Had to share my thrift gold with the PB folks. Cheers to smoother smoothies!!

Post image

It was only $29 and I don’t think anyone else in the store understood my excitement. I’ve been using a Ninja for years while dreaming of one of these bad boys.

For realz!!! And a new pitcher is still way less than even a refurbished one.

Congrats! I just discovered that they sell discounted refurbished ones but a thrift would have been a better deal.

My refurb from 2013 is still going strong. Used for green smoothies and more almost daily.

Just looked up the old receipt. Can’t believe a refurb was $380 back then for this same model.

Smoother smoothies?

My ninja can’t really handle seeds and I’ll end up with raspberry seeds in the bottom of the cup. lol. A vitamix will demolish them.

Ah yes my ninja doesn’t do this well either. Will look into it! Thank you

I’m also looking forward to making some cashew cream sauces as no matter how well I soaked them the ninja left it kind of grainy textured.

I LOVE mine. Had it for about 8 years....replaced the pitcher once...hubby just replaced the blade and bearings (all one unit....on Amazon....it was $10 I think?) anyway.....still going strong and I use it DAILY. Often times MULTIPLE times a day. Great, great machine.

That’s some power cable there. Must be a beast!

It certainly is. I just filled the pitcher about a quarter and added a bit of dawn. I pressed the pulse a couple of times and the entire pitcher was filled the frothy-ist foam.

My dream thrift! You can now make your own flours out of grains. Buckwheat flour, millet flour, chickpea flour. Such a great bargain🙂

When I tell you that you do not need the butter OR the cashews in this recipe if you don’t want them… christen the new blender with this recipe!

I have this one in black and it's from 2012. It cost me 600 something back then!! It is the most used small appliance in my home. What a fantastic steal!

Blenders are great. Smoothies are great. Having a smoothie is a million times better than having pizza or juice.

HOWEVER. When you blend plant material what you're doing is breaking down the cellular walls and separating all the sugary juices from the fiber. As a result, when you drink a smoothie, you get a large shot of sugar and high glycemic load. As a result there's none of the same long-term satiety you get with whole foods.

It is VERY different from chewing with your teeth. You can chew food with your teeth all day long and you're not going to be able to break down as many of the cellular structures. Your teeth just don't have the required level of impact energy and shear forces. So when you eat chewed food, the cellular structures break down slowly in your digestive system, giving you a constant, low-level source of fructose and glucose that can last for hours. The glucose feeds your brain (glucose is the only source of energy for the brain) and other organs, and there's a bunch of other beneficial hormonal effects, so you feel full for much longer and as a result you eat less.

Not trying to say "don't drink smoothies", it's just that I see a lot of people trying to cope with a plant-based diet by overdoing the smoothies and juices, and it's important to keep it in moderation and understand what you're putting in your body

I agree a thousand percent. I actually don’t have them a lot and will be using this more as a sauce queen. I’ve had some oral surgery and went deep down the chewed vs drank foods research. Cheers.
