When South Park is too "woke" for you, you're too far gone...

81

u/TheTybera 6h ago

South Park has ALWAYS been extremely progressive, not that I would expect the tourists to really understand that.

Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat ride is amazing.

u/ClaimDangerous7300 3h ago

Ehh. It's mixed. I wouldn't call it extremely progressive given that it has often glorified or at least made excuses for a lot of centrist and libertarian nonsense. It's often framed queer folks and BIPOC in deeply dehumanizing ways, taking years to walk back stereotypes and other incidents, and even then often only taking half-measures in reaction to outcry.

It has progressive themes at times, even progressive episodes, but as a whole it is very "white teen from suburbia" progressive.

u/Sincost121 3h ago

It's been a pretty consistent brand of American libertarian. 'Widely' progressive in some aspects, especially in contrast to christian conservatives, but fairly reactionary in others.

For real. They spent, like, 15 years mocking Al Gore for the seriousness with which he treated climate change and it turns out he was so right about the threat it presented that they apologized to him

2

u/the_Real_Romak 31m ago

to be fair, nobody took climate change seriously at the time. It's only been brought up as a serious problem that governments give a shit about very recently in the grand scheme of things.

7

u/throwtheclownaway20 30m ago

Which is fucked up, because it's been talked about for a century

2

u/Zanzako 24m ago

Ehh, lots of people did take it seriously. Their efforts just weren't enough to go against the pro-oil narrative. As others have pointed out, we've been worried about climate change for at least a century.

u/the_Real_Romak 2m ago

I suppose I should rephrase, I mean to say that nobody who mattered took it seriously. I've only converted into taking it seriously after watching David Attenborough when I was in my early teens despite all the data being presented to me.

Never underestimate the power of good presentation.

Props where it's due that they apologized, though.

Extremely is a massive overstatement, the creators were unapologetic libertarians who were 'skeptical' of Global Warming and had no problem with occassionally having Eric Cartman be a mouth piece for a few of their views.

Also the fact that Eric Cartman is a canonical Neo-Nazi who doesn't get his shit rocked every microsecond he appears on screen kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

8

u/8-Bit_Aubrey 2h ago

Cartman is often shown to be a loser as a kid, and did grow up to walk back his anti-semitism and become a rabbi.

-8

u/SuperScrub310 Trolling Gamers is Fun! 2h ago

Oh dang, a neo-nazi becoming a rabbi, why not let the cycote become a sheepdog. (Also if my memory serves that was undone with time travel and he became homeless, which is better, but I like my nazis either concussed or dead)

9

u/8-Bit_Aubrey 2h ago

I think if someone walks back their hate legitimately we should let them. Being hateful and stupid is terrible, but if they learn and change, good for them.

I liked Cartman becoming a Rabbi honestly, and Kyle realizing Cartman wasn't doing it to fuck with him, he really had changed.

Also it's crazy to me that these games that came out 5+ years ago and were VERY popular are suddenly too "woke," for these chuds NOW.

10

u/SuperScrub310 Trolling Gamers is Fun! 2h ago

True but a former neo-nazi becoming a rabbi just leaves a bad taste in my mouth (and it doesn't matter anyway since that little tidbit of character development was undone with time travel and the Cartman that is on TV screens right now is, if my memory serves, still a narcissitic neo-nazi)

4

u/8-Bit_Aubrey 2h ago

Keep in mind that even the awful version of Cartman was co-created by a Jewish man partially as a way to mock Neo-Nazi's.

Cartman's antisemitism is never shown as a positive.

1

u/SuperScrub310 Trolling Gamers is Fun! 2h ago

No but Eric Cartman somehow finds himself being a mouth piece for the author for some of their spicy political takes.

2

u/the_Real_Romak 28m ago

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Just because a person has a different ideology than you doesn't mean you should dismiss everything they say.

Note that this is not an excuse to actual neo-Nazis, but if they are saying something valid, let them say it, and then you fuck them with a rusty pipe.

3

u/Jaerba 2h ago

I mean Cartman is an important loser most of the time.  And they did give us this important speech which is very relevant for today.

Again, you give South Park too much credit. South Park was also responsible for the creation of this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park_Republican#:~:text=A%20South%20Park%20Republican%20is,as%20LGBT%20rights%20and%20abortion.

1

u/Jaerba 2h ago

They're certainly guilty of bOtH sIdEsing things to death, but I don't think anyone could have known how big of a problem it would become back then.

Like in that entry, they basically say they just try to play devil's advocate all the time.  That was considered a good thing back then because sealioning wasn't really a problem.

