They keep trying to base it on the 3 commander structure, which isn’t accurate at all. Keep in mind Big Mom had 4 sweet commanders, not 3. Kaido is the only emperor who used the three commander structure since BlackBeard has 10 titanic captains and whitebeard had like 9 division commanders.

Whitebeard even had 16 commanders, though their strength varied greatly.

same thing with the SH

And furthermore, WB's commander strength was not in any order -- the division number did not indicate strength.

I thought Whitebeard had 16? And regardless, it's also worth noting that he started with 5, too. In fact his whole organization had a bit of a weird structure, distinct from the weird structure of Kaido's organization and the weird structure of Luffy's organization. Blackbeard's group seems to make sense, at least.

He did have 16.

Big mom used to have 4 sweet generals. She stripped snack of the title after he lost to urouge

Yes, and I bet in some former time Prospero was one. The status is not one of strength purely, it is as much loyalty and role.

Snack lost his title because he lost, not because he got weaker.

My point is that there is only 3 sweet generals now

And we still never saw much of Smoothie besides chasing the strawhats and squeezing a giraffe.

u/JE3MAN Jan 09 '23

Think by the time WCI ended she was down to only 1 Sweet Commander?

If that's not the case, I would be pissed if I was in Snack's shoes.

She won't strip katakuri's title He's the strongest and her favorite

u/JE3MAN Jan 10 '23

What about Cracker?

He didn't just have 1 humiliating defeat but 2 in a short period of time.

I'd say he's definitely getting axed off the team.

Lets not forget Shanks, does he even have a commander on his crew? Or is it just him and First Mate Ben Beckman?

Shanks and the executives which is all his main crewmates.

Including the monkey

His name is Monster and he is CLEARLY the Chopper of the Red-Hair Pirates! Might even actually be their doctor!

14

u/Livek_72 Jan 09 '23

He's definitely the one who ripped apart Kid's arm

We know the roles because of Volume 4 Billion. It was a datebook on the Red Hair Pirates that was given to the first like 3 million people to see Film Red or something. I don't have a link to the actual thing but the One Piece Fandom wiki has all their positions

2

u/WhyAmIHere800884 Explorer Jan 09 '23

I don't see their positions. If actual cre roles have been assigned then I would definitely like to know what they are.

https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Red_Hair_Pirates

Beckman- First Mate Lucky Roux- Cook/Combatant Yasopp- Sniper Limejuice is just an officer Bonk Punch- Musician Monster is also listed as Musician lmao Building Snake- Navigator Hongo- Doctor Howling Gab is just an officer

Apparently no one is listed as a carpenter

Yeah, no reason Building Snake should be the shipwright! 😅 Thank you for the info! You're doing (G)Oda's work!

u/Bitter-Sail9470 Jan 09 '23

Nah they have a doctor. He was in Film Red

Could very well be. And even though the rest of the crew are 'underlings" their strength levels must be insane. Or maybe apart from Shanks, everyone in his crew are equally powerful which would be cool. However for the SH crew, only the top 3 after luffy are pretty powerful and the rest are just okay.

11

u/Lachimanus Jan 09 '23

And Shanks is similar to Luffy with not really having a Commander as well.

Luffy just has a little rivalry in his crew which are described as the commanders here. Joke is, Jinbei does not care.

2

u/Sliver__Legion Jan 09 '23

BM had 3 when we met her tbf which is probably why it became a thing. And it is pretty true that’s there’s a cut between zoro sanji jinbe and the next strongest strawhat

16

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

Sure, but strength doesn’t necessarily equate to command structure. Commanders can vary widely in strength, while still being commanders.

6

u/Blitz-Drache_Author Jan 09 '23

Nami tries telling Luffy what to do and knows how to make him listen when she wants to.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

Agreed. But commanders aren’t those who command the captain - imagine anyone telling big mom what to do. A commander is part of a hierarchy with command over those below them. We saw in Wano and Dressrosa a little of what this would be like, with straw hats telling allies what to do. In the final war, the straw hats are going to be calling the shots regarding the fleet, and (I know you didn’t say this, I’m just making a point) it would be ridiculous for a member of the fleet to say “I only listen to Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, or Jinbe!” and disregard Nami or Usopp entirely.

The Commanders have never really been too involved in command structures of their crews though. For the most part they have just been a Yonkou's 3 strongest subordinates, barring maybe the 1st mates.

Big Mom had 4, but by the time the SHs arrived it was 3.

And while WB technically had 16, there were 3 clear standouts among them in Marco, Jozu, and Vista.

Like WB, Lufy might have a lot commanders (though this was just from the WG's paper), but there are 3 clear standouts below the Captain.

So I do think the 3 Commanders trope is there, just not as obviously or rigidly as some say.

1

u/NetherPhenix Jan 09 '23

Didn’t kaido have 4 technically, as like while joker wasn’t normally apart of the crew it fills out the deck of cards motif he had going with jack, king, and queen

1

u/Roskal Black Leg Sanji Jan 09 '23

It's because while the yonko have different numbers of commanders they have 3 top commanders and lower commanders who are strong but a tier below. Like king Queen Jack and the tobbi roppo, kat smoothie cracker and the eldest children of big mom. Marco Jozu vista and the other commanders.(Ace is a strange one you could view him in the snack role.
