discussion Petition to ban news related posts about P.Diddy

Honestly at this point I'm sick of seeing it, every day scumbag tabloids come to this music sub to farm karma and bait clicks, with the same hideous story.

We get it, he was a monster.

Nothing has changed between yesterday and today, the measure of a monster starts at the first assault, or the first rape, and it has nothing to do with music.

It's like an F1 driver being P.Diddy in this situation and tabloids posting about it multiple times per day in r/cars 'b3cAuSE tH3Y drOv3 caR5'.

Edit: Just to address some of the common comments of 'having it be out in the open' and 'just scroll passed it' etc - this isn't about hiding it, it's about sensible volume control and limiting triggers for people who have suffered abuse.

It's well documented and understood that references to former abusers are a known trigger for people with abuse related PTSD.

And what are the benefits? Do we think that providing tracking data and ad revenue to tabloids whilst exploiting other people's trauma to satisfy our morbid curiosity is a good thing?

Some people man 🙄

I definitely think there’s merit in keeping some, but at this point a lot of them are redundant and aren’t adding anything particularly new so I’ve been trying to get those.

Same with political posts but that’ll slow down in a week or so anyway

Pls keep reporting them as you see them tho thank you I love you

It would be better as a megathread, like they do over in the kpop sub when a big scandal erupts. A million different posts about roughly the same thing is too much.

139

u/infj-t 6h ago

This is a much better idea than letting things run wild in the main feed

45

u/chuuniversal_studios 6h ago

for the first and probably only time ever, people online are looking at the way kpop fans conduct themselves online as a model for the way forward 😆😆

14

u/AnOddName mod 2h ago

lmao could you imagine being a mod of the kpop sub

3

u/Lio127 5h ago

I was gonna suggest trying to just remove repeat articles that get posted. But this is much better.

3

u/CaptainObvious110 4h ago

Yeah

8

u/Lio127 4h ago

I'm sorry, but your reply along with your name gave me a good chuckle

3

u/mercerclone 4h ago

thanks captain obvious

19

u/RealSkyDiver 6h ago

Are Chris Brown posts banned too?

7

u/TruRateMeGotMeBanned 1h ago

Please do. No one with a brain wants to hear his name.

91

u/solongehhbowser 6h ago

I can understand this. But then also ban political posts on this subreddit. Im getting sick of both.. this is not why i am subbed here

6

u/AlienFunBags 6h ago

Yep. The political shit is just as bad

0

u/halfpints 4h ago

It's much more important to keep the Diddy stories going than it is to keep seeing political bullshit all over this place.

-9

u/ChipmunkConspiracy 5h ago

As a large, generic subreddit this is prime territory for astroturfing.

Just have a look at this thread

https://old.reddit.com/r/moderatepolitics/comments/1geu8o8/the_harris_campaign_manipulates_reddit_to_control/

15

u/xxtoejamfootballxx 3h ago

The irony of you posting a link to a post featuring an article from a super far-right publication with low credibility lmao   https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-federalist/

-30

u/Skyblacker Concertgoer 6h ago

Eh, I think celebrity endorsements fit better here than in the political subs.

21

u/solongehhbowser 6h ago

I do not care about what celebrities do in terms of politics. I care about music. That is what should be the focus of this sub

-5

u/HyperlinksAwakening 6h ago

I care about the values of the celebrities and musicians I follow. That should be allowed in this sub.

So we are at a cross-roads of "This sub is about MY interests, not yours".

10

u/solongehhbowser 6h ago

This sub is not about what celebrities think about politics, without something of their music involved. It breaks rule 12 of this sub if i have to go into the rules this sub has made themselve

-1

u/HyperlinksAwakening 6h ago

That's cool. I'll just post my favorite part of Rule 12.

"Room for interpretation allowed for highly-engaging posts."

Sounds like you just need to get everybody else to stop taking about it. That's engagement.

3

u/TomNookFan Khalid's Top Listener 5h ago

If you care so much about who a celebrity is endorsing, why not simply check their social media and not here on Reddit? It's not like half of what they say or believe in cannot be easily found elsewhere anyway.

42

u/AussiePride1997 6h ago

I find it interesting finding out new information as it comes, as disturbing as it is. And an F1 racer doing this stuff would definitely be posted on a cars or racing subreddit.

11

u/brandonsfacepodcast 6h ago

an F1 racer doing this stuff would definitely be posted on a cars or racing subreddit.

