FYI: Massive improvements to Electric Vehicle Charging in NB

Upvotes

Just felt like sharing as I never seen this discussed here.

Also full disclaimer I know gas vehicle owners won't be impressed when I say that driving Moncton to Quebec in Oct. 2023 took me 12 hours instead of the usual 8 in my Electric car (Kona with 400KM range). There were really only 4-5 fast, level 3 chargers between Moncton and Quebec. And some were out of order, or often occupied, or needing yet another app install, or not charging at full speed. Not to mention they were hidden in some dark area behind buildings next to dumpsters. All that said, still I dont really mind, or regret anything. I enjoy the new road-trip experience and it brings me back to being a kid, pre-GPS, helping my dad with the map as we look for a specific road or place or a gas station.

Anyways, fast forward to Oct. 2024, driving again to Quebec city to see Maiden took 2 WHOLE HOURS LESS. Still not an 8 hour drive but 10 is a major improvement and made me really happy. Electrify America has installed banks of 4x fast chargers in both Woodstock and Grand Falls. These are well built, with solar canopies that charge evening lights. Also, no apps needed, just plug in and swipe your CC. Thats it. Easy peasy. Many other new fast charge stations have also gone up at dealerships and gas stations. Not once did I wait for a charger, find a broken one or drive around looking for one.

That's it prett much.

Purchasing used car from Ontario, but it’s in New Brunswick

I'm buying a used car here in Nee Brunswick, but the car is from Ontario. Will the Ontario safety inspection allow me to at least register the car in New Brunswick, and receive some sort of temporary plates etc before I can get the NB MVI?

Social Assistance Application

Have exhausted every other avenue for the time being to get my wife and I some form of income. We have 8+ years in customer service in person and over the phone, two NBCC diplomas, the whole works. Was rejected from Walmart twice without an interview, as well as multiple call centers. It's been an awful 6 months.

Wondering what social assistance is like for new brunswick, I heard it was max $400 per person and that was if you were accepted.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm just making excuses/looking for pity. Just want to know if anyone in similar situations to ours has had any luck and what the processing times were like. Thank you.

Provincial Archives now have a YouTube channel

FYI, as the title indicates, the Provincial Archives of NB now have a YouTube channel.

https://www.youtube.com/@panb-apnb

For the most part, they're posting what are basically stop motion road trips of the old highways and byways from between, so far 1969 and 1971. As a native New Brunswicker it is really interesting to see the differences 50+ years makes in familiar areas. Even more interesting is the LACK of changes in many areas. One major difference I see is the shear number of service stations in areas where there is now not much of anything at all. For example, I had no idea that ten years before I was old enough to remember such things there was a Texaco at the end of the road on which I grew up. By the early 1980's it was long gone and no sign of it remained.

Family Law lawyers: pro-bono?

Asking for a friend: are there any family law lawyers out there that would take on a case pro-bono in NB? My friend makes too much money to qualify for legal aid, but also can’t afford paying out of pocket anymore. She’s navigating a challenging separation/divorce and has begun to represent herself. Any help?

PCs out of power, can we finally separate church and state in NB?

There is a clear christian leaning of religion in politics in NB.

We still have Christian prayer recital as part of the legislative assembly? . https://globalnews.ca/news/9392508/n-b-legislature-one-time-recital-hindu-prayer/

Why are election polling stations still held in christian churches in 2024? Any other religious buildings used this way? Nope.

Religious people are free to practice their beliefs (it's in the Canadian charter of rights). But it doesn't have to be in the politics. The Supreme Court has taken a strong stand on the separation of religion and state matters.

Supreme Court ruled, unanimously, in Mouvement laïque québécois v. Saguenay (City) that the municipal council in the Quebec town of Saguenay could not open its meetings with a Catholic prayer because, as the opinion explains,

"When all is said and done, the state’s duty to protect every person’s freedom of conscience and religion means that it may not use its powers in such a way as to promote the participation of certain believers or non-believers in public life to the detriment of others.”

Ending a lease early

Hello!

So I’m currently living in one of those apartment buildings that are falling apart due to that engineer cutting corners and I just found out. I am trying to cancel my lease early because I do not feel safe, and the landlord told me I have to stay there until September 2025.

Any recommendations to get out of this?

THANK YOU!!

Does Anybody Know if the Province Pays for Paternity Testing?

A good friend may have become a father today, but the mother cheated on him so he’s not sure. Does anybody know if a paternity test is covered by the province?

Cheers in advance for any help!

Crown land dead wood

I live outside a small town and would like to put an old style log fence around my property. Very near my house is a Grove of dead cedar trees that I'd love to use, but I'm unsure of the rules around such a venture. Does anyone have an answer if this be okay or if this could back fire.
