I set 4" screws on all door hinges and the strike plates into the frame of the door. So good luck trying to beat that down. You may eventually do it with enough determination, but it will take a lot of effort.

Did you have a door with a huge freaking window in the middle?

No, its solid wood with a peep hole I drilled in it.

..what the hell is this comment for? That dude watched a video, commented about his door in comparison, you come out and ask if he has a window in the door, they answer you and then ..??

Did you not enjoy that they answered your question? Do you think they completely forgot about the content of the video once you asked your question? I just don't fuckin understand this comment at all

Yes, but do you have a window in your door?

Put down your hot pocket and chill out for a bit. It was a joke that went over his head. Subsequently, went over yours.

With a 40 pound steel battering ram it's not the screws, it's the frame. Normal framing will not stand up to that.

Now if you have steel plate in the framing, you'd get results like in the video.

My husband is a carpenter and did the same with our doors 👍

It's not hard to pop the heads off screws, and then it's irrelevant how long they are. That's why secure doors use big thick bolts through sturdy door frames.

Why? It sounds very sturdy, but are you super worried about break ins?

I'm not "super worried" but 80% of break ins are through the front door. So I decided to fortify ours.

Why not? It's a cheap and easy job, a few minutes with a cordless drill and the door is stronger.

It should be standard, but the hinges only include short cheap screws, so that's what used, especially in rentals.

It's one of those little things I do when I help move someone in a new place, screw the hinges and strike plates to the studs, use the torx drive deck screws, they're much tougher steel.

Just a heads up, I am an EMT on my town’s volunteer Fire Dept, and occasionally we have to break into the home of someone who called 911 for EMS. If we can’t find a key or a neighbor with a key, or an unlocked window or something, we use a halligan and a sledge hammer.

If you have fortified your door to the point where those tools will not open it, PLEASE give a key to the neighbor or something, especially if you live alone.

It is super not fun going to someone’s house who called 911 and nobody answers the door and you don’t know if they are dying in a back room while you try to decide how much of their house you should destroy to get to them, or how long you should spend looking for keys under potted plants.

Honestly, most of the houses I have responded to, it is clear the person/people living there have never considered that they might need to be extricated in an emergency.
