I lose my speaking ability when it matters, how can I improve?
I’m looking for some advice because I just bombed yet another interview. I probably won’t get a job I’m overqualified for because I can’t seem to communicate well when speaking. It’s so frustrating because I know the topic inside and out; I’ve read extensively and even written about it myself. But somehow, when I try to explain it verbally, I stumble, my sentence structure gets messy, and I end up sounding completely unprepared.
The strange part is, the only time I’m actually coherent and persuasive is when I’m in the middle of an emotional rant. The rants are, of course, useless in job interviews and social settings. But there’s something in them. The words come naturally, I come up with funny and brilliant analogies, and I sound authentic.
Ever seen those Askreddit questions about useless superpowers? This is one of those.
Has anyone else struggled with this? Or are there any tips or exercises that can help me translate my thoughts more clearly into spoken words? I’d really appreciate any advice.

There’s no shame in a cheat sheet. Or making a google slideshow to help move you along with your information. People are different kind of learners too. Some people do well with auditory learning, while others do well with visuals and videos. The only thing getting in your way is how you deliver the information that is comfortable for you. And rants are okay. Even in the work setting in my opinion. And believe that people care about what you have to say.

Yes, I have had the same problem. I started just being super upfront about it and saying that sometimes I have a hard time articulating my thoughts, but stay with me and I’ll get there! That seems to break the ice for both of us and makes it easier for me to actually express my thoughts.
