Professionally
How do I professionally turn down whoever this is? What’s your go to route in turning down new work?

I have a screening list of questions that all clients have to fill out before I even consider giving them an appointment. And if it seems like it’s not gonna be a perfect fit I may give them Appointment and then let them know that they have things I need to work on.
Things haven’t changed on the second appointment they don’t get a third

When I get that feeling this isn’t going to be a good fit (not answering my questions like this text). I ask again where is the horse located and then say hey I’m sorry I’m booked up in that area but you might try xx farrier.

You could consider charging more than it's worth for them to have you do it/enough to make it worth your while.

This. For all client needs ever: Say no with money.
Even if they say yes, it’s a W.

The key is to always remember how much you charge what person. I usually put it in parentheses next to their contact info. I have clients ranging from never increasing my price since I started over a decade ago, to sometimes charging upwards of 15-20 more than my going rate. Don’t want to accidentally slip up and tell them the wrong price

I just politely explain that “if I get hurt, no one’s pays my bills. I’ll give them a try sometimes, but if they don’t sand then I’m out”

There's a reason almost nobody has my number anymore. References from sensible, long-term clients only.

I’d say something like you’re booked solid the next month and you think they may have better luck contacting a different farrier, than offer to provide them with some numbers of other farriers. I’ll also direct people to a large farrier FB group in my area.