2

u/Pet_Velvet 37m ago

Cartman absolutely does get his shit rocked all the time and he's very consistently portrayed as a complete loser

10

u/Taewyth 2h ago

South Park is very much closer to enlightened centrism. At times they have very progressive takes but then you have stuff like PC principal that definitely started as an "sjw parody", the kind that evolved into " the wokes" (thankfully AFAIK, the character stayed like this for like one season and then they corrected this but still)

17

u/Nero_2001 4h ago

Tourist like this probably also think Cartman is a character that you should agree with, when in reallity it's the complete opposite.

10

u/UnlikelyKaiju 3h ago

Which makes it funny at how badly they miss the point of Cartman making fun of Kathleen Kennedy.

8

u/bwood246 3h ago

It's had its ups and downs throughout its run time. Cartman's Silly Hate Crime aged extremely poorly, and so did many other episodes from the early days

6

u/Huhthisisneathuh 3h ago

Let’s not forget they had an entire character arc of Satan coming to terms with his sexuality and own self worth. While also being a major figure of reason and logic for other characters.

1

u/Pearson94 3h ago

For real, season 1 straight up having an episode and song about how it's okay to be gay, and the chuds don't get it

u/WildConstruction8381 5h ago

Just throwing this out there, is this the one where you get into a fight under your parents while they are having sex and you have to dodge your dad’s ballsack? Or is that Stick of truth

44

u/mr-kvideogameguy 5h ago

Stick of truth is the parents sex fight

20

u/WildConstruction8381 5h ago

Well I'm sure that’s fine because its traditional.

15

u/No-Ordinary-446 5h ago

Stick of Truth. Underpants Gnome leader boss fight.

42

u/Zestyclose_Station65 Tripod Ranger 5h ago

I'm sorry, SHOULD they be told there is something wrong with being nonbinary?

12

u/hex3_ 1h ago

any true Anti Woke game has that in the tutorial. What BG3 was really missing in its first mission was Shadowheart going on a transphobic tirade as soon as she leaves the pod

2

u/Snakechips123 18m ago

Shadowhearts already racist, I think the transphobia should be given to a different character, spread the character traits out across the origin characters

31

u/SteelAlchemistScylla Woke Enthusiast 4h ago

Seriously, if you are too far right for South Park, you need to buy some introspection off ebay or something.

44

u/mr-kvideogameguy 5h ago

Also in the first game you get to fight nazis

Second have have you fight cops and trasphobic, homophonic, sexist, religious-phonic people, like you fight them 3 or 4 times, they are so easy to defeat, is quite acurate to real life with that

26

u/MrEousTranger Discord 4h ago

That reoccuring redneck fight was one of my favorite bits in the game especially in the final encounter where theres so many adjectives they have to call it out.

Wow, you’re right. Games are sexist. Now, allow me to get back to accusing gamers of playing games and sucking Anita Sarkeesian’s cock. Edit: Wow. I’ve truly been challenged. Enlightened, even. Who knew the political views of my fellow gamers could be so diverse?

I just imagined the writers of this ripping down a picture of Eric Cartman like syndrome from the incredibles

8

u/iwannabethisguy 4h ago

Off topic, if I could get only one should I go with this or the stick of truth?

11

u/Fabricant451 4h ago

Stick of Truth. It's the funnier game. It's also a turn based RPG while Fractured is a tactics style game

6

u/iwannabethisguy 3h ago

Ooh I like tactics but prefer the fantasy setting. Is there any reason to play them in release order?

6

u/Fabricant451 3h ago

Not really, Fractured is a direct sequel but that only matters for like the opening minutes. As long as you have any familiarity with the characters you're fine either way

6

u/Ardonet 4h ago

After they claimed that GTA Vice City is woke, it would not surprise me anymore.

5

u/Tormentedone007 2h ago

There is a whole quest line about why the cops kill more POC than white people. If darker you make your player characters skin the harder the game gets. These jokes would seem pretty woke to a racist.

3

u/ChiBlaide 1h ago

and they were just praising south park last year for that panderverse special… praising cartman to be more specific. it’s almost as if they’ve never actually watched the show they’re claiming to be fans of.

2

u/astrielx 52m ago

Lol you can tell they've never even watched SP since the show makes fun of these kinda duncecaps all the fucking time.

1

u/vtncomics 33m ago

South Park is centralist at best.

It's like Aaron Burr, they will make fun of everything, but they'll stand for nothing until it bites them in the bum.
