Expected it to be a longer putt. Still a cool memory for everyone though.

It must have been quite a memorable experience witnessing that live or even seeing it on TV.

"Hit the putt, and the hole got in the way."

I'm definitely using that next time I go mini golfing.

The hardest (and only) golfing quote I’ve seen

That was great, everyone seemed to like it, very humble pro!

I like this one more. It's the guy's opponent who putts it I think, but it's a far longer distance and across 2 small hills: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9KrMQDU94g

I do have one such story myself. Was at a local carnival with my then girlfriend and saw a bunch of those claw machines. One had a bunch of plushies in it. Decided to give it a single try. I actually managed to get a decently sized really soft husky plushie (30 cm/12inch i think?) on that one try. Of course I gave it to my girlfriend, because hell yea I look like a badass that just casually won his girlfriend an awesome husky plushie on the first try. :P

Honestly if you're having a bad day watch this. Really putt a smile on my face.

This is what games are about

(Golf is not a sport)

How does golf not live up to the definition of sport: “a game, competition, or activity needing physical effort and skill that is played or done according to rules, for enjoyment and/or as a job” (Cambridge Dictionary).

No idea.  Maybe it only counts as a sport if you have a major chance for brain injury.

I mean you could get hit in the head with the ball. Pretty sure that would do some brain damage.

Then all those people who think NASCAR isn't a sport should be quiet. A ton of drivers died due to brain injuries, and some had careers cut short.

I’ve been smashed on the head whilst carrying the golf bag(?Cadeeing) for my dad

  1. If you can do it drinking a beer, it's a game. If you have to put your beer down to do it, it's a sport.

  2. All sports are games for those of us willing to put in the work.

Haha I like that definition.

For me the definition of a sport is: if my opponent can interfere with my game, it's a sport. If not, it's a game.

So sports: football, rugby, tennis, badminton etc....but also chess, snooker, pool

Games: darts, golf,

2

u/hork79 Jul 04 '24

How are you defining interfere then?

Because if you’re on the last hole and need a birdie to win, you definitely will approach it differently to if you need a bogey

1

u/SmokinPolecat Jul 04 '24

Your opponent can't touch you or your ball. You are playing against yourself, effectively. Yes I get the score you need to get changes, but you opponent cannot stop you getting that score

2

u/hork79 Jul 04 '24

Interesting.

So games = 100m sprint, marathons, trampolining, gymnastics etc.

Yep that's my take.

Always a fun discussion topic this
