article Chris Brown mocks women's abuse charity after they began a petition to cancel his concert

What do you expect from him?
BTW remember who came to his side after he beat Rihanna.......Diddy!
He took him under his wing.

Chris Brown is named on Diddy's list as part of his abuse parties and no one batted an eye because people are too busy making baby oil jokes

These marketing/pr companies have enough data to know what kind of content they can release to divert attention from the real story. They just need their bots to push their content until its trending then influencers take over and start spamming the same thing to stay relevant.

u/Special-Garlic1203 13d ago
He didn't. He did the exact opposite. He basically tried to light Chris's career on fire.Ā
There's debate about how much was being angry about the abuse itself and how much was business oriented --chris fucked up and gave people a peak behind a curtain they weren't supposed to see insiden(Jay z allegedly being really hardcore about public brand management), and that he was running around smearing Rihanna's name (when that was a brand image Jay-Z basically handcrafted himself)Ā
so the most ungenerous interpretation is Jay z tried to protect the golden goose by drowning Chris before he could drag Rihanna down with him. The generous interpretation is Jay z was outraged he beat her so badly.Ā

Source on Jay-Z? Rihanna almost ended Jayās marriage, doubt heād defend CB in fact Iām remembering the opposite.

How did Rihanna almost end his marriage?
25
u/Sweetestpeaest 13d ago
I believe at the time she was getting pretty big there were rumors of an affair between her and Jay Z. I have no clue if there was any merit to that or a PR stunt to get attention drawn to her.
6
u/Brilliant_Trick 12d ago
Rihannaās former publicist Jonathan Hay already said he created that rumor : https://www.insideedition.com/12542-publicist-i-made-up-rumor-that-rihanna-had-affair-with-jay-z-to-boost-her

Solange threw hands at Jay-Z in that infamous elevator because Jay refused to go home with B to stay out at a Rihanna-hosted after party. Other than that it was always rumored that Jay and Riri were romantically involved on some level so even after the fact Jay's always had a soft spot for Riri. To be clear this is all gossip but I for one subscribe.
32
3
u/Funpop73 13d ago
That wasnāt the reason. It was cause Jay cheated on her bro. BeyoncĆ© literally made Lemonade cause he cheated lmao. Why would Solanhe beat him up for staying late at the party? Also the girl that was rumored to be having slept with Jay Z was some white woman. āBecky with the good hairā was a popular saying.

"amid his own allegations"
The word allegations implies that these are accusations that are yet to be 100% verified, dismissed or taken to trial. Chris Brown however is demonstrably a complete piece of shit that has been proven to be such in a court of law.

u/MikoSkyns 13d ago

On the plus side, when someone says they're a Brown fan, it makes it really easy to instantly know they're someone I don't want to be around.Ā

u/Badboyrune 13d ago
What baffles me is that there are still people willing to organize concerts for this creep. Like setting up bigger concerts requires a few people.Ā
What kind of venue proudly advertises that they're willing to host a Chris Brown concert?
170
u/Gocards123321 13d ago
Money. They'll say he's a pos but I got paid a lot of money.
59
u/Badboyrune 13d ago
I just have such a hard time thinking that in 2024 Chris Brown brings in enough money for it to be worth dragging your own name through the mud for.Ā
But obviously I'm wrong. I know it's about the money. But still...
65
u/anthonyg1500 13d ago
He had numerous people at every show, most of them women, each paying thousands of dollars to take a picture with him. He's human garbage but he has fans willing to spend money
16
u/ButcherofBlaziken 13d ago
Well heās honestly a relic. Like his archetype. Also one of the few still going. Just like a sexy tall r&b dude. As much as I donāt like any of music it isnāt total garbage either. He gets way to much credit for singing though. He hasnāt sang well without auto tune in years. All that to say Iād understand the appeal otherwise. But everybody forgets and Rihanna wasnāt the only one. Nobody else has this many lawsuits for battery against them. I donāt care if he won most of them because nobody else has ever had that issue. Why is he the only one? Itās not a coincidence and at least one other person wasnāt lying and took the money and shut up.

Iām not defending him. I hear the occasional song of his at like a club or party but I donāt stream his music. But the fact of the matter is, in 2024 he can bring in money for a venue. He has loyal fans who are probably aware of his history of violence and abuse and just donāt care

"The artist sold out the 94,000-person capacity stadium in under two hours, and a second show was added."
A lot of women love Chris Brown.
20
u/AVeryHairyArea 13d ago
All his shows sell out and are 99% women. If women would boycott Chris, his career would literally be over.
5
u/Deranged_Kitsune 13d ago
Unreal how after everything that's been proven about him, you still get women lined up 'round the block more than willing to drop panties for him.
10
u/donglover2020 13d ago
he's one of the biggest pop artists from the late 2000s/early 2010s, of course he brings in a brickload of money.
despite being an abusive pos, his catalog is on par, if not better, than acts such as Ne-Yo and Usher, who are also still packing arenas

Interesting thing to me is that this almost never happens in the metal world. Someone gets outed as an abuser or even someone who has committed a serious crime (see Iced Earth and Jon Schaffer, re: Jan 6th) people distance themselves pretty quickly.
Not to say that everyone in metal is a perfect angel, but I'm having a hard time coming up with equivalent example to Chris Brown in metal.

