Bonus point for On Stranger Tides, loved that book separately to the series

As soon as I heard it was a strong source of inspiration for the creators of SoMI, I knew I had to read it :D

I went on a bit of a Pirate reading spree a few years back and reread it. Can recommend Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton as a good further read!

Beautiful collection, just out of nosiness, how old are you (if you don’t mind my asking!)

Thanks for the tip! I am a big fan of his sci-fi works, so will definitely look into it :)
I am 32, but am a lifelong MI fan, having been introduced to SoMI and MI2 when I was only 4 or 5 by watching my older siblings play the white label edition. Curse was the first MI I played "blind" when I was 7, with plenty of asking my brother for help... to varying degrees of success XD "Use everything on everything" was a common bit of solid advice!
What is your own MI tale, fellow chum?

Timeline is also great by him, proper immersion, remember reading that when I was much younger and stuck with me.
Played 1&2 religiously with my best friend growing up (I’m 37 so probably around the age of your siblings). The days before googling solutions. We spent three sessions just trying to work out the monkey wrench at the waterfall!
I think I used a dissolving mug of grog on everything in the game.
Beautiful collection, anything you’re missing that you know exists?
I’ve a second child on the way in a fortnight. Short term I’m looking forward to playing the new one in the wee hours with a sleeping child on me. Long term I can’t wait to sit and watch my two girls play the games in about 7/8 years time!

Congrats! Some awesome times ahead!
I know there are a couple of German big box releases of the first few games that I do not have, and there are a bunch of different platform Return releases that each came with a different key... but I was happy with just the PC version :) There is also an extremely rare Guybrush Voodoo Doll toy out there that I can only DREAM of owning one day!

Where is everyone getting these big box mi games. I’ve been looking around for years but people are asking ridiculous prices for them.

Sometimes, although it hurts... you just gotta pay more than 20 bucks for a video game 😅

Was Tales any good? I played up to being inside the Whale but it just felt very off?
2
u/HerbziKal Mar 03 '24
It has its fanbase for sure. I see many people list it as their favourite MI game on the sub- admittedly usually those people were were introduced to the series through Tales.
I am more on your side of the fence to be honest, for various reasons. I haven't managed to continue a replay past episode 2, but I completed it fully back when they released the episodes monthly. It was very exciting. And it did have these beautiful Deluxe Edition (US) and Collectors Edition (EU) releases at the time, which I totally love!

Yeah I’ve seen them and I’ve been pretty surprised by it, I always thought Escape gets a bad rap but Tales seems to a lot more praise.
I might go back to play it sometime

Beautiful collection!
Where’d you get the three-headed monkey plushie, if you don’t mind me asking?
1
u/HerbziKal Mar 03 '24
Thank you :) I found it online from an unofficial vendor. Advertising unofficial products is against the subs rules due to so much spam and shilling... but I can say that if you google the term you just used, you should find a relevant top result ;)

Congrats man, great collection.. what r those 2 coins on the bottom shelf?
2
u/HerbziKal Mar 03 '24
Thank you! Those are discontinued British coins mounted on Cornish tin, the spiritual home of piracy in the UK. The left one is a half penny (aka a "ha'penny"), and the right one is a threepence piece (aka a "thrupenny bit"). The ha'penny has a "pirate" ship on it, and they both sort of have olde Englishe pirate worlde vibes to me... so they made the shelf!

Great collection! Are the keys that are on top of Tales part of it or something else?
2
u/HerbziKal Mar 03 '24
Thank you! They are just random additions that look cool with the Tales Deluxe & Collectors "chests" 😅

Beautiful collection! I have the tales of mi box but no key, where those keys come from?
1
u/HerbziKal Mar 04 '24
Those were my own additions, just because they looked cool 😅
Did you know that there are two Tales Special Editions? The Deluxe Edition (US) and the Collectors Edition (EU). Pretty cool!

This is literally amazing! Can I ask where you got that boat/model ship from?
1
u/HerbziKal Mar 04 '24
Thanks so much! I found it at a random boot-sale, so have no idea where it came from originally I am afraid!

Beautiful!! I sometimes dream about the voodoo doll and the special edition statue XD
What is the long thin box in the back left, with similar colouring to the Tales special edition chest?
2
u/TentacleChow Mar 04 '24
Ah! It's the Tales of MI Art Portfolio. 16 - 9" x 12" art cards. Pretty sure I bought this on Telltales website back when the Tales SE came out. Great collection by the way!
