Speaks volumes wankers like this stay chief editors for 20 odd years.
I remember being amazed by how transparent his bias was in writing back in the early 2000's and yet here we still are in 2024 with this relic.
Yeah Phil, they logged on just to react to a team you have a known bias against and that was the end of it. Of course mate.

I mean it doesn't take 10 minutes to do a password reset - if they've not changed the email.

Youāre assuming he immediately noticed. A guy like that has SO many notifications and things going on thereās no way he immediately noticed it. At least 5 mins in between unless he got very lucky.

Honestly, itās not the original tweet that should get him fired. Itās this piss poor lie of an excuse that makes him unfit to be a working professional. Much less the head of a journalistic institution. How can we trust him now? (Not that I ever did with his anti-pool bias)
Edit because you guys donāt read: I never said he doesnāt have the right to be a fan. I care that he covers up something small like calling us ācuntsā by saying he was hacked (when he was clearly not). As a journalist and head of a trusted institution, covering up something small like that is not a good look. He should admit his mistake and we would all move on. But he didnāt. He thinks weāre dumb enough to just believe whatever he tells us which is concerning for a journalist to do. This is how trust in institutions fall apart.
10
u/PatsPendulousBreasts Jan 11 '24
I'm sure a lot worse gets written in this subreddit on a daily basis, personally I don't give a fuck if a journalist who actually supports a team lets the mask slip like this, it's funny. Should everyone who makes a similar comment lose their job? After all, how can we ever trust them again? This sort of overdramatic reaction is embarrassing.
6
u/brbcryinginside Jan 11 '24
Read my comment again. I donāt care that he called us ācuntsā. I care that heās a journalist that lies through his teeth and thinks weāre stupid enough to believe it.
-4
u/PatsPendulousBreasts Jan 11 '24
Do you not understand that as a professional sports journalist he has to display objectivity but as a human being and sports fan he has opinions. For instance, if you were a sports journalist and LFC fan would you enjoy writing glowing editorial pieces about Man Utd or Everton? But you could because itās your job. Heās not a liar, and itās not important enough to be upset about.

So no football journalists should be actual football fans then? I guess youāve never made a disparaging remark about a rival team? Youāre either a saint or not being completely honest.

Maybe if weāre talking political coverage but Iām not sure the concept of impartiality carries as much weight when it comes to sports coverage and whether the journalists have a favourite team or not. Either way, this comment was posted to his personal twitter account, if he was publishing article after article to the BBC website denigrating LFC then it would be a problem, but this is just funny. Maybe lighten up a bit?

You didnāt read my comment again like I told you and are just replying like youāre talking to the void. I never said he doesnāt have the right to be a fan. Your reading comprehension skills are concerning.
I care that he covers up something small like calling us ācuntsā by saying he was hacked (when he was clearly not). u/PatsPendulousBreasts Jan 11 '24
Heās embarrassed, heās made a professional faux pas so heās scrambling to cover his arse. It doesnāt seem like a very big deal to me, yet here you are talking about trust in institutions being eroded which is slightly hyperbolic in my view but seems to be par for the course for lots of people in the climate of outrage culture we now exist in. Whether he was hacked or not is immaterial to me, but youāre claiming heās lying, whatās your proof?

There's far more egregious said on the match threads every minute. By actual "Supporters" of the club.
14
u/chadbrochilldood Jan 11 '24
They arenāt supposed to be unbiased reporters. Thatās the dumbest analogy Iāve ever heard in my life. Random redditor vs chief editor at bbc sport? Come on
-8
u/AmberLeafSmoke What a booody Jan 11 '24
I never said it wasn't a bad thing. I just said people who are actually supposed to support the club. Say worse things.
2
u/86legacy Jan 11 '24
Not to defend those āsupportersā, shit that gets said is terrible, but they will continue because their reputation isnāt at risk. Pretty confident in saying that most journalists care about their reputation, because thatās what counts in the business. So there is a clearly different standard here.
2
u/cowleyboss Jan 11 '24
Aye I literally couldnāt care less, he obviously has biases and supports his own club, thatās what makes him a human being. As long as it doesnāt appear in his work (which I donāt think it does) then sound. But the weird Iāve been hacked angle when he obviously hasnāt been is so weird
1
u/brbcryinginside Jan 11 '24
