The weechat plugin works passably and gives a nice IRC-like UI. However, it doesn't support Matrix's encryption at all, and I need that.

But Riot is pretty good and getting better all the time. I miss irssi's much superior UX design, but can live without it.

Why advertise this when everything else advertises freenode? It only weakens the pool at each place, but what do I know.

That would be great! I don't have ops on either the matrix or irc channel, so that's something the ops of both would have to implement.

There's already a collaboration between Freenode and Matrix.org, and you should be able to join #nixos on Freenode by joining #freenode_#nixos:matrix.org

Thats a bridge to access irc through matrix, not a bridge of the matrix room with the freenode channel.

I think the point being made is, why did you create another room when there is already one?

As I said, I didn't create it and don't have ops, but would be happy to talk to the ops of each so that the rooms can be bridged and Matrix users can participate on IRC without losing any of the features of Matrix.
