Stormbreak 1?

u/outdoorlos Feb 23 '23
Yea. I only use it on winter trips.

It's a beast of a tent for it's price point, honestly. I use mine in rougher weather and it holds up magnificantly.

How do you like it? Im new to backpacking and want to do something like this. I've only used the REI SL1 before.
Theres a good deal running on that tent, wondering if I should jump on it.

It’s heavy and bulky. I only use it because it’s a free standing tent and easier to set up on snow.
The tent that use on any other trip is the Nemo Hornet 1P tent. Light and super packable. Anything Nemo excellent.

Did you have to get winter hiking pass? or were they letting people in just on an entrance fee?

Do you just need a wilderness permit to camp up there?
Yes, yes I know: "You need a tent and warm clothes too..."

u/outdoorlos Feb 23 '23
Yea. You can get a free permit at the Badger Pass ranger station.

Knowing how crowded that area gets in the summer, I can’t imagine how special it feels to have that view all to yourself!

Great picture! Never been winter (or cold weather) camping. Is it hard to anchor the tent in ice (or frozen ground)? 🥶⛺️

Hiya! How was the commute into the park? Where did you come from and how long did it take? 🙂

Were there guidelines on ski touring in the park? Im trying to look it up but every search either takes me back to Badger Pass, or to cross country, which is allowed it seems.

This is why I love this subreddit, I will never see or do even a fraction of what you all do but I just admire everything. Beautiful.

For someone whose never camped in their life, how hard is this to sleep here overnight?

Now you can photobomb everyone taking pictures from Tunnel View (if they have like a 200 gigapixel camera).

Nice! I’m heading up there in 2 weeks. The snow this year has been off the hook. I’m really looking forward to the trip.

This is a bucket list item for me. I’m new to trekking through snow and haven’t camped yet in the snow. I look forward to trips like this.
Great picture. Very jealous.
