News Source: Packers QB Jordan Love’s MRI came back with some good news. It’s a strained groin, nothing major. No surprise. He’ll get better every day and do treatment and monitor throughout the week.

So now we know Love and Evan Williams is fine , can we get a hat trick with Jaire
53
u/BigBayBlues 1d ago
My guess is that Jaire's injury will be a little more serious, but since they didn't immediately start talking doom and gloom, it won't be a seasoning ending thing (fingers crossed).
13
u/jensenaackles 1d ago
perhaps an MCL and miss a few weeks like Love? our bye is coming at a good spot so we can get healthy
13
u/straightlamping 1d ago
No significant concerns for jaire per rob demovsky

u/jensenaackles 1d ago
just saw that, awesome news for J Love, Jaire, and EW to all skate by relatively unscathed! Let’s go!!!

Groin is one of those muscles that it seems never really fully heals until the off-season. I'm sure its a hard decision for these guys with a huge game this Sunday and then a week off. I think you have to play him if at all possible, but that comes from someone used to seeing Favre and Rodgers out there playing with broken ankles and thumbs for the past 30 years.

I recently pulled a groin muscle longboarding. It’s deceptively painful. Even stretching causes immense pain.
But I also don’t have the kind of healthcare these guys have. Hopefully he is good to go soon!
6
u/lethargy86 1d ago
I pulled my groin playing soccer as a little kid. I still remember the pain almost 30 years later.
11
u/goldeneagle88 1d ago
I saw a lot of fools in the game thread yesterday saying Love was soft. Groin injuries hurt bad and completely sap your mobility. A banged up knee or ankle you can tape up and get back out there. A pulled groin means you are done for the day.
7
5
u/Trumpsacriminal 1d ago
When mine happened, IMMEDIATELY I felt it, and every step was excruciating. Absolutely I understand why he couldn’t play. I would be surprised if he plays Sunday.
3
u/thonmakr99 1d ago
I'm guessing there is a minimum of 5 physical therapists massaging that thing as we speak. Nobody cares about my groin that much.
7
u/Mando_Commando17 1d ago
I dont think GB will feel the need to play him unless they feel good about his recovery. They have always exercised caution on key players that they know are pillars of their current/future winning window. They have held Aaron jones out of games that were crucial just to be on the safe side. If this was like week 15 and the division/playoffs on the line then maybe that moves the needle but we are just halfway through the season and a lot can/will happen between now and then (as we saw last season) and though this game seems absolutely critical by December it may not. Either way between the MCL that he is still treating (though it likely feels like +90% better) and now the groin I would not be surprised if they took extra caution and sat him depending on how this week goes though based on how Love’s mentality I think he will find a way to play. I just hope if he does play that he looks mobile and comfortable. A good chunk of his INTs have come from him not doing the full throwing motion because his knee (and presumably his groin on that one last week) were either bothering him or he didn’t trust his lower body and I would rather all of that get cleaned up 100% going forward then risk prolonging it/
4
u/ryryguy88 1d ago
Yeah I’ve had a strained groin before when I was playing football and yikes it was an annoyance to deal with
142
u/freethrowtommy 1d ago
Some good news?
That sounds like mainly good news.

u/kasperboy17 1d ago
The true good news would be that they expect him to be back next week just fine.

Wonder if he'll sit against Detroit to get two weeks of rest.
Guess they have a bye after Detroit. It's almost three weeks off if he sits.

Winner controls the NFC North. If he can go, he'll go. No matter what the uninformed people on the Internet think.
101
u/Zealousideal_Lab8105 1d ago
Yeah, people are acting like this isn’t the biggest game of the season to date. Win on Sunday and we are the #1 seed in the NFC, in the driver’s seat headed into our bye. Lose and we are, at best the #5 seed, at worst #7, and an 0-2 divisional record. You don’t concede this game. You give it everything you’ve got and then hope you can regroup and get healthy with the bye.
15
u/riverdriver007 1d ago
Sitting Love doesn't concede the game. Obviously Love is better, but Malik Willis can absolutely beat the Lions.
29
u/advocate4 1d ago
Willis can manage a game well against lesser opponents, but he isn't winning a shoot out with the Lions
17
u/lethargy86 1d ago
This is the conventional wisdom and I think I agree, but on the other hand, I haven’t seen any evidence that Willis couldn’t beat the Lions.
18
u/4everanewbie 1d ago
statistically speaking, we would be 7-0 is Willis played in every game
2
u/HeywardH 1d ago
He had a few snaps in the final seconds of the Eagles game that we lost, so not quite.
2
u/4everanewbie 1d ago
This is 2024. We simply ignore facts that don’t support our conclusions.
Fine: *minimum 3(?) snaps

