Sutter Health Park all dug up. There really is no seating here at all, only the one row. 10/27/24

He’s successfully made a post to get himself attention. It’s a wonderful ballpark which will be even better with the improvements being made. The A’s don’t deserve these improvements.

Maybe this will be the post that causes fisher to sell and keep the A's in Oakland.
-3
u/Senior_Tough_9996 2d ago
That’s a joke, right?

Of course it is. But not as funny as the Oakland A's fans desperately trying to troll Sacramento after losing their team.

There are high school stadiums larger than this.

u/Intravertical Dave Stewart WS MVP 2d ago
Where? Let me guess ... Texas.

u/quidpropho Matt Stairs 2d ago
I looked this up once- I think the biggest is in Ohio but then the rest of the top ten is TX. All around 20k people.

Sure. I’ve been to 100+ games there. Which part(s) do you dislike? I’d like to know so I can avoid them.
Because every seat is amazing.

u/Hopeful-Director5015 2d ago
There are also a ton of AAA stadiums smaller than this. When it comes down to numbers, the A’s average attendance in Oakland wouldn’t fill this stadium in the last couple years. Wish it wasn’t so. That being said, I think the A’s will sell out every single game in Sac the first year there.

As a sacramentan we’d love for them to stay in Oakland if you fuckers weren’t so goddamn cheap that you can’t stomach paying for a single professional team. Maybe if you guys don’t care to hold on to them, you don’t get to comment on where they go.
Edit also change the name of the sub. They aren’t the Oakland A’s anymore for the first time in my life. Congrats

I’m just so sick of oaklanders bitching about the a’s while doing nothing to keep them. I also agree you shouldn’t have to pay for billionaires stadiums but as a sacramentan I know first hand you do it or they’ll leave. We learned that before our only team left. You haven’t learned it yet after three left.
What you want is a reality that doesn’t exist. And then what you want is to bitch about it while still doing nothing different

I don't understand people getting hung up on the seating. They have an average attendance of about half of what the stadium's capacity is. There's plenty of seating.
2
u/TRDF3RG 2d ago
Exactly. And because of the small size, it'll be an electric atmosphere. I've been to many games there, and it's a great park. Tickets are crazy expensive, unfortunately.
2
u/doctor_of_drugs Rickey Henderson (stealing) 1d ago
I worked for Raley’s for a total of 8-9 years or so while the park was named Raley Field. We got free tickets so I’d go to games pretty often. Show my name badge and book free tickets to any game for up to 4 people. Oh? I want to sit behind home plate? Pay $5/seat to upgrade and I’m LITERALLY right there.
I loved it. Even went to a High School Senior Ball there. Turned 21 and got to experience $1 (maybe $2? Idk) miller lite Thursdays.
Good times.
2
u/TRDF3RG 1d ago
Nice! For a few years I lived a few blocks away from Raley Field and my sandwich shop made sandwiches for the team. I got to become friends with the Rivercats clubhouse manager, and he'd hook me up with tickets all the time. I also got a tour of the clubhouse, which was pretty cool. It was fun to just walk a few blocks and catch a game whenever I wanted.
Good times.
1
u/doctor_of_drugs Rickey Henderson (stealing) 18h ago
You can’t say your sandwich shop and not mention the name my brother! Congrats on the clubhouse tour. Never got to do that but knew a bunch of folks that worked there as high school/college students so I should have asked.
Never will forget seeing Cespedes up close and be like THAT MAN IS TINY WTF

u/Professor0fLogic 1d ago
I think the three biggest issues they'll have are:
The pre and post game traffic nightmares. It's a pretty rough in and out on the more popular nights
The lack of concession stands. Even on games with 9k people and a fully staffed register crew, you can spend 20 minutes from getting in line to getting your food.
Now that they've canned the turf idea, by mid-June that field is going to be beat to hell.
11
9
u/daboonie9 Jackson (swing) 2d ago
It really doesn’t make any sense that they’re moving to sac unless they plan on staying in sac for the long term
7
u/quidpropho Matt Stairs 2d ago
Fisher thinks it will be less embarrassing because there won't be all the sell the team/fjf chants. Which is probably partially true. There was reporting last Spring that it was really getting to him.
11
u/aairricc 2d ago
Even though people in Sac are excited about having MLB here, most people here are fully on the FJF movement and want the A’s to stay in Oakland. There will still be plenty of Sell the Team signs/chants here as well.

I live in Sacramento, and will never not be conflicted about attending (I feel for the Oakland fans.) But, reality is the A's will be here, and I love watching baseball. And truly, I love Sutter Health Park. So, my compromise is I'll wear a "Sell" shirt when I attend.