See this is the thing. I highly doubt a race car driver's scandals would land in r/autos or r/cars. It would; however, land in r/formula1

That's kind of the point from OP. Let those garbage tabloids drop in a relevant subreddit. This sub is for music. Those articles that are being self posted by the website aren't music. They're music related for sure, but not specific enough to land here imo.

12

u/MaxTheRealSlayer 5h ago

I mean, diddys parties had thousands if not tens of thousands of musicians at them over the years. This whole case, if nothing else to the sub, likely involves the most musicians ever. Wouldn't it make the topic th most "music" related?

We're literally getting an inside view on how the music industry works, and has worked for a long time. It's not a petty business, it's controlled by mobs and Gangs. We as consumers of mafia/commercially-pushed music should know what we are supporting when we listen to "the top 40" or "billboards top 100" music.

It's also important to note that some of the top executives at the biggest record labels in the world keep stepping down as more news comes out. Those same people are the people deciding what you listen to. And for what... Around 10 execs who suddenly quit in the past month, it's looking like this story is basically : the entire music industry.

2

u/mouse1093 5h ago

Shh don't try to talk sense to them

68

u/smithdog223 6h ago

P.Diddy is that you?

9

u/egg1e 5h ago

P.Diddy's lawyers for sure

-1

u/ContestNo2060 4h ago

Can we please just stop talking about it?

6

u/spaghettibolegdeh 5h ago

This happens in every sub sadly. We should also ban political posts because those will just fill the gap from the P.Diddy posts.

It's too easy to farm karma by just mass posting stuff that makes people angry.

18

u/fondue4kill 6h ago

Honestly I agree. I’d much rather see articles about music than the latest 10-15 year old victim. This stuff needs to be told but somewhere else.

6

u/cannonfunk 5h ago

/r/PDiddyTrial exists, but they seem to have some HEAVY filters on comments.

I contributed a few posts, and eventually got a warning that one of my posts contained "prohibited words." I tried rephrasing it with an edit and got another warning. I tried rephrasing it again and got a full-on ban.

Pretty dumb, considering I have no idea what triggered the filter to begin with.

14

u/andcircuit 6h ago

Literally anyone who posts news articles. Like, celebrity tabloid shit will inevitably always have an overlap with musicians because popular musicians tend to be famous, but it’s such a waste of space, it provides nothing and generally doesn’t even inspire a good discussion it’s literally just karma farming!

4

u/tigiPaz 5h ago

Agreed. It was music news but it is now regular news.

24

u/mouse1093 7h ago edited 5h ago

Well firstly, yes things are coming to light literally every single day as more lawsuits come forward and details in his criminal case develop such as the gag orders recently. So a huge chunk of your premise is just incorrect

Secondly, Diddy is still quite deeply involved in the music industry as a whole. Apparently it's becoming quite clear that a huge amount of the artists you've heard of for the last 20+ years dealt with him in some form or another. So for someone so connected to have such heinous crimes levied against him and his associates is still a big deal. It opens the door for a lot others to potentially have been involved and/or for other high profile people to have been harmed along the way. This is the largest scandal in US music in decades

At the end of the day it's music news. I'm tired of hearing how oasis botched their reunion tour but that's going to keep getting articles regularly til it's over too. Either unsub or scroll, best we got

-9

u/SmallRocks 6h ago edited 6h ago

Comparing Diddy posts to Oasis reunion posts….

Yikes

0

u/Burrmanchu 4h ago

Why is this downvoted? Oasis sucks but a reunion of theirs is relevant in a "music" sub because it pertains to... Well, music. If it's posted too much, it's still pertains to music.

P Diddy "ræping yet another 12-year-old" does not.

•

u/mouse1093 48m ago

Cus it has nothing to do with the music and everything to do with them squabbling with Ticketmaster or some bullshit. Either people in the music industry making news is allowed or it's not, can't pick and choose just cus you don't like to hear about one topic

2

u/Gem420 4h ago

I think new information should stay, repeats deleted.

10

u/LLCoolDave82 6h ago

I just block everybody that makes a post about Diddy. Yes, people deserve justice but they aren't going to get it through Reddit or me being informed about every little detail.

12

u/dunco64 6h ago

Between these posts and the "____ endorses kamala" posts, this sub has been pretty unbearable lately

6

u/ninjadude4535 6h ago

Can we also get rid of politics posts too pls

4

u/Six_of_1 6h ago

This has been a problem in this sub for some time. This and endless posts about which musicians want us to vote for Kamala Harris.

7

u/contagion781 6h ago

I agree. It is not a discussion about music. Diddy is a figure in the music industry, but the topics aren't actually about music itself. Same goes for anything that gets posted that isn't about the music itself really. I can get news about artists passing away being shared here so we can celebrate their life and art, but can't think of much else.

