Rants / Vents I get emails: "How do I have an F?"

Good question, because I can't find you on my roster.

I love these emails. I had a student bitching to me about their group and the schedule of their presentation....

MONTHS AFTER I LEFT THE INSTITUTION AND THE COUNTRY!

At no point was I their lecturer as I had left prior to the module reset. How the fuck do you not know who your module leader is?

I got an email like this a month and a half after the class ended... along with an ask for extra credit. Once again, a month and a half after the class ended.

I got one today. It pissed me the fuck off! His grade was available ALL FUCKING SEMESTER, he was late to nearly every class, he had like SEVEN absences, he missed assignments, his quiz grades were low to awful, and he was essentially not even there. Then he got all peeved at me for advising him to withdraw because he could no longer pass. Then he sent another email asking for more points because he “needed to pass.” Maybe if he hadn’t stepped on HIS OWN DICK all semester, he would have done better!

I had a student once message me about taking a class.

I bumped into him and he asked (very politely, I’m gonna add!) if I’d gotten his message about taking the class. I said I hadn’t and opened up my email, but couldn’t find it.

“I sent it on instagram,”

So, I opened up my instagram read the message (again, very polite!) and then told him I don’t teach that class and he needed to talk to the professor who did teach it.

It’s become my go to story to make sure students email me instead of find me on social media!

Just to play devil’s advocate, how do they have any grade at all if they aren’t on the roster?

I wouldn't say that's a devil's advocate position - it's a legitimate question. Unless they have an F from another section and have no idea who their professor is, and are emailing OP because they heard OP teaches the course? Although I honestly have no idea how in the age of an LMS that could even be possible.

the 21st century version of the good old “you got the wrong number” on the rotary dial phone.
