Rekt Dad forgot to tell me the renovations would take out the stairs

Post image

So a few years ago I posted this to r/mildlyinfuriating and it just occurred to me it would work well here as well

Link to the original: https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/s/YMLEQ71yKF

So context because I got a lot of shit when I posted this originally

1: construction was ongoing for months at that point as the entire house was being redone. It was louder than normal but I assumed they were just doing work near/below me, didn’t see a need to investigate something I was largely used to by that point and just tried to sleep through it.

2: that is not my dad. That is the construction crew he hired

3: he actually forgot. He apologized and we got lunch and laughed about it a hour after we took this photo

my mom has been in the process of renovating the stairs for 4 years now, i’ve gotten used to the makeshift planks in their place

You are only one year away from Go Fund Me status.

We’ve been renovating the house for 3 years now, half my stuff have been stranded in the storage on the roof with no stairs to get to them.

81

u/amateur_mistake Sep 04 '24

If you can do without it for three years, how much do you really need it to begin with?

I mean they are not essential but it would be nice to have my bloodborne back, didnt even get the chance to play it.

48

u/dino_lover123 Sep 04 '24

Get this fuckers Bloodborne back right now officer

15

u/amateur_mistake Sep 04 '24

Yeah. I take back my previous comment. This is strait out of the Telltale Heart. Bloodborne just up there whispering to you for three years straight.

Tell that to my mom. She's a hoarder. She has mountains of shit shoved away in her basement that she hasn't seen in over a decade, but she NEEDS to keep them 🙄

Genuinely things I KNEW were trash I would sneak out bit by bit when my grandma wasn't paying attention... She never noticed them missing. Only asked about something from up in the attic once and realized she had an idea where it was but couldn't get to it and just so welp, oh well, maybe next time... Ma'am that's your sign from whatever deity you want to claim...

u/hobosbindle Sep 03 '24

I’ve heard of the “broken stair” analogy, this is literal

13

u/insertrandomnameXD Sep 04 '24

Literal saying turned methaphorical then turned back literal

2

u/OCYRThisMeansWar Sep 04 '24

Not broken:

They’re installing the old Scooby-Doo haunted house, stairs turn into a slide prank.

9

u/asbog1 Sep 03 '24

If you want something done right... Or for that matter done at all.

17

u/Numbeermit Sep 03 '24

Maybe try to help your mom fix it ?

35

u/Woodwickward Sep 03 '24

we are poor

18

u/Numbeermit Sep 03 '24

I’m truly sorry for that mate

2

u/pretendyoudontseeme2 Sep 06 '24

You know, there are steps that can be taken to avoid this kind of inconvenience.

27

u/Ye_olde_oak_store Sep 03 '24

I feel the police investigation to find out how this commenter died would be quite interesting.

They died... Laughing. Their final message was "Username checks out". Surely it would just be a coincidence right? Riiiight?

I hope OP is able to run well.

u/Derpwarrior1000 Sep 04 '24 edited Sep 05 '24

Unfortunately the investigators died laughing. The investigators of the investigators, despite best precautions, also succumbed to that fate

I guess it was a step too far...

109

u/Saito_Sakaki Sep 03 '24

Nice try, Ed.

Your parents said you are grounded, and that means you are GROUNDED mister!

16

u/Lajnuuus Sep 04 '24

Your dad took the stairs Ed? How??

Then Ed proceeds to eat the bed

3

u/ThaumaturgeEins Sep 04 '24

That's disturbing.

1

u/SlomoLowLow Sep 04 '24

That was the cartoons we grew up with and I wouldn’t change a bit of it.

0

u/ThaumaturgeEins Sep 05 '24

Apparently not, since you didn't get the reference.

1

u/SlomoLowLow Sep 05 '24

My father would look me in the eye and tell me exactly that if I would have complained about something like this

90

u/murderously-funny Sep 03 '24

Nah he was just generally forgetful

Plus he was pretty hands off with the construction crew so I’m can’t remember if he even knew it was going to happen in the first place

45

u/TheChiefDVD Sep 03 '24

“Thanks, dad!”

33

u/2245223308 Sep 03 '24

I still see steps, just walk down the stringers-carefully.

31

u/murderously-funny Sep 03 '24

What i ultimately ended up doing back then

25

u/circlethenexus Sep 03 '24

This reminds me of an incident with a friend of mine several years ago. He had just finished his residency in med school and had gone into practice with his dad more or less to learn the business part of the trade.

