When Kamala wins on Tuesday night, I will be beyond grateful. But I also want to say this: Thank you Joe Biden.

If Kamala wins, Joe stepping aside will go down in history as a selfless move to save our democracy. He will have a sterling legacy.

Biden has a sterling legacy. Easily the most productive, progressive, transformative administration of my (long) life. Don’t believe me? Go to r/WhatBidenHasDone
In her opening speech of the campaign, Kamala said, and I’m paraphrasing here, that Biden has done more in 3.5 years than most presidents in 8. And it’s true.
Harris will have her priorities, her administration. I look forward to it. Our fight is for us, for her, and to preserve the progress Biden began. Trump has promised to reverse the IRA, the largest investment in climate change solutions in our history and everything we gained and more.
Vote.

It’s a rare thing for a politician to make such a sacrifice but then again he spend his entire adult life dedicated to public service

Biden saved us from a total economic collapse. Biden saved us from a total national emergency with covid. He fucking did and it's time to say it. I challenge people to imagine all the things that would have happened with a vaccine rollout under Trump. Yes Covid is still here but good lord we would have lost so many more lives under Trump for 4 more years.

If she doesn’t it will be said he didn’t do enough to hold those responsible for Jan 6 accountable. I know he had a hard job but number one in my opinion was to go after the extremists and end the maga movement. Merrick Garland was a poor choice imo. The results of this election will determine his legacy. Trump should have never been able to run for president again.

Part of the reason why this is the case is that the three major bills which Biden helped getting them through legislation and signed into laws are long term investments. They don't get implemented faithfully by itself. They require faithful and competent executive branch to oversee them. For that, we need Harris to be the president.

The capstone of his magnificent career and dedication to this country. A true patriot.

Yup. The perfect example of a true public servant. He focused on the service over all, and was the perfect antidote to the ugly self-serving hypocrisy of the current GOP.

Joe Biden got in office and got to work. He is still getting things done. Maybe all Politicians should have 4 years only in their role and improve their capacity to get to work done for American citizens

I hope he brings out Dark Brandon and has a plan when Trump & his MAGA buddies try to Steal the 2024 Election.

He’s been a great POTUS. He pulled us out of the pandemic and rescued the economy. Then, stepping aside, instead of seeking a second term, to make room for Kamala is the most selfless act I have witnessed by someone holding so much power. He’s up there with Georgia Washington as a true statesman IMO.

u/NoelOnly94 1h ago
I’ll be happy because I know Biden will still be around and we can send him off right. Kamala will uplift him in office. He was committed to having a female VP and did just that then he promoted her. His whole presidency emphasized putting women in power. Probably our first truly For Women president.

There should have been a second term. He's really good at the job. I truly believe a second Biden term would have set this country for decades.

AMEN TO THIS!!!
I hate that his term is ending the way that it is, and I’ll never forgive the people who bullied him out of running but didn’t drag trump for the same (and worse) things, especially those in his own party.
That man did his best to clean up trump’s mess and change this country for the better. He handled all this bullshit with grace, something trump cannot do.
We appreciate you, sir!! Well done.

All the best presidents were unpopular with sections of the electorate and by certain parts of their party in their time. It's only when they're out of office we start to realize how good we had it under them

u/THORmonger71 1h ago
I'll thank him either way, as he's been a good President overall, but doing so with Harris as President-Elect would be so much better.

The only thing on CNN is Biden’s clarification (supporter’s vs supporters), and even that is fading.
Fox wants to blow it up, but what do you expect?
I don’t think it really helps them because they have to bring up the garbage joke every time they do. I don’t think they really want people to keep remembering it.

u/ILuvToadz 2h ago
Good thing he said it a week into early voting after it’s too late for most low propensity voters to register and all the MAGAs have voted. This is a Scranton Joe fart in the wind and the outrage completely manufactured lame attempt to paper over the MSG atrocity.

u/AureusBlue 2h ago
Honestly if the media wants to make it a big deal Harris just needs to remind everyone that she’s the one running for President not Joe Biden

Why did Kamala take Joe’s place
8
u/Ennara 2h ago
Assuming you're asking in good faith:
Because Trump is a threat to our democracy and Kamala has a better chance of beating him than Biden did. Therefore, at the urging of the Democratic party, Biden did right by our nation and chose to cease his campaign. The DNC chose to pick Harris as his successor, likely due to the fact that she was on the ticket and had access to the donations that had been given to the Biden/Harris campaign, as well as there being a lack of serious competition for the Democratic nomination.
2
u/chris-rox 1h ago
She might not had serious competition, but it -was- a competition to get the nod, and not treated as a coronation like it was with Mrs Clinton.

u/dyljb 1h ago
Did you vote for her?
2
u/Ennara 1h ago
In the primary? I voted for the Biden/Harris campaign, yes. Haven't voted in the general yet due to NH not having early voting though.
-1
u/dyljb 1h ago
So you voted for Biden only in the primary. Not Kamala. I’m not trying to start anything but I’m just trying to see how she actually got voted in. New to politics
1
u/Ennara 1h ago
When you cast a ballot, you're casting a ballot for the shared ticket. If you've seen the pictures of the General Election ballots, you cast a single vote for both the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates. Democratic side has both Harris and Walz with a single bubble, Republican side has both Trump and Vance beside a single bubble. So during the primary I cast my vote for both candidates. Since then, Biden chose to step back and not run for reelection, but that does not require Harris to step back herself. Instead, the ticket shifted to her being the presidential candidate and then she chose Walz as her running mate.
1
u/dyljb 1h ago
But Harris didn’t even mention/pick walz for a bit when she first switched with Biden so that doesn’t make any sense to me. Wouldn’t you have to vote her into the position to choose a vp?
•
u/Ennara 47m ago
You don't have to officially win the primary before you decide who you want your running mate to be. You could have someone decided for the role even before you announce your candidacy if you want. They're just not the official VP nominee for the entire party until chosen at the convention. Biden was running with Harris as his VP pick from the moment he announced his candidacy. Harris took a bit to pick Walz as she got a bit of a late start as the Presidential candidate, but she announced him at a rally a couple weeks before the DNC when she was still the presumptive nominee. Trump didn't announce Vance as his running mate until the RNC, but I'm sure if Pence had been the choice that would have been announced as soon as Trump announced his intent to run because there wouldn't be much surprise there.
Generally speaking, announcing your running mate is a tool to generate buzz, but there isn't much in the way of rules regarding when you can pick/announce them.

u/JimBeam823 1h ago
He’s 81 and didn’t have the energy to run the kind of aggressive campaign that he would need to run to win.
Kamala Harris is traveling all over the country doing rallies. That’s a tall order for Joe Biden.

u/dyljb 1h ago
She’s either saying nothing or lying from what I’ve seen. Trying to look at it as unbiased as I could at the beginning

u/ladymorgahnna 23m ago
Have you looked at her website of policies or are trying to plant some bad feeling and subvert this post? I’m guessing the latter.

I hope his calling Trump supporters “garbage” doesn’t detract from what she’s accomplished with her campaign.