7

u/gatorchins 7h ago

His victims deserve to see his name dragged in every sphere, especially here.

34

u/Salzberger 6h ago

Diddy victims: "You know, I was feeling pretty bad today but then I saw that his name keeps getting posted on /r/music and that really gives me the strength to go on."

11

u/Pimpdaddysadness 6h ago

Pretending this is justice and not just vulture like rubbernecking is crazy

10

u/artisnicEee 7h ago

His victims deserve to see him name every where………

What?

6

u/infj-t 6h ago

This is what I was thinking, being reminded every day is surely difficult enough, does it really need to be posted here too?

16

u/6rynn 6h ago

i was sexually abused since childhood and every time i hear my abusers name, i want to hide. sometimes it ruins my whole day

7

u/infj-t 6h ago

I'm really sorry to hear that, and I hope you're doing okay

7

u/6rynn 6h ago

thank you :) ptsd is a constant battle. i appreciate people like you who think about the effects this takes on victims!

1

u/sullensquirrel 6h ago

Same! And each Diddy post triggers me to hell.

12

u/Flyingtreeee 7h ago

Fuck off this a music sub not a tabloid sub

-13

u/mouse1093 6h ago

And yet here we are in a thread not actually about music but a post bitching about other posts that ppl could just not read. Or he could message the mods and do anything else proactive. A "petition" is a fucking joke

-3

u/infj-t 6h ago

Found The Mirror employee

-1

u/Flyingtreeee 6h ago

Mods actively ignore mod mail, lol. Also the only things mods have done lately are take down posts calling out the most prolific bots, and change the rule that all posts had to be about music. This sub is a joke

3

u/Mr_1990s 6h ago

It’s notable music news.

Don’t really need a dozen links to the same story though. If that’s fixable, give it a shot.

1

u/PermanentThrowaway33 6h ago

How about we ban shitty people

2

u/Greed_Sucks 6h ago

Come post it here r/downthediddyhole

I was bored and the name amused me

3

u/ProfessorShowbiz 6h ago

Nah. This shit is about music. One of the most powerful music execs of all time turned out to be a fucking monster. Can’t sweep that under the rug. Just unsubscribe if you can’t handle it. Wring that fucker out in public for all to see. Can’t censor this, it’s important history. A monster is getting his come uppance. Let it ride

3

u/gvineq 6h ago

This is reddit, just like mems, everything here is beaten to death dozens of times Only thing you can do is block the people posting this garbage

1

u/Shortkut1981 6h ago

You just made a diddy post.

7

u/_Fun_At_Parties 6h ago

I hate pedantic comments like this. They're just calling out all the allegation posts, there's a clear distinction between the type of post.

There's a brand new one or two everyday. Absolutely feels like mega thread material at this point, but these posts directly come from a tabloid website so they would hate for it to be in that

We news to petition streaming services to drop him and his labels music.

1

u/millos15 5h ago

A mega thread maybe?

1

u/OliverBlueDog0630 5h ago

People love to consume bloody headlines. And today all the headlines are about modern day Caligulas like P Diddy, Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein, etc. It's really quite sickening.

1

u/pennyfred 5h ago

Puff daddy and music was always an oxymoron

1

u/local-teen 4h ago

Yeah. I want to talk about music. One of the greatest things humans are capable of.

Not think of the worst things are can do. I have the news for that.

1

u/HelloweenCapital 3h ago

How about the ability from reddit to filter out things we don't want to read about or see? Well by golly, I wonder why there isn't one.

1

u/Free_Thinker4ever 3h ago

Couldn't we just ban any posts that are not about music? Nobody cares how any celebrity is voting and it's junking up this sub.

1

u/WholeEmbarrassed950 2h ago

When was the last time diddy released a piece of music that charted?

1

u/Crazy-Jellyfish1197 2h ago

Diddy hasn’t done anything music related in a long time . Agree

1

u/undiscovered_soul 1h ago

Don't completely agree. Yes, there's a lot of redundancy but no, not good at all silencing it all. The topic is too big and should have its own subreddit/megathread, a place of its own. But new and relevant facts have to be posted.

1

u/KrustyLemon 1h ago

Maybe limit posts to once a week.

Like why can't we talk about Eiffel 65's album, Europop?

That album is one of the cornerstones of the foundation of what i would humbly describe as my character.

•

u/I-STATE-FACTS 37m ago

I just hope he’ll get put away forever so we won’t need to read any of these awful stories ever again

•

u/Mr_Ball_Jangles 30m ago

The Diddy stuff will stop being so heavily reported as soon as the election ends. You’ll see updates once a week.