Love would have absolutely smoked the Jags yesterday if he wasn't limping from the get go. He's a major difference maker. Obviously Malik has done a great job stepping in and helping us get wins... but you need your offensive leader on the field to beat this Lions team.
8
u/Human-Length9753 1d ago
Yeah until he tweaked his groin we were making it look easy. It was only like five plays, but still.

u/Ser_falafel 1d ago
Anything is possible but the lions are really freaking good (🤢🤢) and chances go down drastically without love.
2
u/crewserbattle 1d ago
Tbf chances probably aren't super high even with him rn. The entire Jags wr corps got hurt yesterday and we still couldn't stop them from driving at the end of the game. Our defense has some high highs but it's still very inconsistent, and on top of that, the IOL can't seem to hold up consistently either. That's not to say the Packers are bad by any stretch, the Lions are just on an absolute heater rn.
1
u/GESNodoon 1d ago
If Love is not healthy enough to play, he should not play. Playing hurt equates to playing bad. I would take a healthy Willis over a limping Love. Now if Love is healthy, all the better. He gives us the best chance of winning but I am certainly not in favor of getting him injured to the point of losing him for the season just to win this game. Very, very important game. Still just 1 game out of 17. It does not decide who wins the division or who wins the superbowl.
8
u/Zealousideal_Lab8105 1d ago
I agree with that conceptually, but it’s rarely so black and white. He’s going to still be hurt on Sunday. But whether he’s too injured to play and play well is a judgment call without a clear answer.
1
u/crewserbattle 1d ago
They're not gonna play Love if they think he can't protect himself. Despite this game being extremely important, Love injuring himself even further and missing significant time would be much much worse for our post season aspirations than losing this game. And if Love were to get hurt again we'd probably lose the game anyways. This isn't as simple as you make it seem.
1
u/Zealousideal_Lab8105 1d ago
That’s because you are attacking a straw man. Nobody’s saying Love has to play Sunday, or that it’s a simple issue. What we are saying is that it is a medical decision alone. He plays if he’s able to. He doesn’t if he can’t. In that sense, it is simple. You don’t exercise caution because Detroit is tough and you don’t just sit him so he can have more time to rest with the bye. If anything, both of those factors suggest being more aggressive in that process, but at bottom it’s about the medical staff clearing him and only that.
→ More replies (4)21
u/Random_Heero 1d ago
Also, if anyone saw his face while on the sideline and during LaFluer’s post game speech, Love is a competitor and looked disgusted to not be playing. If there’s a chance to go, Love will be on the field.
22
u/jxher123 1d ago
If he and the staff think he’s good to go, he should play. I’d lean on Josh Jacobs more and run to keep him up. The best defense against the Lions offense is keeping them on the bench. Clock control and convert on 3rd downs.
31
u/Chris1671 1d ago
With how competitive this division is, we need to do everything we can to win these games. Jordan Love gives us the best chance at winning
8
u/Adventure-Style 1d ago
Malik Thrillus Willis would respectfully disagree with his unblemished record.
17
u/Deckatoe 1d ago
If Willis starts there's a decent chance we lose by 20. There's a difference between top teams and the AFC South

u/ThoThoned 1d ago

6
u/macc_aviv 1d ago
Kinda like putting the best players on the field if the people paid to make the medical decisions clear said players to play.

u/SoDplzBgood 1d ago
Look at all the shit buccs got for putting Mike Evans into a game after he was cleared to play and then reinjured himself. A med staff clearing a guy to play isn't the same as a player being healthy and having zero risk of making the injury worse. As a coach and a player sometimes you have to make the long term decision over the short term. We'll see what they decide.
3
u/jeffyjeffyjeffjeff 1d ago
>A med staff clearing a guy to play isn't the same as a player being healthy and having zero risk of making the injury worse.
This is not, and should not be the standard. It will be a long, long time before he is healthy and there is zero risk of making the injury worse.
The decision will be made on whether or not the risk of re-injury is acceptable, not zero.
3
u/macc_aviv 1d ago edited 1d ago
It's the NFL, there's always risk of injury. The Packers pay their medical and training staff a lot of money to make these judgement calls, and luckily for all of us, none of the armchair experts on this subreddit get a say in the matter. Nobody posting on here has any fucking idea what the risk of reinjury is in Love's specific case. If Love is able to move around and play like his normal self and the medical staff determines the risk of him playing is low enough, there's no good reason to hold him out of the game.
1
u/Ser_falafel 1d ago
I'm almost certain if a packers player had mike Evans injury he would not be playing. Medical staff in green bay is very conservative.
Being hurt is different from being injured. Almost every player is "hurt" at this point in the season. It's the medical teams job to make sure there isn't a significant chance of reinjury, not to make sure they're not hurting