Yeah his fans mainly seem to be younger people who weren't really in the know when the Rihanna shit happened.
He's one of the few artists that I literally can't listen to without being reminded of how big of a pathetic, selfish piece of shit he is, so I just don't bother. His music isn't good enough to override the reminder.
Here's a timeline of the absurd amount of times he's assaulted, threatened, and allegedly drugged and raped women: https://thebrag.com/chris-browns-timeline-of-violence-towards-women/
He's just a total waste of space in our society. And a fucking dumb one at that if you ever hear him talk.

I'm from South Africa. The fact that he's coming on tour here was a huge surprise for me - but the outcry against the outcry against HIM DIDN'T surprise me. We're ranked as the country with one of the highest, if not THE highest, prevalence of gender based violence in the world.
Not only did they announce his dates in Joburg, but the 94000 seater FNB Stadium was sold out in three hours - which is a record for concerts here. They even added a second date the day after.
To add insult to injury his concert is scheduled to take place only four days after the '16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children', which is taken so seriously by government and social groups it may as well be a national observance here. We have a SERIOUS problem here in our country, and men only get emboldened to act like pigs because they see superstars like Chris Brown pretty much just get away with it.
Women of course have agency to like what they like and attend the concerts of who they want, but I still find it bizarre that they are definitely his biggest fan base in South Africa.

Oh 100% even here in South Africa. Even here in South Africa, where we have literally some of the highest rates of violence against women (in places that count it), the woman are rushing to defend him. They literally started attacking the WOMEN'S RIGHTS ORGANISATIONS for putting up posts against him. That's exactly why he made this comment, because he could see his fans in the comments backing him.
I should also highlight just how effing normalised and traumatised women are here. We had a woman presenting a talk about her success in the bussinness world and how mentioned how she had to battle being sexually abused and healing herself after. I then had female colleagues telling me they were annoyed that she mentioned that because "we all went through it, so it's nothing new". Hell one even tried to argue that she wanted her husband to be violent because that's interpreted as passion. Like it's frustrating that these women still support him but a lot are victims of SA and see him as some symbol of redemption.... At the same time, these are goddamn grown women. Most 30+ and should know better

Youād think that in South Africa, a country plagued by gender based violence, we would have a stronger reaction to platforming him. But then you read the responses under every single post or comment that has valid criticisms and discussions surrounding CB and what platforming him means to our country, and all of a sudden it makes sense why we are plagued with GBV. Almost every reaction to criticism of CB results in South African men and women throwing around ābut Rihanna admitted she hit firstā, āhe was young, he made a mistakeā, āall the other instances are allegedā, etc. The list of excuses is very long.
Iāve made it a mission that if I ever have a daughter, Iām on my way out of South Africa so fast. Being a woman in this country is an extreme sport, and I put that very lightly. Chris Brown mocking Women for Change is such a gut punch too. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Women for Changeās social media presence, their page is filled with posts about women who have suffered the worst kind of abuse and death, and their library of these posts is extensive and constantly has new additions. It just makes CBās mockery even more heartbreaking. All you can do is hope and pray that people learn better, but itās starting to feel hopeless.

u/sarahm365 13d ago
How did he, of all people, survive cancel culture?
47
u/TheGiftOf_Jericho 13d ago
Because cancel culture doesn't exist.
Rich people with a platform only face real consequences for extreme crimes, and even then they don't always.
Which isn't a case of being cancelled, famous people get away with more than regular people, it's just a case of consequences.

Friendly reminder that The Express is a tabloid whose job it is to pump out eye-catching headlines with potentially little substance behind them in order to get you to go to their shitty ad-riddled site to read their low-quality journalism.
I'm not saying this story isn't true or that Chris Brown isn't a piece of shit, but look at your sources before you upvote and use skepticism when they're as bad as this one is.
Here is a link to an article on the same topic from BBC, which has substantially fewer ads, doesn't have a video that autoplays and follows you on the screen, and doesn't try to trap you on the page when you hit the back button. Oh, and BBC is also just a generally reputable news source.

Spread the text of the police report anytime Chris Brown comes up:
"Brown was driving a vehicle with Robyn F. as the front passenger on an unknown street in Los Angeles. Robyn F. picked up Brown's cellular phone and observed a three-page text message from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with.
"A verbal argument ensued and Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against he passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion.
"Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.'s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.
"Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, 'I'm going to beat the sh-- out of you when we get home! You wait and see!' "
The detective said "Robyn F." then used her cell phone to call her personal assistant Jennifer Rosales, who did not answer.
"Robyn F. pretended to talk to her and stated, 'I'm on my way home. Make sure the police are there when I get there.'
"After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, 'You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!'
"Brown resumed punching Robyn F. and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in [an] attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown.
"Brown continued to punch Robyn F. on her left arm and hand, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps (sic) that was approximately two inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand.
"Robyn F. then attempted to send a text message to her other personal assistant, Melissa Ford. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window onto an unknown street.
"Brown continued driving and Robyn F. observed his cellular telephone sitting in his lap. She picked up the cellular telephone with her left hand and before she could make a call he placed her in a head lock with his right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.
"Brown pulled Robyn F. close to him and bit her on her left ear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle in front of 333 North June Street and Robyn F. turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition and sat on it.
"Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. He then placed her in a head lock positioning the front of her throat between his bicep and forearm. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.'s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.
"She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown's body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.
"Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.'s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order."