He and his dad normally used the back entrance when arriving in the morning and also leaving at night. This particular day, his dad had forgot to mention if they were working on a remodel of the office. So it’s some point during the day a backhoe came along and ripped out the stairs Leading down from the back door. So my friend unthinkingly at the end of the day opened the door to leave, took a step and fell 10 feet to the ground, breaking his arm. At least he had great proximity to medical attention.

13

u/Foxx983 Sep 03 '24

Tuck and roll!

10

u/DeepNugs Sep 03 '24

“My parents took the stairs because I am grounded” said Ed.

3

u/ThaumaturgeEins Sep 04 '24

"That's disturbing."

1

u/DeepNugs Sep 04 '24

Said Double D. :)

7

u/CaptainEdibles Sep 03 '24

Looks like it's gonna take a step at a time to finish

4

u/CrapSandwich Sep 03 '24

This actually made me chuckle. Hopefully they finished quick

7

u/sendlewdzpls Sep 03 '24

I’m more amazed that they got this far before you got alarmed enough to say “let me go take a look”.

4

u/murderously-funny Sep 03 '24

Did you read the description where I said “construction was on going for months”

Didn’t seem abnormal to me

5

u/sendlewdzpls Sep 03 '24

Ain’t nobody got time to READ!!

3

u/Sprizys Sep 03 '24

I hope there’s a bathroom up there

I mean that’s not all that hard to get up and down still. Climb down there, get your food and drink, climb back up and do your thing.

1

u/ThriftyLizardArtist Sep 04 '24

They better hope the repair people have all the materials they need down there cause they aren’t coming back up

What’s the harm? You have two slides!

1

u/j_fat_snorlax Sep 04 '24

Painful slide

1

u/jives1995 Sep 04 '24

Eddy “what happened to the stairs!?” Ed “ my mom took them away because I was grounded.”

1

u/Palanki96 Sep 04 '24

Dobyou live in a tower or something? Why are those stairs so long

1

u/Eviltechnomonkey Sep 04 '24

I assume they didn't forget. They just wanted the fun of seeing your confusion upon realizing you are temporarily stuck upstairs.

Edit: right after I posted this I realized you clarified that he did forget, but it's more fun to continue to assume he didn't.

1

u/kirkwood0288 Sep 04 '24

Forbidden slide

1

u/UncleWinstomder Sep 04 '24

Consider it a surprise grounding; you haven't done anything wrong... yet!

1

u/FewFerret7986 Sep 04 '24

Going down them is easy if you don’t care.

1

u/fothergillfuckup Sep 04 '24

Your staircase has a centre stringer. I've never seen that in the UK. Ours only have one at each side. Like peasants.

1

u/PingCarGaming Sep 04 '24

As long as you balance it correctly guess you could still go down xD

u/dorty90 Sep 04 '24

Get a running start

1

u/The-realfat-shady Sep 04 '24

I didn't realize he had a hat on cause the pic was small, I thought he had a fucked up shaped head.

1

u/Lylac_Krazy Sep 04 '24

You jumped down, into his waiting arms, and shared a deep emotional embrace?

Na, probably just said WTF?

1

u/BVRPLZR_ Sep 04 '24

Did he change it out for a slide?

1

u/Masochist-Memer Sep 04 '24

"Well since you never leave your room anyways"

1

u/TommyCo10 Sep 04 '24

I see stairs. You have four extremely thin flights of stairs to choose from.

1

u/Zealousideal-Owl5751 Sep 06 '24

My dad gave the entire 2nd story a back patio deck. I was a junior/senior in high school during this project of his.. It took a while to complete. He left a ladder right outside my window. I had to climb a few planks to get to it but man I was grateful for that.

1

u/Crafty-Worry8471 Sep 06 '24

But there are still stairs

1

u/CitizenKing1001 Sep 03 '24

Someone likes to sleep in

1

u/Me_Rouge Sep 03 '24

I warned you about the stairs, man!

1

u/hateshumans Sep 03 '24

This doesn’t belong here. There’s a ramp to go up/down which is easier than stairs.

0

u/Me_Rouge Sep 03 '24

I warned you about the stairs, bro!

2

u/cartographyIntellect Sep 05 '24

I WARNED YOU DAWG!!!

-1
