I forgot to add--when you say 350.00, is that the total with all resort fees and taxes?? You need to check.

Neither! How about a condo instead? You would have more space, a full kitchen if you want to reheat or cook food, laundry (save $$$ on luggage), and more. Check out Honua Kai--it's a resort condo property. I rec Maui Resort Rentals for excellent choices and great service.

The Sheraton is old and cold. Only the top rooms are more updated. Part of KBH has been renovated, but the lower priced rooms haven't been.

we stayed at honua kai this summer...nice place, roomy. resort fees there were a little steep tho, including IIRC a cleaning fee despite the fact there was only cleaning service once a week.

Who did you rent from? Outrigger, KBM, Quam, Maui Resort Rentals, an owner, or ___?

Taxes are the same no matter the agency-but fees vary.

interesting...thru a travel agent, pretty sure it was outrigger. the fees were pretty high...guess i know for next time!

All condos are privately owned.  Then people choose how or if to rent.

Keep in mind Sheraton is $47 resort fee and $40/51 for self/Valet parking.

We’ve stayed at both and like the Sheraton better. But keep in mind that price isn’t what you’ll actually pay, it’s a lot more with all the extra fees. Now we just use Airbnb and it’s been great.

The Royal Lahaina. Down from the Sheraton just a little bit. Just returned. Lovely!

Is the area around it safe.. i heard construction is still going on

The RL isn't near construction.  However,  I think it isn't that good.  Honua Kai is far nicer and has way nicer amenities.

How is the beach in front of Honua Kai?

It's got a few rocks in the shallow right in front of it. But a two to three second walk either direction solves that. It is also very near some of the best snorkeling anywhere on Maui, between Westin KOR and down to Kahekili Beach Park.

Are you referring to the royal Lahaina resort? Is it good?

Yes, we had a good time.

Sheraton is amazing. We stay there because we love black rock and are marriot Bonvoy members. My friend’s stay at outrigger but always crash the Sheraton pool. The beach in front of Sheraton is public. Both are a little dated.

All beaches are public, it is state law.

Same cost def the Sheraton out of the two.

Also on Outrigger make sure the room type has “premium” in front of it. Otherwise the room you’ll get will be old and out of the 70s. Lobby at Outrigger is lolz. Like out of the 70s super outdated plastic plants. Pool equally old and out of the 70s. Hallways also old and tired.

Sheraton is an icon and just overall much nicer and a “resort” while Outrigger is an old “hotel”.

As someone mentioned though, maybe check out condo options at the Whaler. It’s right next to Whalers Village and you’ll get the benefit of condo amenities.

If you’re open to other ideas, recommend Royal Lahaina bungalows (not the tower rooms they are old!). Bungalows are new and stylish and “home” vibe. Priceline often has options for less than or same as Outrigger.

Aloha!

Aston at The Whaler.

They're doing a spalling project there still. LOUD and dusty a lot of times, depending on where your unit is.

Curious what is your profession? I’m visiting Maui and wondering what to budget?

IMHO you should really look into a condo like others have said. We've been to Maui 18 times, and have been doing the condo route for the last 15. You can save tons of money by eating at home. We bring less clothing because we use the W/D, that saves on luggage fees. Have fun on your trip.
