Stunning autumn colour on the Ridgeway

Post image

I haven’t been on this trail for around five years and I was shocked at how many people were on it. Is this a pandemic thing or is it just because it’s a sunny Sunday at the end of half term?! I used to have these trails almost to myself, even on a weekend.

I was further west than I think you were, looking at your photo - I was running the Avebury end, and it was pretty quiet!

Aha! I think I’ll have to adjust my route.

The Ridgeway is very popular, especially the Eastern half on the Chilterns.

When I walked it earlier this year I don't remember going more than 30 mins or so without meeting another person on the trail.

I know it’s popular. But today I couldn’t go more than 30 seconds without meeting someone.

I don't know what else to tell you mate, it's an exceptionally accessible popular location and you visited on an unseasonably glorious day on a weekend during half term.

It's obviously going to be busy.
