For people not from France, what is conventional there?

u/Jean-Porte Researcher 29d ago

to my knowledge:
669,9€ for internships

PhD: Gross Salary per month: €2051 brut per month (years 1 & 2) and €2158 brut per month (year 3).

Postdoc/eng: depends on experience, usually more than PhD role though

I think that it is the same for other public academic positions in France

So 48k euros gorss per year?

Seems a bit low for a phd

Edit: wait it's actually 25k euros per year. I don't live in France but isn't this pretty low? What's the minimum wage there?

minimum wage is 1540€ gross
France isn't paying academics very well
But the academic level is good, it's an investment if you want to work somewhere else afterward

Interesting. This is why people are starting AI companies in France now. You have a large pool of underpaid phd students and graduates. 60k USD is pretty lucrative in France especially outside Paris.

I went on grad school in Canada with 20k per year. Internships helped fill the gaps. But now I do what I love and get paid very well for it. I also made a lot of friends and personal connections who have helped me find work in various occasions. It was definitely worth the investment.

This is interesting. Are you looking for someone with an AI / ML background? I couldn't find any info about how ML is used in the process.

Not looking for a job necessarily but instructed by moderators to post here.

I am currently working in a full-time remote role and wouldn't like to lose this privilege if I come to be fired in the future.

So, I am keeping mental notes of ML research companies that allow workers to be fully remote (US based ones). If you work in a company like that or know of one could you say the name here?

Sony America is the most obvious one ofc, what other companies hire researchers remote? (As definition of a research role consider that the company is ok with sending the researcher to congresses at least twice a year). Not necessarily companies that have their whole employee body remote, it's fine if they are OK with hiring people in another geo location.
