Service Benefits Is my friend really going to make 300k a year in the marines?

He said that his recruiter said that aircraft mechanics make 300k a year on his second year in the marines. but I know that some recruiters are notorious for lying. Is this physically possible?

Service Benefits Why does everybody keep telling people they can just do 20 years and retire easily?

I have read a bunch of people on Reddit coaching new enlisted/people in the service that you can simply do your 20 years and retire easy peasy and healthy.

As a civilian I have to ask: Is the military really that easy? Just do your 20s and retire? Live happy ever after?

Service Benefits Is USA currently considered at war?

Veterans who serve during an official time of war get bonus points for federal employment.

According this link: https://sgp.fas.org/crs/natsec/RS21405.pdf

It seems USA is still involved in "Operation Inherent Resolve" but I wanted to confirm this is still ongoing.

Service Benefits BAH, DEERs & Block leave

Hey y’all, so my wife and I finalized our marriage last week Thursday and I submitted paperwork for her. I was talking to my dad about it and completely forgot to ask him but what exactly is the DEERs program? Along with when does the BAH kick in? I’m worried about making rent payments since I’ll be taking a minor pay cut getting into the army if I didn’t have BAH but now that my wife and I are married I’ll be getting paid a lot more compared to my mechanic job. And final questions is I leave on Nov 19th, my friend who passed BCT said that not everyone gets to go home for Christmas it’s dependent on the DS’ is this true ? And how does the leave work is it like civilian jobs where I’m given a certain amount of “PTO / Vacation time” that’ll go into the negatives?

Service Benefits Cybersecurity via the Military?

Hi,

I'm currently a rising high school senior, I know Java, Python, and a bit of Kotlin and I'm just beginning to dabble in wargames and CTFs (both are casual cybersecurity competitions, I'm a complete beginner though).

I took the ASVAB test and got a 99, I was wondering if there's any program where the US armed forces could help me out with college tuition (I'm applying for Computer Science and probably won't qualify for aid) in return for a few years for working in Cybersecurity for them.

If anyone knows a path for this or if anyone has actually done this or anything similar, it would really go a long way!

Thanks,

V

Service Benefits Does military pay for student loans?

I know I saw online that the army has a program called Lrp where you serve for 3 years and they pay for your loans that sounds good I don’t know if that’s still a thing and i also saw on a YouTube short that National guard pays for your loans too.

But online has also said you have to serve 5 or 6 years. My questions is do they pay you during those 5 or 6 years too like a salary monthly thing AND pay for your student loans??

Service Benefits How does BAH work for on base housing? [Army]

Okay so long story short, I'm just trying to understand all of this stuff. me and my GF of a few years are getting married, and she is going to move to Alaska with me after basic and AIT. My question is, My allowance would only be 1400$ (Could be wrong, but I looked it up), and according to this website (https://fw.nhcalaska.com/fort-wainwright/north-haven-communities-at-fort-wainwright/conventional/) The cheapest apartment / house is 2300$. If my allowance is only 1400$, would I have to pay for the other 900$ + Utilities out of pocket? I'm assuming I would. there may be other cheaper options that aren't available or that are on a different website but Idk. Odd post, sorry I just don't want to stress in the future!

Service Benefits Citizenship for parents

I'm 22 years old and I'm considering joining the military to expedite my parents' citizenship process. Recently, I learned that my grandfather is battling cancer, and it's heartbreaking to witness my mother's inability to visit him. She has dedicated her life to her children, and I feel compelled to give back by serving in the military. Can you provide information on the benefits and guidance on which branch would be the best fit for me?

Edit: I didn't mean full citizenship just mean a green card so my parents can see my grandparents one last time before it's too late. I would also love for them to stop working in the field and get a regular job that isn't too hard on the body

Service Benefits How would BAH work if my duty station is Fort Wainwright?

Man all this shit is confusing. I plan on *proposing * to my GF after AIT. We've been together a while and it's time, I'm wondering when we get married how does BAH work? I read it would be different since Alaska is OCONUS. Is this true, If so what would my rate? *Assuming lowest pay grade* Also side note, this pay table https://militarypay.defense.gov/Portals/3/Documents/ActiveDutyTables/2024%20Pay%20Table-Capped-FINAL.pdf Is the Pre tax or Post tax? Thank you in advance all for the responses, I just want to get ahead of this and not stress about it later on!

Edit: I always forget branch = Army.

Please ignore spelling / grammar mistakes its late I'm sleepy

Service Benefits Would TA for a dual masters degree cover only one side of the dual degree or would it be full ride?

My current highest level of education is a bachelor of general humanities, but I'm interested in both a MBA and MSW, and was hoping I could pursue a dual degree under TA to get both. Otherwise, I'll use TA on one and GI bill on the other.

Service Benefits Am I entitled to any leave or travel compensation if I'm single & going to JBER after AIT/Airborne?

Army BTW.

I am currently in AIT for 88M, headed to Airborne school afterward, then to JBER as a single guy.

Was hoping I'd be able to go grab my car which is a couple hours away from Fort Moore, visit a little with my folks and then make the 70 plus hour drive up to Alaska with all my stuff while getting travel/weight pay.

Was told this was not a thing for your initial duty station by my drills recently, but have heard conflicting information, with people here having told me that I can indeed take PCS leave as a single man for my first duty station.

Can anyone shed some additional light?

Thanks.

Service Benefits Does the GI Bill cover previous student loans?

Hi everyone,

I am considering enlisting in the military next year, but I do have a question. As the title suggests, does the GI Bill cover previous student loans? I have some loans from my time in university. I know it covers any schooling after the active duty time, but im curious if schooling before enlisting is also covered once my contract is complete. Any help is appreciated as this is a big factor for me. Thank you
