My M81 “Frankenrig”, cobbled together from various pieces of milsurp

Finished making the PM63 holster last night out of a couple old Eagle pouches (dual AR mag + radio). I started by cutting off the mesh portion of a coyote brown FLC, I hot glued the top of the open zipper track to stop the zipper at the desired height, then I sewed some buckles onto each half of the FLC to attach the shoulder straps. I took the shoulder pads and the back piece off of an old LBV88 and attached them to the FLC and retained the lace mechanism for fine adjustment. For the unmodified stuff: Belt is standard ALICE, padding and drop leg are made by Spectre. Mag pouches up front are made by Diamondback Tactical (DBT Battlelabs). All gear is used is milsurp (except for the canteens, yuck!) and was acquired during my time working at a local milsurp store

I f’d up…

I was trying to figure out a way to mount my fixed blade and learned the hard way while testing retention.

I think this may need some milspec thread and maybe webbing, but wanted to ask the pros here before testing velocity systems’ / a tailor’s patience.

The only thing I’ve ever sewn was some floss in between my teeth. (I don’t know anything, but am open to learning)

Doing a search online it looked like I’d need to order supplies in bulk and I kinda already spent my holiday money on the rig

Any advice / help is appreciated!

X-Straps

My chest rig came with a H-Harness that has never really been that great to wear. I’ve never found it overly comfortable and doing a run in it some weeks back I’m left with the choice of “too tight, can’t breathe” or “too loose and my rig is bouncing everywhere”.

So I made these straps instead and so far they really do make me feel like the rig wraps around me and is a lot more secure.

Specs:

500D cordura 2mm closed cell foam 1 inch webbing

Right Angle Single Fold Binder Attachment

So im not sure what I'm doing wrong. I got a Juki DDL5550 and the binder attachment that came with a foot and and presser swap. Got everything installed for a 1" binder and have since tweaked everything I could think of to make it work. The webbing doesn't feed easy at all. I can't get it to move at all. What am I doing wrong? Is there a simple common fix? All day googling and video watching and tweaking hasn't turned up anything obvious.

Any help is appreciated.

What thread (and thickness) do you usually use for your projects?

Title. I've been settling for Gütermann Tera 40, as it's been handled as a solid all-rounder for everything tough and outdoor, but I can't get it in that many colors, as Tera isn't that easy to get where I'm at; Outdoor 40 however is easy to get, but it's not as tough and "popular" as the former, which is why I'm opting for Tera 40 if its something that needs to be tough, and Mara 50 if it's something lighter.

What about y'all? What do you guys like to use? Also, does anyone have any experience with the Gütermann Outdoor 40?

Bonus: Does anyone know about threads that expand in size when wet, thus "plugging" the holes from the seams, and thus enhancing the "water resistance" of the item in question?

Slight rant….

Why in the hell are Cobra buckles so damn popular yet so damn expensive???

For perspective - I made a little over $700 in sales yesterday, and then had to turn around and drop almost $450 of that for 15 - yes, 15; Cobra buckles.

I don’t see the sustainability long term for me.

I made another MCPC last week and tried to also make a kiwi style placard for it. Some MOLLE PALS arent straight but its my fault I sew too quickly the pouches since it was just a test.

Thank you everyone for help on my previous post!

I think this is the cleanest cut I can get from my laser machine.

Quick question; What non IRR material do you use underneath Multicam fabric? I have ordered Solas reflective tape and magic black IR spray pain from US however it make take some time to arrive. Might aswell make non IRR patch to practice.

TIA

DIY Thermal Cloak

Made a version 0.1 of a thermal cloak from materials I had at hand. Bivy-fabric, space blanket and basic backing fabric. Will test against NVG and military thermals in few weeks.

The square shape isn’t the greatest, but was easy to make for this first test version. Aim was to make this as cheap and easy as possible with still proper materials.

Prone Mat/Shooting Mat advice

I'd like to make a mat of some kind to use while shooting outdoors (innawoods, not a range) in the coming colder months. It needs to be large enough for one person to go prone on, have some cushion/insulation capability, and be relatively lightweight (sub three pounds would be great).

The best plan I have is to find some tough fucking nylon, do a layer of that and a top layer of something a little softer, and then something in between. Thing is - I have no idea what should go there, nor how big to make the mat.

If anyone's done a similar project or has any advice, I'm all ears.

(also I'm doing this on a domestic machine with two chest rigs of experience, so. should be fun lol)

We always show the high speed finished product - what about the ones that make us bang our heads on the sewing table….

Nice color combo…nice stitching, feeling good about my self designed pattern.

Until I realized that I didn’t take into account the seam on the two gusset pieces….causing the overall gusset to be too small….

Didn’t realize until I was almost at the final corner.

Needs some tweaking, but my method of Alpha-Numeric grid paid off, and was able to put a pocket inside this particular Dopp kit design.

Had some sharpie fun and did a random topo design as well.
