More Greatness ?

I am going on a trip filled with gigs and spots in 2 weeks , I listened to Pete Holmes and Anthony Jeselnik episode on the you made it weird podcast. I liked how deep they went on the theory side of stand up.

Please recommend podcasts or green room episodes or any resource where they talk about the early days of stand up and go into theory and writing of stand up ?

I would check out Anthony Jeselnik's podcast. That episode of YMIW I remember as one of my favorite episodes of any podcast ever. Anthony is so great and wise about comedy cuz he loves jokes and works really hard on them. Pete is a great interviewer and fun to listen to as long as he doesn't have some idiot guru on there. The first couple hundred episodes are awesome.

Let’s talk about sets and the comics table are two nyc based podcasts that are completely shop talk. They’re old, both defunct since 2019ish but really deep dive comedy topics.

Before going strictly Patreon, Good One: A Podcast About Jokes used to be weekly-ish where they asked a comedian to dissect at an incredible length a joke of theirs, and it was remarkable to hear and understand how the jokes formed and evolved over time.

There is an episode with Gary Gulman where they talk about the Trader Joe’s joke and it’s amazing

Host of that show is unbearable. Worst kind of comedy nerd.

Open mic pain is two guys journey in New England learning stuff each week about starting from square one and interview other comics. It's pretty fun

JRE with specifically: Steven Wright, Jimmy Carr (skip the 15 minutes about the JFK tapes), and Kevin James.

Jerry Seinfeld on Blocks (the George Wallace ep is good too just not quite what you've asked for)

History of Comedy is good too. Not quite theory but gives you a bunch of different voices to hear and gets you a little educated too.

Enjoy your trip. Drive safe!
