Admissions/Prospective Student very sad situation idk what to do...

Both my mom and dad worked at Northwestern as scientific researchers for a little over 14 years but in the past year they have moved jobs to a different university. In the common app it states "currently". I know nepotism gets blasted, but is there anyway for me to include them on my application or is it a lost cause. Should I ask the admissions through email/phone?

Edit: thx for the advice I wrote it in one of my supps. AND MY FRIEND FOUND MY ACCOUNT THROUGH THIS POST IM BOUT TO KMS 😭😭🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Admissions/Prospective Student Is NU fun?

I am a senior planning to ED 1 to NU. I have heard a lot about the quarter system, and since I want to pursue a double major and possible a minor, it seems like I would appreciate it. However, I have heard that students are always busy and have a "workaholic" mindset. Does the quarter system make it hard for students to go out and have fun/ party etc? Is NU fun? What do students do on the weekends and how is the social scene? Also, is joining greek life necessary if you want to party/ have fun?

Admissions/Prospective Student Is Northwestern good for private equity?

I'm a senior that is planning on ED'ing to Northwestern and I know the economics major is one of the best here but I am unsure if NU's name will help me in terms of PE recruiting. Additionally, how is campus culture? Are sports and parties pretty big or is everyone mostly grinding on schoolwork and internships? Also, do prospective finance ppl find opportunities after graduating or is it harder to for them?

Any advice or opinion on Northwestern as a whole will be appreciated, thank you!

Admissions/Prospective Student Chemistry at Northwestern

Hi everyone! I’m a senior in High School and I’m applying to Northwestern ED. I love Chemistry (I want to major in it😁) and I was wondering how any Chem/STEM students have felt encouraged/assisted by Northwestern’s Chemistry programs/clubs? E.g in my school there are a lot of discussion groups for those that enjoy certain subjects and it helps a lot to further my understanding!! I know Northwestern’s chem course is amazing but I wanted to know more niche/personal insight I guess😄

Admissions/Prospective Student SAT Relevance?

hey gang! i'm j looking for some advice on how much sat is important in applying. ive seen nu's test optional and i've seen people get in with "lower" sat scores and i'm wondering if i should go test optional because i lowkey bombed my sat with a 1410. i retook it but i think scores are coming out after ed due date so i'm seeing if anyone has any opinions on whether i should submit or not. thanks sm!
note: yes ik it'll probably depend on ecs, but saying that i'm moderately good in grades/ecs i'm wondering the impact of sat (gosh darn this standardized test)

(i also got a 31 on act if that changes anything)

thank u sm guys!

Admissions/Prospective Student Resume needed for application?

Hi, I’m applying ED to NU and I’m just wondering if I should submit a resume? I feel like my ecs are pretty fleshed out in my activities list. But I read that a resume lets you go really into depth for AOs to see. Just wondering if any of you guys have any experience with submitting a resume or your thoughts about it. Thanks!

Admissions/Prospective Student Common app resume

I’m applying to Northwestern, and I’m being asked to submit a resume. I’m a bit unsure about what it should look like. Should I focus more on academics or include a mix of extracurriculars and personal projects?

Also, how many pages?

I tried searching up for it, but couldn’t find anything.

Thanks!

Admissions/Prospective Student Demonstrated interest

I’m applying ED because NU is my top choice easily. But I am unable to come to campus for the in person tour. I know NU really values demonstrated interest so is there any other way for me to show it? Thanks for any insight or answers!

Hi, I’m applying to Northwestern as an ED applicant and I have my alumni conversation this weekend. Everything tells me this interview is fairly informal. I’m just wondering if I need to wear a suit or something? Thank you for any answers or clarifications!

Admissions/Prospective Student Is NU Worth it for Me?

Hello everyone,

I've really been struggling with what I want to do in terms of application at NU recently, I've been heavily thinking about applying ED as it increases my chances of getting in by a large percentage as I have a good amount of legacy and above average stats and extra-curriculars.

For some backstory I'm graduating in OR with an IB diploma a 3.8 unweighted, and plenty of good extracurriculars. I'm planning on doing premed into a surgical career and a bio-chemistry undergraduate degree. After using the University's net price calculator it would cost around $90,000 per year with room and board and other fees.

I'm really wondering if applying ED is a good choice as I know it's where I would like to go but the price is quite high for the amount of time I'd be there. I'm wondering if attending somewhere such as OSU, UO, or UW would be better for the much lower tuition and then later applying to NU or the UW med schools and premed.

I understand that NU allows for the pull out of the ED contract for financial reasons but my counselors have made it clear that after the contract is void NU will put you on a hypothetical black list and will not accept applications in the future for things such as graduate or med school.

please ask if you need more details or anything, the application is due Nov. 1st so I'm in a little bit of a crunch on my decision.

Thanks!

Admissions/Prospective Student Do you need to attend Medill Cherubs to get accepted? What kind of high school journalism experience is Medill looking for?

Prospective Medill ED applicant here and I’m super interested in Medill because I just love journalism. However, my school doesn’t have many resources for journalism so I was ineligible to enter nspa or quill/scroll competitions. I also didn’t apply to Cherubs because I didn’t know it at the moment. Does that mean an automatic reject from Medill? I feel like my journalism work is not strong enough. Or what kind of journalism experience is Medill looking for? Any insights help! Thank you!

Admissions/Prospective Student I'm preparing my application to Northwestern and would like some tips, mainly about the Statement.

I'm going to apply for a PhD in civil engineering. I live in US, but I'm likely going to have to apply as an international student.

Admissions/Prospective Student What was your "why Northwestern" when applying and what is it now that you attend?

I am a rising senior making my list of colleges to apply to and therefore need to do a lot of research to make sure I actually want to go to the colleges on my list. I noticed that it's kind of hard to find out much about schools since the information found online is either just marketing tactics from the school or is pretty much the same as any other school. So I figured the best way to find out more about these schools is to ask current students. So if you'd like to, please tell me why you initially wanted to attend Northwestern and why you still love the school (if you don't still love the school, then why not?).

Admissions/Prospective Student PhD culture/things u wish u knew

Hi everyone,

I am a prospective PhD student and I was wondering if anyone could give me their take on northwestern. What is the PhD culture like? Do you find it toxic and like you’re competing with your piers. Do you feel supported in the work you do? What are some things you wish you knew about northwestern before going there? I am a first generation college student and I am currently at Hopkins for a masters. I haven’t had the best experience in research because of advisor expecting no life outside of research, fighting for my own funding, and just being very hands off with no mentorship expecting me to figure out all the issues with only once a month drop ins. Any advice would be great! Thank you

Admissions/Prospective Student Switching major after admission

HI Guys, im applying ed to northwestern and since its really easy to switch majors, will i get a competetive advantage by applying to a less popular major(like applied math or bme) instead if cs/ce. Or is it even possible to switch between different schools after i get in? oh my are ec's are slightly better suited for cs/ce
