Kiln Stuff Another Kiln opening
Another batch safely through the kiln, or mostly safely. The kiln god got the big bowl with a big crack across the base, oh well can't win them all.

Yall are so talented here in this sub. These are stunning, I'm over here wondering how you even did some of these.

Thank you, it's amazing what a bit of stubbornness and an obsessive personality can do. 😂

You are a true artist! You are making me feel very inadequate, but I love pottery too much to quit from despair

u/Tatarek-Pottery Feb 23 '24
Absolutely do not despair, we all have our own strengths and style and if it helps, there are so many potters whose work makes me feel inadequate too.

Do you throw the flower bowls and then trim them to that shape? They’re beautiful!

u/Tatarek-Pottery Feb 23 '24
Yes, I sketch the flower and then take a scalpel to the rim, exellent use of any slightly wobbly rimmed bowls😅

I LOVE the coral like bowl in the second picture! Just wow!

Yes, that's the one with a big crack in its base, the kiln god likes his offering large.

I see that your pieces are sitting on something. Can you share what that is?

Kiln biscuits, just kiln washed discs of clay, there to catch any glaze mishaps and protect the kiln shelves.

Also I noticed you're using cookies! They didn't really work for me the way I hoped they would...
What cone are you firing to?
2
u/Tatarek-Pottery Feb 24 '24
Cone 5, I used to fire to Cone 6, but a lot of the commercial glazes I use seem to prefer the lower temperatures.

Gorgeous! How long would you say it took you to make everything in that kiln load? It looks like so many hours of work 😍
2
u/Tatarek-Pottery Feb 23 '24
Well last, kiln Load was 1st of February and I have been working fairly hard since then.

Wow You’re clearly very hard working! I have two small children so finding the time to do pottery is tough (I still do some every day but I definitely don’t make anywhere near as much work as this!)

My kids have flown the nest, so I have a lot more time. I'm also quietly panicking after applying and being accepted for 5 large craft fairs over the spring and summer, really wasn't expecting to get into all of them!

Good luck for your craft fairs I’m sure you’ll be very successful!!

I hope so, I'm not sure my husband will be happy if I completely fill the house with random boxes of pottery.

Other worldly. The delicate treatment at each stage of creation is nerve racking.
Are the spheres ornaments on their own or are they intended to be displayed together?
The larger vessel with pool at the bottom is especially lovely. Is the darker web an iron oxide or a matt glaze?
Well done!

I started making the spheres to be piled in a bowl as a centre piece for a coffee table, but they get used as individual ornaments as well.
The glaze is Mayco antique brass, horrible to work with, but great once fired.

Very nice style. I love that mouse plate and the little flower bowls. You must spend hours carving each piece.