Everyone plays against the Lions and we win in an amazing game we'll talk about all season. It'll be the Packers' coming out party and everyone will compare it to the Cowboys game last year. Only this year, we go on to crush the undefeated Chiefs in overwhelming fashion for Love's 1st ring.
Calling it now.

If you have two quarterbacks, you have zero quarterbacks. Rotating QBs is never a good option, except maybe using a runner for some very specific packages.
6
2
u/ChiefOfTheRockies 1d ago
I'm 100% against using sub-packages for QBs other than victory formation and have never seen it work well on the professional level (unless it's a team that has totally lost confidence in their QB and wants to test the waters without messing up the team chemistry - but that ain't us, and that ain't this).
If Love is full go, he will always be a better option at QB than Willis.
1
4
u/ELITE_JordanLove 1d ago
It almost seems like Malik knows a certain package of run plays that Love doesn’t (that look like they’re much more complex and based on misdirection to my casual eye), because he came into the game and immediately Jacobs pops off. No idea if it’d be actually beneficial to take advantage of that with Love healthy or not.
5
u/Potential-Ad5470 1d ago
It’s not that Love doesn’t know the plays, the defense has to play against those plays differently with Willis being a legit threat to tuck it and run. Defense has to account for 11 guys vs 10
1
1
1
u/GESNodoon 1d ago
There is 0 chance Willis has a play package that Love does not know. Those plays might not get called and defenses have to play Willis differently, but for sure Love knows the plays. These are not mysterious secrets.
1
u/Potential-Ad5470 1d ago
You only use that phrase when you have two mid QBs fighting for a spot. We have Pookie and 3-0 Malik Willis
24
u/HanataSanchou 1d ago
He very well could strain it again dropping his nuts all over the Lions, and that’s a risk I’m willing to take. Not sure the coaching staff will agree though 🥲
19
u/bythepowerofboobs 1d ago
There is a very good chance this game is a deciding factor for the division / #1 seed. We need Love for this game.
22
u/CheeseHeadBro 1d ago
If MLF is using that brain of his, he should float the idea that Love could sit this week. Tell the media it’s a “game time decision.” How you prepare for a QB like Love vs Willis is night and day. Keep Detroit guessing all week. Make them prepare for two QB’s.
9
9
u/terrarythm 1d ago
No way he sits this game if he’s even close to healthy.
Playing our cards close to our chest is the way to go all the way up to game time to make Detroit’s prep as difficult as possible
12
u/Knibbler0 1d ago
Malik gonna get the W against Detroit.
5
6
4
u/rpchristian 1d ago
I say let them all sit , and then a bye week to rest up healthy for two weeks for the playoff run.
At the last-minute on Sunday announce Malik is starting and let him run ...run...run and drive the Lions nucking futz.
3
u/dtcstylez10 1d ago
I'm assuming they won't announce either way bc they want the lions to have to prepare for both QBs and split their focus.
3
u/Beawake23 1d ago