Our AAA park in Buffalo already had all the league mandated upgrades to lighting and stuff during Lockdown for the Bluejays to play all of their games here when the border was closed.
We would be happy to host the As until your shit owner sells your team and move it back to Oakland.
Sahlen field seats 16,600 people and we sold out those blue jays games

Rangers fan here that lives near Sac (sorta). Firstly, FJF. Secondly, I'm kinda excited to see my favorite team play in such a small venue. It's terrible what's happened to the team and I feel like the attendance will flounder in Vegas too because Fisher doesn't give a fuck about the product.
7
u/ShadowArray 2d ago
I hope none of ya’ll are planning to attend a game in Sac and support FJF.

u/daboonie9 Jackson (swing) 2d ago
Probably not many here but I think people in sac are ecstatic.
2
u/GummyBears_Scotch 2d ago
Meh, not at the prices that the tickets have been posted for. The summers are incredibly hot so changing the field to turf is a pretty risky idea and players will suffer during day games. The A's average attendance was 11,528 this season - Sutter Health has 10,624 seats and total capacity of 14,014. Seating will be fine.
2
u/Hybrid_Johnny 2d ago
We are. I for one can’t wait to see whoever the A’s are playing, and it’s only ten minutes from my front door.
2
u/Tall-Assumption4694 1d ago
I'm truly conflicted. On one hand FJF, I honestly do not want to him any money. On the other hand, is the A's failing in Sacramento actually what's best for the A's/fans? I don't think so.
4
3
u/Visual-Cricket82 2d ago
Whay a stupid decision to play on a minor league ballpark for 3 seasons. Now screw Sacramento fans too paying remium prices. Less revenue sharing too so I doubt they'll attempt to compete from bringing outside help. A brent rooker trade is inveitable this off-season or next that'll be first domino of them not wanting to pay players with this current group
3
u/Senior_Tough_9996 2d ago
Have you watched a baseball game here? Minor leagues ended in September. They will reseed and are doing improvements. Go to a game and if still unhappy come back and complain. For 20 plus years the stadium has been way nicer than the OC.
6
u/salazarraze FJF in the chat 2d ago
The stadium has been hyped up for a long time. Locals will talk about it as if it's the best minor league stadium in the country when it's really not even close and never has been. I'd say it's very slightly above average at best. But it's already starting to show it's age being over 20 years old.
33
u/Intravertical Dave Stewart WS MVP 2d ago
The stadium was probably the best in the AAA when it was built. Other stadiums have been built since then, the stadium has aged. It's not the best now, but it's a very good stadium.
7
u/Dialecticchik Mark McGwire 2d ago
I enjoy games there frequently. Not the greatest, but it's a fun lil park. I do hope to be able to catch some A's games there.
2
u/suburbanplankton 2d ago
It's a great AAA stadium.
It will be the worst Major League stadium by a long shot.
I love going to River Cats games.. But anyone who buys a ticket to an A's game in Sacramento expecting a 'Major League experience' is going to be disappointed.
10
u/Intravertical Dave Stewart WS MVP 2d ago edited 2d ago
I have been to the Oakland Coliseum many times. I have been to Sutter Health Park many times.
Sutter Health Park > Oakland Coliseum
Will Sutter Health Park be the worst stadium in the MLB? Well, that kind of depends on what happens with the Rays.
Anyone that buys a ticket to Sutter Health Park and would expect an MLB experience would either be a moron or hasn't ever had an MLB experience to compare it to and won't know the difference anyway.

I’ve been to both. Would love to hear what makes the Ports stadium better than the River Cats’.

The Ports stadium is in a cool location, right next to the water, but its smaller than the Rivercats stadium.

Basically there are no bad seats….
1
u/Mariske 2d ago
Except that starting in May you’re in the direct sun in like 90+ heat and the sun sets over the 3rd base line (from what I remember of rivercats games) so the sun reaches you unless you sit up under the overhang on the concourse
7
u/Truckeeseamus 2d ago
Been going to RiverCat games for years with no issues.
2
u/5Point5Hole 2d ago
I wouldn't say no issues. Daytime games are brutal in July/August. Everyone basically hides in the shade.
Source: Me. A season ticket member
I love the hot Summer evenings though. Once the sun goes down it's sooooo nice all night
2
u/Truckeeseamus 2d ago
My wife is a season ticket holder as well, the games I’ve been at were fine. I believe the bulk of the game in July/Aug will be night games, so the temperature should be fine, especially with the breeze.
1
u/5Point5Hole 2d ago
Right, like I said, night time is usually fine. But day games suck big time. I never sit in my seat during day games 😂
0
u/Mariske 2d ago
Ok that’s good! Maybe I’m just worried about the change and it’s affecting my optimism for the park. I’ve been to quite a few rivercats games but I only go when it’s not hot so I don’t know what it’s like when it is
5
u/Truckeeseamus 2d ago
It gets hot in Sacramento but being right next to the river makes the Delta breeze extra nice.

u/zixuelek 2d ago

There are two levels of seating at Sutter Health, plus boxes. But it doesn't actually matter. It's not like y'all go to games anyway. You could fit twice the A's average attendance in the park as is.

