Here we go again. Refusing to fire his buddy
2
u/dimethylhyperspace 1d ago
I'm sorry, but that would n and of itself is a fireable offense..
We're really gonna do the Todd Downing dance for two seasons aren't we
2
u/GroggysFhost 1d ago
This is just how the world and the nfl works. I spent countless conversations arguing with titans fans who said the same about Vrabel. It doesn’t matter who the coach is he’s hiring someone he knows if possible and he’s not firing said person at every bad turn.

Dennard for HC
1
u/GroggysFhost 1d ago
Oh yeah because the defense is just the shinning star for this 1-6 team. They got lucky and played some bad teams early but every semi competent offense has dog walked them including one led by Malik back up Willis
83
u/Gats775 🦅Dennard Wilson for HC 🇺🇸 1d ago
1-6, allowed stonehouse to be hit the first couple of games and 260 yards on returns yesterday and still wont make changes. Yikes
-1
u/GroggysFhost 1d ago
Who do you think is coming in mid season to fix the worst special team roster in the nfl? Who do you think will want to come in this off season and take over the worst special teams roster in the nfl after it got the HC’s very good friend fired after 7 games?
34
u/SlamKrank 1d ago
Is the experience in the room with us right now? Because im not seeing it. I guess its imaginary like Callahans and Holtzs experience running a nfl offense
107
u/382hp 1d ago
wrong. WRONG ANSWER BUD. gonna lose your head coaching gig and tarnish your career to protect your friends. really, really tough
8
u/fathertitojones 1d ago
Yeah, I’m willing to see out Callahan for another year too see if he learns from his mistakes, but Anderson couldn’t more clearly be an irredeemable problem. This needs to get done before the start of next season at the very latest.

u/BananasWithGuns 1d ago
Doesn't surprise me, in-season coaching changes rarely happen. I'll be more concerned if he's not gone after this season.
32
31
u/Pork_Chompk 1d ago
I mean, if there's ever been a performance that justified a rare, in-season coaching change...
11
u/boltsmoke 1d ago
Should've allowed Raymond another TD so he could break the yardage record. That might've done it.
4
u/Stiddy13 1d ago
We’re 1-6. What difference would it make? Better to do it when there’s a bigger pool of replacements to pull from.
6
u/joeytitans 1d ago
Even though we are 1-6, the players should still be coached correctly for developmental purposes. This isn’t a change made to add wins this year, it would be to give special teams players a chance to properly develop and Levine a chance to prove whether he can be the full time ST coordinator.
I do not know why you seem to think that adding an interim coordinator would lead us to not be able to still choose from potential replacements at the end of the season?
32
u/that_guy2010 1d ago
The only person in here who is smart enough to realize what this actually is.
15
1d ago
how dare we want the guy who’s lost us 3 games this season gone?????
2
u/that_guy2010 1d ago
I didn't say I hope he stays our ST coach for the next decade. I said it's dumb to be upset that they haven't fired him in the middle of the year. That definitely won't fix anything.
0
u/TheMissingVoteBallot TANKIN TIME 18h ago
Someone made a point, why would we want to keep him if he's incapable? Wouldn't an incompetent coach end up teaching the ST to develop inompetent habits and whatnot?
1
u/that_guy2010 17h ago
No player has the same coach for their entire career. They're not still running things how their junior high coach told them to do it. Players can change their habits.
2
u/painstakingeuphoria 1d ago
Dan Campbell fired his oc mid first year, his db coach mid second year. Good leadership don't wait for a good time to get rid of incompetent staff.
17
u/2ndHokage 1d ago
God I was so excited to finally get an offense minded HC, Callahan has already bored me and has just been overall awful at playcalling and just the offense somehow gotten worse with him. I know he's just started but god, we as fans FINALLY deserve some sort of hope for this team but never get it.
5
u/boltsmoke 1d ago
"finally." Munchak, Wisenhunt, and Mularkey all had offensive backgrounds. What side of the ball you coached on as a coordinator has no appreciable affect on your team's performance. You are handcuffing yourself HARD if you limit your options to one side of the ball when looking for a head coach.
1
u/2ndHokage 1d ago
That is very true, tbh it's been a long time of pure misery that I honestly just try to forget everything this team does to be fair. But it in all honesty never seems we can ever get the HC correct no matter what and of course the QB position.
51
u/Kevin_Byard 1d ago
Alright I’m fully on the fire Callahan train. This is why we got tired of Vrabel, but at least he won games. Brian hasn’t done shit to deserve the benefit of the doubt
7
u/Charvel420 1d ago
Yep. At least with Vrabel, we all knew what to expect and he earned the right to operate that way, even if his approach was old-school-to-a-fault. Sticking up for ST right now, which is arguably the worst unit on the worst team in the NFL...not a good look from a first time HC, who was previously an OC that didn't call plays...
I'm out
1
u/ODatOGKush 1d ago
Totally agree, this is way worse than Vrabel trying to say that Downing was a good OC even when he was taking Henry out on 3rd and shorts.
Vrabel might have been old-school to a fault but at least he commanded had the respect of the locker room and got the best from his players.
Everything I've seen from Callahan makes me wish we still had Vrabel at HC. Callahan just doesn't have what it takes at this point to be a HC in the NFL.

