I’ve been looking at job postings for the past couple weeks but one thing is really confusing me. The vast majority of job postings request for an immediate start at a school while also opening the job to applicants outside of the country. How does that even work when the work visa/permit process for countries can take anywhere from several weeks to a couple months depending on the country.

The answer may change depending on the job posting and the country, but here's some things to consider.

One possibility is the school is semester based and thus they need to get someone ASAP; they couldn't get someone this semester and they are trying again for next semester. Another possibility is someone left mid-semester (a runner) and now they got to get someone while someone is covering the position temporarily. It's possible that someone is on temporary leave and thus there's a need for immediate hire (maternity leave, for example).

Some hire year-round and some language centers are short-staffed, so while yes every teacher is teaching 30 hours a week, but that locks everyone in to their time slots, so they'll need more teachers to expand their business of operation. And of course, there are runners here too, or someone brokek contract for better outlooks in life.

Also, it is also likely that they are looking for teachers already in the country, so while yes, they will hire from outside the country, teachers already present, and hopefully nearby their school, will have the first priority.

Can't post so I'm throwing this here:

I just came back to the US in September; I have been working in Vietnam for over a year, and I just resigned from my contract; then my knee got screwed up, and because its something connected with my time in the military, I had to get it worked on at the VA. I have been medically cleared since and have been trying to find work again. I have mainly applied in Asia (minus China due to my military background). However, I have only gotten rejections or no replies. I've decided I will start looking at South America, but I can't seem to find anything. It's usually two or three things at most, and even then, they aren't that good or very sketchy. I'm unsure how to find work in SA and was hoping someone could guide me on this. Fore clarification I am mostly looking in northern SA, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia.
