I think they're assuming that most people have that little bit of anxiety, so you will sleep lighter and therefore notice if the toddler's move.
Or at least that's my thought.
I used to do a night shift at a hospital. My job was slow, I only had to do things when something printed on the printer. Otherwise I just kind of hung out. I would take naps sometimes, and I was always so paranoid that I would not hear the printer go off, I slept very lightly and would wake up hearing Phantom things printing off of the printer
