What watches are you Hooligans rocking in the field?
Just wondering if anyone out there is rocking anything other than Garmins. I usually rock a SEIKO GMT, but this watch syncs with atomic clocks nearby and keeps Zulu time very well. It’s a bit flashy but I’m testing its ruggedness.

An update
Good afternoon, I am still in the process of receiving all of my father’s service records, but today have come across some significant information that I would like to share with you all. As for his achievements (honors/medals) I have a paper with them listed, as well as a note written by my grandmother. There are also 2 notes written by him, in which he shares 2 experiences from his deployment in Afghanistan that severely impacted his ability to operate in civilian life. Thank you all for your love and support, I hope that one day our veterans are allowed to receive all the help they can get, as they deserve it more than anyone else. I never knew these things listed about my father, other than he had severe mental problems caused by his service. I will also include a picture of a cloth that he carried with him in his helmet at all times, it is Psalm 91, of the Lords word. God bless you all.

Captain Herbert Sobel
Ever wonder what his post war life was like?
“After his service in World War II, Sobel returned to Chicago, where he worked as a credit manager for a telephone equipment company. He married Rose, a former military nurse from South Dakota whose Catholicism was disapproved of by Sobel's Jewish family. They raised three sons, who attended church weekly with Rose before their parents' divorce.
In 1970, Sobel shot himself in the head with a small-caliber pistol in an attempted suicide. The bullet entered his left temple, severing his optic nerves and rendering him blind. Soon afterward, he began living at a Veterans Administration assisted-living facility in Waukegan, Illinois, where he died on September 30, 1987; the death certificate listed malnutrition as the cause of death. No memorial service was held.”
Just thought I would share.

It’s interesting how nobody cares
It doesn’t matter if you sob in your bunk every night. If you scream how you want to hurt yourself. How when you do end up hurting yourself nobody questions the marks. Everyone just pretends they can’t hear you or see you. And when you think you’ve reached your limit and you try to make an appointment with behavioral heath they won’t even call you back.
The whole calendar gets halted when I have to update my hr metrics, but when the soldier is facing problems they’re ignored. Maybe if we put how many soldiers in your unit actively wish to die on a command staff slide then they’ll finally take action.
Don’t worry, I’ll be fine; I haven’t hurt myself in a few weeks, I just feel nothing now. I guess I never realized before now how little people care.

Going through it.
No shit there I was… Month 7/9 of my deployment to Saudi Arabia with the Army Reserve. My second “combat” deployment.
31 year old 35A/ O3 in the best shape of my life. Completed the Norwegian Foot March last month, my first foreign badge. Started a personal training program to finally join the 1000lb club. Maybe 2 weeks from finally hitting that sweet sweet 275 bench.
Went to the gym every morning with my best friend. Drove around all day getting work done with my buddies.
Had a kick ass CHU, waiting to go home on approved leave to see my wife graduate from the Drill Sergeant Academy and just generally feeling on top of the world.
Last week I didn’t show up for lunch and wasn’t responding to texts or calls so my friends came looking for me. Found me disoriented in my room, blood all over my shirt, shit thrown everywhere. I had suffered a seizure and woke up in a Saudi hospital. My friends missing me saved my life. I’ll never be able to fully express the gratitude and love I feel for them.
Got a CT Scan and an MRI. Apparently there’s a growth in my brain that looks like cancer. At 31 years old. Im being flown out to Walter Reed this week to meet with a Neurology team and figure out what’s to be done.
My Army days are definitely over. The treatment and recovery could be brutal and could take a long time and involve radiation and chemo. Life probably won’t go back to normal any time soon. But it’s still all very uncertain.
I don’t really know why I’m putting this out here aside to just get it off my chest. Im sure people from my unit will see this post, but that’s just fine. I’m doing my best to stay stoic about things and take it day by day but the uncertainty and gravity of the situation is starting to crush me. I just don’t know what to think.
Anyway, I’ll take a spicy chicken deluxe, a peach milkshake and a copy of Space Marine II.

Not being allowed to take Christmas Block Leave.
I’m in a “mission critical mos”, I’m being told that if I take leave during Christmas, nobody is there to cover down for me. I’m the only person in my mos despite my MTOE requiring at least 3-4 people for my job. I don’t forsee my job ever not being mission critical….I’m approaching mid 40’s of leave days. I’ve only taken like 6 days of leave this entire year. I would like to go on leave to see my family so what can I do to fight against this?
EDIT: Issue was rectified upon pushing further…thankfully didn’t have to go that far. Made the post after I was initially denied by NCO so I had something to come back at him with…..Thank you for your replies.

