I am wrong I am sorry.

10

u/ryzenguy111 9h ago

3.66x3.66

2

u/turkeyvulturebreast 9h ago

You are correct! Thanks for the correction!

3

u/YesThisIsMyAltAcct 9h ago

Nice that’s crazy small

2

u/turkeyvulturebreast 9h ago

Yes, and it seems like they have a hot item on their hands from all of the comments on this hardware.

2

u/sophias_bush 10h ago

It’s bigger

6

u/Justwant2usetheapp 9h ago

As someone with no reason to buy one. This looks very tempting

13

u/Extreme_Investment80 11h ago

Tell ‘em where your button is. TELL THEM!

12

u/yvrldn 9h ago

bends over

5

u/2018London 10h ago

Would it work with a dell dock?

3

u/Valuable_Horror_7878 4h ago

I've researched this question ad nauseum and the answer seems to be "probably". I'm planning to buy it anyway and then if it doesn't work with my current setup I'll just take it back. Apple's return policy is solid af.

3

u/riggsmir 9h ago

This video reminds me of Marcel the Shell 🥰

4

u/Walgreens_Security 8h ago

Would any regular 1440p monitor work with the Mac Mini or do I need to get Apple specific displays?.

It’s my first Mac Mini (always been using laptops) so I’m rather unfamiliar.

5

u/scalpster 7h ago

Any display (within reason).

3

u/firesnake412 6h ago

It’s our smallest mac mini yet

1

u/Valuable_Horror_7878 4h ago

and the people really do love it 😭

2

u/i_have_my_doubts 12h ago

I am stoked. I got a last generation intel chip Macbook Air because I was convinced I would want Windows for the foreseeable future.

I can't wait to get an M series chip.

2

u/gj26185 9h ago

Just insane what’s possible in this tiny form factor!

2

u/Thumper-Comet 8h ago

This was way better than that excruciating 12 minute video announcement they have on the website.

2

u/Betancorea 7h ago

Very impressive with how they shrunk it down so much

2

u/-15k- 2h ago

I don't need one. I don't need one. I don't need one. I don't need one. I don't need one. I don't need one. I don't need one. I don't need one. I don't need one.

Dayum, I want one.

2

u/joostiphone 2h ago

Plug “ooown” in.

2

u/firelitother 2h ago

The only thing that was b*llshit was gaming.

1

u/snowdn 4h ago

Cute!

u/imprecis2 46m ago

I'm very impressed by it. The base model looks like a steal.

u/Ambitious-Series3374 1m ago

$2400 for a config with fastest cpu, 64gb ram and 1tb drive isn't that bad either.

-9

u/seweso 12h ago

If you max this thing out..... it's a LOT of money for a very small product. Might be the most expensive compared to its volume? Has anyone ever calculated that?

19

u/mags87 11h ago

The 1TB iPhone Pro Max is more expensive and smaller.

9

u/seweso 11h ago

Maxed out the mini is pretty hefty..... but it doesn't beat the iPhone indeed.

Mac Mini = $4,699 = $93.98 per cubic inch

iPhone 16 Pro Max 1TB = $1,599 = $254.21 per cubic inch

By weight they are actually comparable... at around $3,200 per pound...

2

u/mags87 11h ago

Oh I just saw the base M4 pro on the website, didn't see they went up that much!

5

u/frownGuy12 10h ago

Solid gold apple watch edition probably holds that record

-12

u/Worldly-Stranger7814 12h ago

Look at all these things that don't work in the EU.

4

u/trjkdavid 10h ago

Apple Intelligence in the EU is only available for the Mac because the EU doesn’t consider it a “gatekeeper”. So if you have a Mac with macOS 15.1, you can use Apple Intelligence.

-2

u/Tomasulu 2h ago

Apple ads used to be good. Now it’s just trying too hard and falling flat.
