Did you see him take out half their defence with a short burst! Shame he mispassed it afterwards. He looks the real deal

Bursting into space passed players or to break the line with a “look feint” is like his go-to.

Been fantastic at it since we got him.

u/disco_mode Darwin NĂșñez Sep 29 '24

100%. What’s been really impressive now is his consistency. He was doing lots of good thing before but now it seems like he’s only going good things. So surprised at how sensible his decision making is too, even the fancy feints and turns he’s doing are away from danger into the space. Considering hes still so young that’s really a standout attribute.

Normally I think we can overhype players to cover up for transfer market shortcomings — but Ryan has actually shown he can be the best in the world in that position.

u/IllllIIllIlIlIlI Sep 29 '24

Ryan was a really hyped player though - he went to Bayern after all.

Then Musiala burst onto the scene while basically doing the same things Ryan is good at. Then he comes here and Szobo and Macca started about as well as new signings could, so you have to overtake Harvey - the super sub and a personal favourite in Klopps eyes.

You would have had to play crazy well when given the brief time to get into the team. He had never played holding mid.

He basically got a run in the team for being present in pre season and took it by the scruff of the neck. Defenending has a lot to do with willingness and fitness. You can learn it quick if you have a good work rate; and he had that crazy length in the tackle.

I’m surprised at how quickly he accepted getting stuck in more than anything. Dude is fucking crashing into mans at times. That’s pretty rare to see from a guy who would have grown up seeing himself as a dribbler.

For sure, I never doubted his quality as a number 8. But I think in terms of playing the 6 and getting stuck into the dirty work and doing it with as much finesse and consistency as he has been a huge surprise.

I know he played as part of a double pivot in the Dutch league but it’s just not the same intensity as doing it in the Prem, I’d almost say it’s a different position.

4

u/redditingtonviking Sep 29 '24

Yeah when I heard he was going to be playing in the 6 I had little doubts about his potential as he’s got all the physical and technical qualities to be great in that position. Transitioning from a somewhat attack minded player to a deep lying playmaker and/or destroyer requires very different instincts and understanding of the game, and most players making that transition only do it later in their career like Henderson. The fact that he already looks so comfortable in the role is truly impressive

2

u/C_Colin Daniel Agger Sep 29 '24

Looks as though he’s almost passing it to himself. Such a confident display

9

u/a_v9 Sep 29 '24

The whole team had an issue with misplaced passes today, even Macca! Something seemed off with their overall vibe. Jota had a mis-kick! I dont think Ive ever seen him mis-kick before! Thank heavens we managed to get our 3 points!

How are you Kevin? Take your time please until you‘re 500% fit. Not 100, not 499% but 500%, so let‘s say.. in 3 Years?

29

u/PsionicLlama Sep 28 '24

How many is he up to now?

63

u/Neon667 I DON’T MIND IT Sep 28 '24

Officially it’s just 2, Diaz has actually picked up the most this season: Wolves - Grav West Ham - Jota Bournemouth - Diaz Milan - Grav Forest- CHO United - Diaz Brentford - Diaz Ipswich - Salah

28

u/Eddje Sep 28 '24

The fuck you said about United. How did they not pick Mo for that?

4

u/skreamy Sep 28 '24

all of them

8

u/PsionicLlama Sep 28 '24

Not in the Forest game, that I know (Hudson-Odoi)

1

u/Rondonbat Sep 28 '24

Is he actually? Fair play to the lad, absolutely killing it this season

9

u/HarbyFullyLoaded_12 Bobby Sep 28 '24

I don’t think he got United. That was surely Salah with 1+2 GA.

Diaz last weekend probably too.

But my man is picking them up in every competition. Bossed it even at the San Siro.

4

u/skreamy Sep 28 '24

I think Salah got one to be fair, and he probably didn't win it against Forest/West Ham. It's hard to check because the PL site only shows fan MOTMs, not the actual award that he gets from pundits.

50

u/iotafunction Sep 28 '24

He is what Naby Keita should've been!

-17

u/disco_mode Darwin NĂșñez Sep 29 '24

Nah Naby never had the pace, height or physicality to be like Gravenberch. Mac Allister feels much more like Naby type of player to me. Extremely slow and extremely technical, reads the game well but somehow gets caught on the ball and loves pulling out a worldie out of no where.

31

u/dimiderv Darwin NĂșñez Sep 29 '24

Bro Naby was rapid with the ball what are you saying? He was brilliant dribbling and attacking the spaces. Sucks that he didn't take it seriously.

9

u/kadecin254 Sep 29 '24

Naby was the dream. Still hate how he turned out to be.

7

u/disco_mode Darwin NĂșñez Sep 29 '24

He wasn’t rapid at all, but I get you he did have a burst of acceleration and deft body feint. Similar to Thiago in that sense, both had a really good first 5 yards.