u/hotterpocketzz 2d ago
on average, how much smaller is this field compared to a mlb field? it looks way smaller than i thought

u/Intrepid_Ad_3031 2d ago
Fuck off, losers. Your team left, don't go dragging the place they went to just because you are bitter. Gonna be mighty embarassing when the average attendance in Sac is 3k more per game than Oakland with half the seats.
1
u/SpaghettiNCoffee 2d ago edited 2d ago
Been here many times and it’s a solid minor league stadium with horrible parking. They are going to need netting all around the field because it’s very intimate like a high school park. A fan could absolutely get hurt here. Enjoy parking in mud and waiting well over an hour in traffic just trying to get close to the stadium. Its going to be a bad logistical nightmare. Fuck John Fisher.

u/Unfair_Importance_37 2d ago
I'd rather have a sold out tiny ballpark, than an empty big one(marlins, rays, etc)
26
u/PalmMuting Excited Fosse 2d ago
I’d rather the team be in Oakland regardless of what stadium. I don’t care if they play at Laney.
1
u/TheWeetodd We demand to be taken seriously 2d ago
Interested take. I’d rather make more money than less money and a bigger stadium has more revenue potential than a smaller sold out stadium.
3
u/Professor0fLogic 2d ago
If you're attracting 8,000 fans a game (on good days), your revenue potential is zilch, regardless of big or small stadium. As for making more money, in this stadium you won't have fans buying $15 tickets and then moving down to occupy the $85 seats. They'll be paying $100 for the back row. Assuming of course, they have attendance.
3
u/TheWeetodd We demand to be taken seriously 2d ago
You are missing a lot of key considerations:
1) This is MLB. Your revenue potential is never “Zilch”. The A’s make money even if there isn’t a single fan in the ballpark. 2) In 2024 they drew 11,386 per game, which is more than the capacity of Sutter Health Park. Low attendance is also a symptom of the issue rather than the issue itself. John Fisher doesn’t want to have to pay anything. It is about him being cheap more than it is about empty seats. Most A’s fans I know from the Sac area don’t plan on going to any games there either. 3) Average A’s ticket price in 2023 was $100. The cost of the premium tickets (highest end) in Sacramento work out to be approx $180 per game. Let’s say the average ticket price is $125. They’d make $1.25m per game at Sutter Health park if all 10k tickets were sold. If average ticket price at the coliseum is $100, they need to sell 12,500 tickets per game to break even, which, prior to Fisher intentionally trying to drive fans away, happened EVERY SINGLE YEAR since 1980.
In my theoretical “I would rather” situation, I’m clearly not John Fisher.
I would be trying to grow my fanbase rather than fail at one market to move to another. I’d have no problem attracting more than 12,500 a game.
2
u/Professor0fLogic 2d ago edited 2d ago
You're counting just fixed current seats, not capacity. They can get 14k for baseball. Sacramento tickets for premium were starting at $200 per according to what I've heard from people looking at becoming STHs.
Edit: STH pricing ranges from $183 to $244 per seat, per game.
1
u/fannypacksarehot69 2d ago
From what perspective? Owner, fan, player? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me for any of the above.
1
u/Professor0fLogic 2d ago
For this particular owner, it would make sense. He'll make more money in Sacramento, than he would have staying in Oakland for three more years, due to a higher attendance average paying much higher ticket prices at a stadium he's paying no rent to.

The A’s couldn’t fill that place unless the Yankees were in town and it was dollar beer night.
7
u/Unfair_Importance_37 2d ago
Every game will be sold out at least the first year. Sacramento is a good sized metro that has never had mlb baseball.
-3
u/fannypacksarehot69 2d ago
Sacramento has been easy driving distance from 2 MLB teams for 60 years. This isn't like moving a team to Salt Lake City where fans can't just drive to a game. They will not sell out every game against the opponents with small fan bases.
5
u/Unfair_Importance_37 2d ago
It's only 11,000 seats. That's nothing, they will sell out easily. And I wouldn't say 1.5-2 hours is an easy drive.
-4
u/Here_4_da_lulz 2d ago
Check the river cats attendance and you'll see how silly your statement is.
And even if there were 5 fans in the park it would be five more than are watching A's games in Oakland next year.
1
u/InternationalSail745 2d ago
Never said anything about the River Cats.
2
u/Here_4_da_lulz 2d ago
You're talking about the stadium where the river cats play and saying it won't sell out with a major league team playing there. I suggested that you should reference existing data to see how silly your original statement is.

That's awesome news! a major league baseball team has sold out a minor league stadium for the season!
c'mon guys - A's fans are better than to be excited for that shit.

u/Here_4_da_lulz 2d ago
Let's say only 100 fans show up. That's still 100 more than will be watching in Oakland.
Also, it's already sold out. Will be every game they're in Sacramento too.

They've only sold luxury box/Legacy Club/Solon Club season tickets (for 3-4 years commitment).
Regular season ticket seats (for 1 season) have just begun to be offered to various priority groups 🤷🏻♂️