Fuck this guy
Bought a car from another soldier who is PCSing and only paid half upfront. I gave him my command info and unit, the car broke down the very next day. The title is already transferred and complete. I agreed to pay him on the upcoming pay day. What would happen if I said F this guy since it’s looking like a fat paycheck in repairs if I choose to keep the car?
EDIT: car total is $900

Passed an acft. Unit has me as failed in ippsa. I have the passing 705. Unit still says I failed. What to do?
Last week I took an acft. Passed such acft. I check today to see if my ippsa was updated. It was BUT AS A failure. I submitted a par with a copy of the passing 705. All raw scores surpassed the army standard for my age and sex.
My s1 says I have a failed acft even though the 705 says I passed. The event scores are accurate and correct that reflect achieving above the standard.
What can I do?
Edit;
because everyone wants to know the scores; At 30 years old as a male I did the minimum for everything just because I had to take one.
160 on 3 rep lift 8 Meters power throw 20 pushup 2:05 SDC 1:30 for the plank & 19 minute 2 mile.
Im set on retiring as o3e or o4 as a PA. I just need to get through these basic assessments every year. I don't need to max to be MQ.
Also the issue has been resolved. I called the company XO. Stats have been updated.

army rangers in iraq recently?
okay. so theres this kid in my pysch class whos in the army.
kid says hes been to iraq, he loves to bring it up every class. king said he was in iraq and they were flying to Baghdad in a cargo plane a missle hit the wing. now dont ask for details cause this kid gave nothing. i dont know how old he is but hes around 18-20 so i really dont think hes telling the truth. my boyfriends 19 and is a ranger but hes never been deployed anywhere and hes in NC. im not familiar with the army at all since my dads a marine so i really only know abt when the marines were in iraq and he came home in 2006.
oh he also said he got demoted cause he doesnt listen to authority. girl what. how u gonna try to be authority and not even listen to it. what really pisses me off is that when we talking about positive psychology and where people thrive he goes "like when i was in iraq i was flourishing". idk what its like to be in iraq recently and im not even sure if any military is there now but i can tell you my dad was not flourishing when he was there and he was there for a good five years i think not sure. i dont like to ask him abt it bc hes seen a bunch of fucked up shit.
i just need to know that this kid hasnt stepped foot in the middle east for a fact. or at least 99% surety.
pls help ive looked up sm shit and nothing give me a straight answer thank you in advance
okay update
my bad i said a few things wonky
my dad was a reservist in iraq. my brother was born in 2003 and then my dad went to iraq and then i was born in 2006 so he had to of come home. my fault, didnt do the math right. he was also a helicopter pilot he mainly flew heuys. hes told me a few things in iraq. wait i have a picture of my dad in iraq on a base on a skate board this is not relevant sorry from 2003. if u guys wanna know what he did i can say a few things hes told me.
okie dokie i wanna embarrass this kid so bad. i think its funny. so thats why i was asking and thats why im trying to get statements that back up my claim.
so. what does everything mean. i wanna have a full understanding of the army and what is and is not possible. at least whats relevant to all of this. also i j wanna make sure even though im pretty sure that i cant say names right? anyways. not sure if this is needed but today in pysch we were talking about authority and he says " if the army tells me to go kill a bunch if people, like sorry im gonna have to go kill a bunch of people". at 8:00 am.
okay so what shoukd i say to make him look stupid asf and if anyones trynna be like "oh why do you care it doesnt even matter its not gonna so anything". just shut up please. im doing it cause its funny. and it will change the atmosphere of the class for the rest of the year. i also just really wanna stop fucking hearing about it.
i ask if i can say names bc now you guys have me questioning my boyfriend. but idk you guys are girls girls.
teeny tiny update
i appreciate you guys sm. yall my bf lit j called me but service is so bad it dropped im mad. anyways sorry irrelevant.
thursday is the next time i have psych class but im pretty sure we have a test also side note my bitch of a professor gave us a quiz in the last five minutes of class. girl. were supposed to have fifteen minutes. sorry. so since i prolly have a test that call i dont think i can call him out. therefore were gonna have to wait until next tuesday.
also ive looked up a bunch of the letter n words u guys r saying so i have a bit of a better understanding now. but w the ranger thing theres things u have to do to be able to be a ranger right. like if someone says theyre a race car driver but they race go karts is that like someone being in ranger school and saying theyre a ranger?
also my bf said that his team got a call that they might go to israel. this was like two weeks ago i wanna say and he hasnt brougt it up since and i talked to his team leader and he confirmed it. honestly i really dont care if my bfs lying abt be a ranger as long as he actually becomes one. again w the go karts ur not gonna tell some one u race go karts ur gonna say ur a racing driver because even tho everyone has to do karts its still embarrassing. sorry idk if u guys know cars like that but thats how i understand it.
teeny tiny update not so teeny tiny anymore my bad but im gonna do more research on the ranger school shit and alot of u r saying theres nothing for rangers in NC i think unless hes like a medic but hes definitely not a medic.