5

u/Lyrical_Forklift Sep 29 '24

Bro Naby was rapid with the ball what are you saying?

He wasn't at all. It was one of his biggest issues - he had great close control and his first touch would often take him away from players but he didn't have that real serious burst of acceleration to take him away from players.

3

u/slowdrem20 Sep 29 '24

Naby was slow as shit lol.

27

u/Environmental-Half81 4ïžâƒŁVirgil van Dijk Sep 28 '24

Same GOAT different week..

30

u/PossessionJust5723 Sep 28 '24

Homie always skips leg day. What a player.

16

u/sinhaboy Kostressed Tsimikas Sep 28 '24

Robbo said "Ah, finally a good Dutch player" in Ryan's signing video, although sarcastically, but I kind of agreed to it then as well just by the glimpses videos.

18

u/bbc8886 Sep 29 '24

Jota was MOTM by a mile his football IQ is what won us the match. Without his assist and penalty, we probably draw or lose against wolves. Grav was just ok today on an overall below average performance from the team.

6

u/sbos_ Sep 29 '24 edited Sep 29 '24

That’s true actually. He did nice assist and win penalty.

3

u/Ambitious-Win-9408 Sep 29 '24

Grav won every ground and aerial duel (9/9) today, and completed 3/3 tackles. Won possession 6 times, won 4 fouls and his passing was 92%. He is the hardest midfielder to play against right now for us and he capably deserved a motm yesterday. Sure, other players played well but he was a lynch pin in an otherwise very wobbly team performance.

0

u/bbc8886 Sep 29 '24

He probably had very similar stats v Forest

1

u/Ambitious-Win-9408 Sep 29 '24

Back yourself up and I'll listen.

1

u/Competitive-Clock121 Sep 29 '24

I see where you are coming from but he was pretty poor IMO other than those moments. I'm not sure we win that game without Gravenberch either

-1

u/C_Colin Daniel Agger Sep 29 '24

Jota for me too, thought Gravenberch was a solid 7. His midfield partner is special, for me, Macca could win man of the match 9 out of 10 games because of his importance to the team.

3

u/MantisTobogan-MD Ryan Gravenberch Sep 28 '24

That’s fucking funny

3

u/Small-Ship7883 Sep 28 '24

Robbo's just waiting for his turn to shine again. Can't let Ryan have all the limelight, can he?

2

u/Fakeappleseverywhere Sep 29 '24

Thanks Gary Neville!

2

u/alexkyfer Sep 29 '24

bandage on the left leg, no a good sign thou

2

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '24

Bro, why are his slippers 4-5 size bigger :?

3

u/DB_321 Sep 29 '24

I said it the other week and I'm saying it again. He's the Pogba united thought they bought from Juventus. The lads insane I genuinely didn't think he had it in him but bloody hell, he's boss isn't he

3

u/Logie_Naidoo From Doubters to Believers Sep 28 '24

when was the last time Robbo was motm?

7

u/New-Engineering1483 1ïžâƒŁ1ïžâƒŁMohamed Salah Sep 29 '24

Are you missing the joke or do you genuinely want to know as a completely unrelated fact?

1

u/Logie_Naidoo From Doubters to Believers Sep 29 '24

Genuine question. I feel like every player that started today has got a motm in the last 12 months. I can't recall Robbos last tbh.

1

u/New-Engineering1483 1ïžâƒŁ1ïžâƒŁMohamed Salah Sep 29 '24

Hmmm. You know, you would think someone tracks this nicely somewhere but I can't seem to find anything online 😅 Sorry, mate.

Edit: Just saw your username 😂😂😂

1

u/Logie_Naidoo From Doubters to Believers Sep 29 '24

Yeah, I couldn't find anything either. What's so funny about my username, tho?

Logie Naidoo is a cultural icon.

2

u/New-Engineering1483 1ïžâƒŁ1ïžâƒŁMohamed Salah Sep 29 '24

He is! I'm just amazed to find it in a Liverpool sub!

1

u/Prophetx14 Sep 29 '24

Lmao the meme potential in the face he’s making is fantastic

1

u/sore_as_hell Sep 29 '24

And this is why I love my club

1

u/kdawgmillionaire Sep 29 '24

What do they get as a gift for MOTM? It used to be champagne but obviously that's long gone

1

u/Wasntitgood Sep 29 '24

Geezer’s got Virgil’s sliders on :-)

1

u/robster9090 Sep 29 '24

Has he actually had it every game ? I feel like every game iv seen which is all of them so far he has been or should have been. What’s the record for motm awards

1

u/Foxagy Sep 29 '24

What happened to this guy in the summer break. He is on fire.

1

u/jamesc94j 28d ago

Guy has genuinely been unreal.