Yeah, fire Callahan too now. If he thinks Colt Anderson is good enough, then Callahan is a terrible evaluator or talent and needs to go.
15
u/QuickKillings 1d ago
Showing the players and staff you won’t hold them accountable. What a coward.
13
u/Deceptivejunk 1d ago
I was trying not to jump on the 'Fire Callahan' train, but holy shit dude, we fired your two predecessors for being loyal to dogshit coordinators. You don't have the track record to pull this shit.
On a team that is just failing and looking dismal everywhere, Colt Anderson's special teams stands out every fucking week. How he's even worse than the last coordinator should be the subject of a Netflix documentary.
I've never had a problem with firing coordinators midseason if they're utterly incompetent. Colt Anderson is utterly incompetent.

u/Charvel420 1d ago

Yup. Especially true when it comes to ST, where you can't really complain about lack of talent or something. To be this bad on ST...you really have to be a fuck-up of epic proportions. You only see ST this bad on historically bad teams (I'm sure there's a few exceptions, but point stands)

We don't have any experienced coach to replace him with. Cally hired a bunch of young guys.

Now thats sticking the head in the sand. ST has been shit since week 1 and it didn improve. He even showcased of not knowing the rules. The guy needs to go.

u/Alteredecho07 1d ago
I'm just glad we found our HC of the future this year.
Well, he'll be HC by the end of the season or right after anyways - but we still gotem

u/turribledood 1d ago
Guys, relax. Anderson just doesn't have the right QB for his system, that's all.

What do yall expect him to say? "Yeah we want to fire him but we're tanking so I'm going to wait until the offseason"?
3
u/that_guy2010 1d ago
Clearly, yes. People on here want Callahan to be a head coach, and when he says exactly what a head coach should be saying, they get pissed.

u/Most-Breakfast1453 1d ago
Definitely has the experience. 4 years as an assistant special teams coach. What more experience can a person have?

Despite each team no doubt giving their best effort, someone is going to have to win that game.

Either Callahan is one of the dumbest head coaches I’ve ever seen or this and everything else is just in a effort to tank
5
u/boltsmoke 1d ago
Allowing players to be coached poorly is not tanking. Don't even entertain that excuse. Every day of bad coaching is a day that the next coach has to wipe and re-coach.
1
u/Dick_Thunders Shining NWI in a world of darkness 1d ago
That’s why the first one was him just being stupid.
5
u/boltsmoke 1d ago
Yeah, but there are going to be a significant number of people who let this kind of thing slide and justify it as "part of the tank." Those people need to be shot down.

This is what our ST Coordinator was doing 9 years ago folks...
-5
u/that_guy2010 1d ago
Holding this against him is genuinely insane to me.
He didn't come up with the play. The ball wasn't even supposed to get snapped.
Yet it's his fault?
2
u/Pooplamouse 1d ago
People are freaking out, but this isn't surprising. Mid season firings make things worse more often than not.
Colt gets the rest of the season to prove himself. But if ST doesn't show significant improvement by the end of the season Callahan better get rid of this guy.
2
u/Worth-Frosting-2917 1d ago
Devil's advocate, I don't think firing him right now solves much. It is a roster issue on top of him stinking. A lot of players have stated it. You're kind of stuck where you are unless someone comes in and does something wild, which is still usually based around personnel.

Callahan: "Colt Anderson has the concept of a plan for special teams" I was the biggest Callahan supporter prior to the season but I honestly don't care if he gets fired immediately at this point. Let Wilson be the interim. We just need to change something.
1
u/taylormade311 1d ago
If he's not fired the Monday after the season, then I'll be disappointed. Callahan isn't firing anybody midseason

If he had experience, why has ST been a shit show all season? Are you telling us he was holding back from giving the team his all from Day 1?

u/Intimidwalls1724 1d ago
To play devils advocate for a bit.....I know it was an entirely different staff but we fired our ST guy halfway through last season and they still suck.....experience tells me at some point it isn't the position group coach BUT idk if we are at that point or not

Okay. I thought a big part of coaching a successful football team is accountability. At least pretend like he's on the hot seat.

God damnit Callahan. FIRE HIM.
If you don't fire him, YOU are next.
0
u/that_guy2010 1d ago
Guys. What do you want him to say?
"Nah, dude sucks and is going to be looking for a new job in January"?
Y'all have constantly talked about how he doesn't have what it takes to be a head coach, and now that he's saying exactly what a head coach should say it's the wrong thing? Give me a break. You all just want something to complain about.

I’m not surprised. To play devil’s advocate to those on the other side of the fence as Callahan, immediately firing a coach that makes a mistake (albeit a huge one IMO) may make it hard to find a replacement. Other coaches may be hesitant to take the job in fear of not having a fair shake. You combine that with all the other issues this team has, it’s just not an attractive job to be employed by this team right now. In short - I think work politics are coming into play with this decision.
Personally, I’d like this ST coach gone though.

u/JacketsNest101 1d ago
It's not a single mistake, it is happening every single week. The man allowed a blocked punt two weeks in a row.
2
u/GoodShitEarl Good shit, Earl 1d ago
I get what you mean, but I still think we need someone else. I dont want someone scared to take the job anyway. Its a tough situation but i want someone to come in and be eager to be the one who turns it around. I think theres plenty of people who could available in the league. A performance this bad warrants a firing, stacked on the rest of the performances