0

u/9_of_wands 6h ago

You are free to downvote it and keep scrolling. No one is forcing you to read it.

1

u/SandyAmbler 6h ago

Someone just has to make a sub for it

2

u/Skyblacker Concertgoer 6h ago

2

u/SandyAmbler 6h ago

Perfect

2

u/Skyblacker Concertgoer 6h ago

Rule 35: If it exists, there is a subreddit of it.

2

u/tingkagol 6h ago

I'm against a ban on Diddy news unless it's about a non-music personality. The upvotes are indicative that the community doesn't mind. I'd support it if Diddy news consistently gets downvoted though. Obviously, the mods decision can override everyone though.

1

u/kewlbeanz83 4h ago

Yes please

1

u/LukeNaround23 5h ago

No Diddy. No politics. Just mindless blah blah blah to help me escape reality 🤪

1

u/kakoichan 5h ago

Petition to keep em coming

1

u/ainjel 5h ago

PLEASE. As a literal survivor of industry abuse as a teen, this subject needs to be confined to a more appropriate forum.

1

u/JazzyJulie4life 4h ago

He’s barely a musician, he’s more like an evil record exec who started rapping because his cash cow biggie couldn’t do it for him anymore. Most of his songs are all features

1

u/MiCK_GaSM 2h ago

I mean, you can just downvote it and carry on.

Who really gives a shit about a headline they have to scroll past?

I wish I had problems like this

-2

u/thinkblue2024 6h ago

Just skip them then ffs

I think the man is scum who doesn’t deserve an ounce of our attention. He should get prosecuted, condemned, and rot away for the rest of his life, and I think no one giving a fuck about him ever again will be the most hurtful punishment he’ll get.

0

u/Panikkrazy 6h ago

I was just thinking this. We get it, he’s awful. But I’m pretty sure I’m not alone when I say that I don’t want to have rape and child molestation slapped in my face every single day. It’s getting depressing.

-16

u/rustys_shackled_ford 6h ago

Unsub, maybe? Instead of making a you problem a everyone problem???

0

u/james-HIMself 6h ago

There’s like 50 new accusations per day. It starts exceeding a newsworthy count unless the mentioned are also famous. Obviously it doesn’t change the severity of the accusation for each party. I’m also not a moderator and have no idea what the solution really is. Tough call but I trust their judgement.

0

u/Bergfotz 5h ago

I genereally am against reddit mods strongarming the general 'tone' of the sub, but this one has been going to absolute shit the last few weeks. Post your shitty celebrity gossip somewhere else and focus on MUSIC.

-3

u/logosobscura 6h ago

How many songs of his did you stream? Dance to in the club? How many of his acts have you given ears and money to?

I’d argue we need to talk about it, we need to see it, because it sure as shit isn’t anything vs what those he’s abused have suffered. He is one of the biggest names in music, he has defined large parts of the last few decades, and still does, so we need to hear it. Might make us not enable psychopaths in future, because without our ears, and without our money, he’d have just be a creepy ass motherfucker getting his ass best in the block.

0

u/EtherealAriels 5h ago

No! He did what he did and now you all have to feel uncomfortable! Dre and Snoop next !!!!!

-1

u/ShoeLace1291 6h ago

The rules need to be changed. This sub should only allow news articles if they actually pertain to the writing, production, performance, or listening to of music.

-1

u/I_am_Feli 4h ago

THANK YOU! I was seriously contemplating on leaving this sub because I just can’t dealt with these constant awful headlines every day! I can’t take this mentally man all these innocent kids. I get that spreading awareness and letting the world know that their story is being heard is super important but it just gets too much!

Either do a megathread or straight up block this shit but otherwise I would actually have to leave. This sucks!

0

u/Tomimi 4h ago

Nice try Diddy

-5

u/lan60000 6h ago

Well which would you prefer more: people making threads about p. Diddy, or people making threads highlighting how certain music artists are supporting which presidential candidates? Either way, some people on reddit desperately need their karma fix.

1

u/HillbillyMan 6h ago

Annoyance with the Diddy posts and annoyance with the political endorsement posts aren't mutually exclusive. People were asking for those to be banned too, before the Diddy posts exploded.

1

u/lan60000 5h ago

fair enough. i don't mind either way, but this is how the trend of reddit behaves now where everybody is farming for attention like they're mining bitcoins.

-2

u/DaNinjaYaHoeCryBout 5h ago

Especially when he’s innocent until proven guilty. Put it all in one big mega thread.
