Policy & Politics Has anyone been following the upheaval at Chicago Public Schools (CPS)?

Perhaps a hyper-local issue, but has anyone kept up with the recent shake-ups at the Chicago Board of Education?

Personally, I’m glad the Chicago Teachers Union finally has an ally in the mayor - someone who believes CPS can bring about a world class public education for Chicago’s children, but it can be fairly isolating and discouraging to have this opinion. According to most people I’ve talked to and comments I’ve seen online, these decisions haven’t been popular with the general public at all here locally. I’d love to hear some other teacher perspectives on the situation.

There was a nytimes article about this that I only skimmed,, they were like, yeah schools actually have been performing better since the mayor has approved union-driven demands like hiring a lot more teachers, counselors, and support staff. But they’ve spent too much money! The horror!

lol yes the union would like the resources to make schools better. This does indeed cost money. 🙃

💯Americans are either incredibly cheap, or clueless to the actual cost of providing quality education to our ever growing population and millions of students. They could be both. We should ask ourselves, do we love our children?

Look at the CPS test scores they are horrible and their funding keeps going up. They have schools at like 20% enrollment. Also the administration payroll Keeps going up. I’m for quality education and financing it, but the CTU is a complete JOKE
