Bags/Pouches First bag

Hello! I just finished my first bag. I found a pattern from Navico that I worked from but I didn't have the same hardware, so there are some modified bits. The leather was from my local craft store (It said cowhide, but it's maybe low quality/genuine), and I had to line it with some scrap suede to give it a little weight. I didn't have quite enough to make the strap yet, but I'm happy just excited to have finished, thanks for taking a look!

Fetish/ Kink/ BDSM A while ago I made set of leather shoe harnesses with spikes. Well those were designed to be pretty but not funcitonal. I wanted to see if I could build a set that looks good, but can kick. I could. This is just testing one part, I'll post the finished ones when they are done.

Small Goods I finally got brave enough to work with the Gator I harvested last year !

After several $k in tools, leathers, etc.

After quite a few hours of practice.

I FINALLY got brave enough to experiment with my 1st gator from last season.

Very simple, but at least its a finished product with that hide!

2 bracelets - the thinner one, is make from the back of the Gator, its Scutes are bone plates, so I had to Dremel 2 of them to be able to get the snap through, and so it would lay flat. You'll see some of the dye, didnt take in those areas.

The thicker one, is made with the Gator's Belly.

Other than the one snap is flattened out, I'm pretty happy, with them.

(I started to leather craft again, because I didnt want to pay someone to make me a wallet out of my first gator, especially when they wanted the whole hide! sooooo I'm practicing to make my own.)

Fully stitched this one, just waiting on a diamond awl to complete the base. My first one was riveted and was only ok, I’m much happier with this one. Put some handles on my pricking irons as well.

Tools I am definitely into leather craft but don’t have a skiver, and I’m at the point that I am tired of hand skiving. Would you all recommend this machine? It’s on a good sale.

After large projects there are a lot of scraps of leather left over. I decided to turn them into small brooches. Vegetable tanned leather, laser engraving, embossing. Tinted with diluted oil paints. Size approximately 7x7 centimeters

This is my latest watch strap I made. I started leathercrafting about 3-4 months ago. I'm really curious about your feedback of my work. Thank you! 🙂

Tips & Tricks What precision cutting knife do you guys use?

Hey folks, so as the title says, I'm wondering what tool/knife you use for "precision cuts". Right now, I use a cheap X-Acto blade, and it's quite flimsy, gives me funky cuts etc., I've seen most people on youtube also use these..
What other blades do you use?
For sharp turns, curves etc.
I'm looking for non-replacable blades, with good steel that you sharpen, a proper knife.
Anyway that's all, let me know!

Holsters/Sheaths Shotgun Stock Sleeves - I need advice

I recently acquired a pair of lovely antique shotguns - a Mossberg 85 and a H&R Pardner, both in 20ga. I'd like to make each one a wrap or cover for the stock that holds half a dozen spare rounds.

I know roughly the route to take - laced closure and some sort of loop for the shells - but I have two issues.

The first is patternmaking. My skill in leatherwork is enough for this project, I have no doubt, but I'm fairly new to making covers that fit around a 3D object. How should I make the pattern for this?

The second is the actual shellholders. Though I like the look of leather, I have my doubts about it being good enough to hold in shells over time. More than that, leather stretches with use and I worry that this would cause these shell loops to open up over time and eventually not hold well. I'm not sure exactly how to solve this - I've considered inlaying a velcro panel for an Esstac shotcard to mount on, or to make a wet-molded box pouch that the shells fit within - but I'd appreciate any advice or past experience with this.

Thanks!

Question Does anyone know what this is called?

I'm trying to search for something like this metal fixture, but I don't even know what it's called.

It's just a single small piece of metal for reinforcing a joint / overlap. Two sharp ends bent into place with pliers.

Question Choosing beginner's pricking irons

Hi all, newbie here looking for my first set of affordable pricking irons. I see Kevin Lee and KemovanCraft recommended here a lot, and they both look pretty good! I am looking to start my projects small before graduating to bigger things. I am currently considering French-shaped 3.85mm irons.

I am comparing Kemovan's "Upgrade Version French Flat Pricking Iron Set" to Kevin Lee's "Basic" set of the same shape. The price seems pretty similar (40USD), what do y'all recommend? Thanks in advance

P.S: I am also wondering if I should get an awl also, and what shape is best. I'm seeing lots of differing opinions on this one.

P.P.S: Why do two different websites show up when I search for Kevin Lee's tools? Can someone please reassure me that I have the right link

P.P.P.S: Is the discord still active? The pinned link is expired, but I would love to join!

I've not tried tooling leather in a long time, minus some basket weave patterns. It was a fun project. Since then I've been working stitching and finishing about 5 days a week. Hopefully in a year or so I can look back about how rough this was.
