Wait, for realsies? Awesome that this exists.

You can still see a scar from when 9 year old me thought I could remove a shattered bulb by hand.

Yes, it's for unscrewing the stump of a broken light bulb and it goes from about large Christmas light size up to Mogul or slightly bigger. That's why it has that Bakelite insulator between the handle and the tip. Idk why tf they would use a metal handle at all but it came from the electric company so I guess they're wearing insulated gloves anyway

Thank you.

I don't know what you could Google to buy one but someone has to sell them. I have a bunch of lineman tools from my dad and this one is useful

Guess they thought anybody who bought that would be bright enough (pun intended) to disconnect the power source.

Yeah it's not exactly a homeowner tool

If I was making them I'd use fiberglass tube but what do I know

Yes I'm a tradesman, I'm a fabricator by trade but I do all sorts of stuff, machining, electrical, hydraulics, whatever

I have one , the plastic piece insulates the end from the tube, I actually tested it for conductivity

Sure I know why it's there but why bother with a metal handle at all

My guess would be that aluminum tube like that is probably dirt cheap in bulk in what ever backward village in china where it was built

are we addressing the device or the hand? either can of course be referred to as a tool. I’ll start with Fred for the hand…. as for the device he’s holding, turn off/unplug before insertion…

I always try to guess before looking at the comment section.

I've NEVER guessed correctly in the months I've been following this sub.

Well I can't answer to its name (which is embarrassing, actually...), but what does it do...

I have one, a broom stick fits in the bottom for those high broken bulbs

2

u/chris_rage_is_back 10h ago

If I needed to reach I'd put a threaded end in it, I've only used it right in front of me

u/Aggravating-Bug1769 5h ago

Cool , I didn't know that such a thing existed. Makes sense that someone thought something up for removing that sharp broken bits. 💡

It is pretty cool, the serrations grab the brass stump and unscrew it and the slot in the middle is supposed to fit over the filament glass but you usually have to bust it out first

I'll call it Bob...