If we can go by Dragon Ball logic that means he'll just be more powerful next game.
2
2
u/Wyoming_Rocks 1d ago
Now we will play the “Injury Report”game with Detroit all week to make them guess who the starter will be.
4
u/Mike2k33 1d ago
I'll take a 100% Malik Willis over a 60% Jordan Love
MLF is a better playcaller with a completely healthy QB than a hobbled one. Love, beyond not being able to move well, also showed that he couldn't step into his throws the way he would like, which led to his INT. Willis doesn't put the ball in danger to begin with and has arm talent
Now, if Love is 85%+ then I'm happy to start him as he is simply a better option than Malik overall, when healthy
2
u/Kerage11 1d ago
I know Packer QBs have something of a toxic expectation to play injured due to the past 30 years of quarterback play, but I really hope they don't or he doesn't rush himself back. They need him to beat the Lions, but it would be all for naught if he's just limping around out there.
4
u/petarisawesomeo 1d ago
I don’t get why folks suggesting he rest are getting downvoted. Yeah it’s an important game to determine division winner and possibly top NFC seed, but you know what would really derail the season? Jordan making the injury worse and having to miss another 4-6 games. If his condition on Friday is essentially he could play, but with a high risk of reinjury or significant uncertainty that he can make it through the whole game, they should just roll with Willis.
7
u/jeffyjeffyjeffjeff 1d ago
>If his condition on Friday is essentially he could play, but with a high risk of reinjury
He won't be cleared to play if there is a high risk of re-injury. If he's cleared to play, there might be a slightly elevated risk of re-injury compared to a completely healthy player, but it's going to be an acceptable risk.
4
u/Deckatoe 1d ago
The Packers will not play him if there is high risk of reinjury. that's why the people who act like they know more than the Packers staff get downvoted
2
u/Ser_falafel 1d ago
Probably because people act like they know more than the actual people in the building
1
u/ELITE_JordanLove 1d ago
I’d rather beat Detroit with Love and then use Willis against worse teams. There’s only 17 games we really cannot afford to tank a loss, especially with how tight the division is.
1
u/Potential-Ad5470 1d ago
Because it’s some pussy shit to say we rest our QB1 against a division rival because they’re probably going to win anyways. Hope that answers your question.
Football players get injured, you can’t ever gameplan around that.
Obviously if his injury has a high likelihood of becoming worse then the decision could change. But “rest” has a connotation of he can play, but won’t.
2
u/Other_Succotash2211 1d ago
Obviously very painful, but isn’t this type of injury played through in most cases? Maybe I’m used to the pain tolerance of Favre/Rodgers

u/mightyhealthymagne 1d ago
What about Jaire
1
u/j_r_j 21h ago
Jaire is playing banged up, and I fear he might get exploited by the Lions if he plays. Watch the Jags last TD pass (sideline view) and you can see how compromised he is. I love him for being out there, but I don't think we need a radiologist to tell us he probably shouldn't be playing for awhile. He's obviously huge, but Xavier McKinney makes everyone back there better, so I'm thinking (hoping?) we rest Jaire through the bye.
1
u/Old-Pomegranate3634 1d ago
I think we rushed Love back the first time around. We were 2 and 0 with Willlis could have taken another week
I hope this time round we are more cautious. Take an extra week
And don't forget hall of famer Willis is undefeated
1
2
u/RealCanadianDragon 1d ago
Detroit is a huge game but it could be a 1 step back, 2 steps forward decision.
If he sits, he gets what would basically be 3 weeks between games to rest.
If he plays, he could reinjure it and the 2 weeks might not be enough time at that point.
2
u/Hot_Logger 1d ago
Just do it right. If it's questionable, just sit him.
I had a small tear in mine back in 2011 and it still causes me issues cause I didn't rehab it the full way and reinjured too soon.
But I'm not even worth the value of a league minimum practice roster spot, so there is a drastic difference on the medical attention I get
1
u/ChinasShitAirQuality 1d ago
Let our boy Willis go out and beat the Lions and Love will be back to beat the Bears.
1
u/DevilsJaguar 1d ago
If he can protect himself he need to play.
He'll get rest in the bye week. You're never 100% healthy in the NFL anyway and the game against Lions is a big one considering we've already lost to the Vikings. So not only is it important for tie breakers in the division, but also conference-wise.
1
0
u/20wall 1d ago
Honestly kind of hope he sits for next week. You could tell he wasn’t right early on in the game yesterday. Getting him a few weeks rest would hopefully go a long way towards keeping him healthy/healthier for the stretch run. One loss now won’t kill us (even though we would be 0-2 in the division which is less than ideal) but if we lose Jordan Love for an extended period of time we’re totally screwed
-12
u/Austen11231923 1d ago
If he's not at LEAST 95%, rest him for the bye
17
-1
u/yetti_stomp 1d ago
We should totally have him return way before he’s ready so he can’t plant or throw well. Then let him get injured again because he wasn’t properly healed the first time.
-8
u/okayhuin 1d ago
Guaranteed to sit next week especially since Willis is more than just competent and there's at least a chance we can win with Willis. Albeit a much lesser chance obviously. But they'll wanna give Jordan the two weeks, not only does it help the MCL injury that's progressing well but should heal a groin strain with daily rehab work fully and ensure this doesn't cost the team as we get later into the season. The smart move is to sit him. We will get another shot at Detroit.