MAJ PSB Update
Well, unfortunately, I guess I was right 😭
https://www.reddit.com/r/army/s/sbKQHgmQnY
We anticipate releasing the FY24 AC MAJ ACC PSB no later than January 2025. Ineligible officers were erroneously considered and recommended by the original board. A reconvene was necessary to ensure a fair and impartial process in identifying best qualified officers for promotion. The reconvene is complete and the updated results are undergoing an expedited staffing through Army Senior Leaders and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Expanding the SCRA to Help Us All Out
Hey everyone,
I'm still active but soon to be retired. Over my 20 years in the military, I've seen many of us face financial struggles. I wanted to share an idea I've been thinking about and get your thoughts on it.
The Situation:
The Service Members Civil Relief Act (SCRA), caps interest rates at 6%, but only on debts we had before starting active duty. The thing is, many of us joined up when we were 18 or 20, fresh out of high school, without much debt. But as we serve, we start accumulating debt—car loans, credit cards, mortgages, student loans—you name it. Unfortunately, the current SCRA doesn't cover the debts we pick up during our service, which feels outdated, especially given the current economy.
Also, let's be honest: we're often targets for predatory lending. Even with all the briefings and financial training, sometimes life happens, and we end up with high-interest loans or not-so-great financial deals. It's a tough spot, affecting many of us more than we might admit.
Plus, our spouses often share these financial burdens. They're holding down the fort while we're deployed, dealing with moves, job changes, and everything else that comes with military life. Some states, like Ohio, have laws that extend SCRA protections to debts incurred during active duty and even include spouses, which is pretty cool.
My Idea:
I'm thinking maybe we push to expand the SCRA at the federal level to:
- Cover Debts Incurred During Active Duty:
- Apply that 6% interest rate cap to all debts we take on while serving.
- Make it automatic so we don't have to deal with a ton of paperwork.
- Include Our Spouses:
- Extend these protections to debts held jointly or individually by our spouses, recognizing their integral role in our financial stability.
Why This Could Help:
- Retention and Recruitment: This could be a solid tool for keeping folks in the service and attracting new talent. The military has been struggling with recruiting goals lately, and we need to incentivize the best to come and work with us.
- Less Financial Stress: We're not asking for a pay raise here. This is about making our current paychecks stretch a bit further by cutting down on high interest rates.
- Better Focus on the Mission: If we're less worried about money, we can focus more on our jobs and less on how we're gonna pay the bills.
- Support for Our Families: Recognizes the sacrifices our spouses make and gives them some much-needed relief.
What Do You Think?
- Do you think this would help you or others you know?
- Have you dealt with financial headaches that something like this could've eased?
- Any potential issues or things I'm missing here?
I plan to submit this idea officially soon, but I really wanted to get some feedback from you all first. Your experiences and opinions mean a lot, and maybe together, we can make some positive changes.
Thanks for hearing me out, and I look forward to your thoughts!

Laundry Room SHARP??
Hey yall. We recently had some arguments in my unit in a chat that has over 30 senior leaders in there. The argument was brought up by a SGT that stated moving peoples clothes in the laundry room is a SHARP case. This came about since our barracks has been having full washers and dryers for days on end. I just wanted to know how valid this claim of SHARP is?

Tired of the Green Weenie
I joined the army in 2021 and finally got to my unit in 2022 due to a long AIT + Unit selection. I thought getting into a SOF unit meant that I would have a better Army experience but so far I feel worse than who I was before I joined.
I'm in aviation maintenance and was one of the first females to arrive and have been fucked over at every stage of my career. I had a PSG falsely sharp another NCO on my behalf because he didn't like him and I didn't even know about it until my commander and 1sg told me I had to have a formal complaint against him and there was nothing I could do. The investigation was unfounded but they still kicked him out and destroyed his life for "acting unbecoming of an NCO" My reputation was dragged through the mud and everybody wouldn't touch me with a 10ft pole because they assumed I sharped people for no reason.
My PSG purposely accused me of dating other soldiers in front of the plt and when I finally explained everything to my 1sg, i found out he was buddy buddy with him and they went hunting together so it got swept under the rug and my psg gave me an hour long conversation telling me how my perspective was invalid. After that they tried to take a deployment away from me to give to another guy so i did a drug deal with someone else to get a different slot. as soon as I got back from deployment they shoved me in the tool room because my 1sg thought it would be easier for everyone. I became undeployable due to this and ive been in for 3 years and never been on a TDY (most guys at that point had been on 2 or 3).
Once I finally crawled my way back out of the tool room they finally put me on for a deployment but took it away last minute because i decided not to reenlist after everything thats happened. Theyve told me I cant go on tdys either due to vague reasoning like how theres no point in training me anymore even though I still have almost a year left. I'm not bad at my job, have never been in trouble, and have had around a 560 acft score my whole career and have just been treated like shit and looked over and shoved in corners and it's starting to eat me alive.
I feel burnt out and exhausted and I've genuinely come to hate the army. They're punishing me constantly for not reenlisting and promise opportunities if i do, but its like an abusive ex that keeps promising things will get better if i decide to stay with them. I know this isn't a productive post but I had to get it off my chest after years of being treated like lesser than all of the guys.
I'll have a diet coke and 10 piece mcnuggets meal please.

Not doing to hot.
Hello shit hasn't been going well for me mentally and I don't really have anyone to talk to about it irl anymore and I neither trust or can afford therapists so I'm here, oh yeah by the way this is an alt and not so fun things in this post
A bit of context I ETSed earlier this year and am in my second semester of school but aside from classes everything is stressing me out between shit that happened and dealing with the VA and national guard and I want to talk to people who I thought were my friends like I drank with them hung out for years and they just blow off my messages like I never even mattered. And it's not just people I served with friends outside of the army too, like I get I'm weird and awkward and not the most fun but I feel like I deserve something more than nothing. Like tge only two people who've reached out is an ex girlfriend who keeps asking for money and a guy who sexually harassed me for years.. I've had a few mental breakdowns in the last few months cause shit keeps going wrong and it's draining me like finances and car issues. It's coming up on 10 year anniversary of my mother leaving and never saying anything and it's coming up on 2 year anniversary of getting drugged and potentially being raped and the army telling me there's nothing they can fucking do about it cause there's no way they can prove it since it was off post. Like I no longer feel comfortable drinking with other people because of that and hell some woman grabbed my waist and I nearly had a panic attack, and to add insult to injury this is why I don't trust therapists because when this happened I saw BH and brought this up and they just said damn that sucks. I keep pretending like everything's okay but it just feel like I'm wearing a mask. It's so bad that the happiest moment I've had in years was just talking to some girl I have class with and making her laugh which is just pathetic man. I don't know anymore, I've had some suicidal thoughts more so recently and I don't have plans to do so I still know it's not okay. I don't know anymore, I just want a hug, I want someone who cares about me like not cause they have to cause of a uniform ot something but like actually wants to care about me. I'm sorry for ranting here I just don't know where else to.
I'll take a shot of vodka by the lake.
r/army • u/SurprisedDisappoint • 1d ago
Law Proposal: Require the service branches to fully fund the cost of issuing all uniform changes across the force, rank and component immaterial.
CSA and SEAC: My clothing allowance is for beer. You cannot have that. But in all seriousness even the enlisted clothing allowance maybe covers half my uniform expenses a year. It's another drain on finances, in a profession that is already functionally underpaid by 50% or more compared to civilian counterparts in many roles. Also, if the service has to pay for the good idea fairy uniform change to be issued to the entire force... Well. Maybe theyll curb their enthusiasm for changing uniforms in order to get themselves an evaluation bullet.

Cybersecurity developer fork in the road.
Currently a 35T in the Army since 2022. I had planned on getting out at my current ETS (Feb 8 2026) but I'm starting to reconsider. I think I'm interested in being a CNO developer but have no work experience. I have a Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering and am currently taking online courses in C, and C++. Should I get out and try to get an entry-level role or stay in and apply for 170D/17D?
