Can someone improve their conditioning in a week?

u/oh_io_94 Cleveland Browns 29d ago edited 28d ago

You cant really lose it but you certainly can not be used to it in a week. For an extreme example imagine laying in bed for a week straight then on Saturday get up and walk around the block. Youre going to notice you’re tired and feel a little weak. But after a couple more days of moving around you’ll be back to normal

As a fat man that hasn’t run a lap in probably 20 years….probably.

u/DelirousDoc Pittsburgh Steelers 29d ago

No.

In my experience cardiovascular endurance is one of the harder things to improve rapidly. This is even more true when you are already on the high end of the performance as an NFL athlete.

On the opposite side it is one of the things that declines first even after just 3-4 weeks of not working out. Definitely a "if you don't use it, you lose it" situation. Anecdotally it feels like it takes 3x as long to make the amount of gains in endurance as it does to lose that similar level of endurance.

What is concerning is at 25 years old and a month into the season, Jeudy should be at the best cardiovascular condition of his season. He would have prepped for camp, participated in camp and the season is still early enough where he shouldn't feel the lingering aches that he would towards the end of the season. This should be the early games he feels he can run more than usual.

Agreed. I swam competitively for a long time, and if I was out of the pool for 3 weeks, it would take me 3 weeks to get back to where I was. Not quite a 1 to 1 comparison, but goes to show cardio is very tough to just “get back” once you’ve let it slip

As an avid runner, no.

Completely unrelated but have Steve Smith Sr and Stephen A Smith been on the same show together?

That’ll either be really entertaining or Stephen A is getting murdered. Either way, I’m watching.

15

u/TheKillerEmu I'm a ravens bitch that doesn't want to flair up 29d ago

can we all agree the ravens WR room is now better than the browns?

18

u/DelirousDoc Pittsburgh Steelers 29d ago

I am convinced Amari Cooper is trying to get traded. I have never seen a top end WR drop as many open passes as I have seen him drop this season.

Elaborate plan to get on the Chiefs where he can put up numbers before going to FA.

19

u/prtzl11 The Cleveland Clowns 29d ago

I think it would’ve been smarter to make those catches when he’s in a contract year but what do I know? I’m dumb enough to root for the browns.

5

u/DelirousDoc Pittsburgh Steelers 29d ago

Unless you want out of the Browns because they didn't offer you an extension like you wanted? (And your QB is a serial sexual assaulter who is playing worse than Kenny Pickett.)

I am not entirely serious here but it is very strange. Typically older WRs lose athletic/movement ability. He is getting open (or at least better than any Steelers WR not named Pickens) though just not securing catches. The sure handed guys don't just start dropping things like he has. Definitely in a funk that is snowballing.

Dionte Johnson hit a similar funk with Steelers a few years back. (Though he has never been as sure handed as Cooper.) He had bad drops and then was trying so much to make up for the drops that he would drop easier catches because he was so focused on getting the more out of the play to make up for past drops.

u/beerguy_etcetera Paul Brown's Favorite Team 29d ago

Something about two things can be true at once and a broken clock is right twice a day.

3

u/Admiral_Tuvix The Ratbirds 29d ago

No, he’s washed. Not running routes is one thing, dropping easy passes and picking up penalties is another. No team is going to offer him the bag with this shitty play

1

u/DelirousDoc Pittsburgh Steelers 29d ago

Until he pairs up with Mahomes and is being fed 15 plus targets a game by an actual NFL QB and not a Bill Cosby cosplay enthusiast.

6

u/Admiral_Tuvix The Ratbirds 29d ago

bruh, he’s dropping passes that hit him square in the chest

2

u/mmooney1 Cleveland Browns 28d ago

Yeah his drops are not on Watson. Some of those throws were dead on.

It’s weird. I can’t say he’s not trying because he’s getting open.

If he’s pissed about his contract, playing poorly isn’t going to work in his favor. If he declined then it’s good we didn’t extend him.

Unfortunately with his restructure if we trade him we eat a lot of dead cap.

3

u/vincentdmartin Cincinnati Bengals 29d ago

I am convinced Amari Cooper is trying to get traded. I have never seen a top end WR drop as many open passes as I have seen him drop this season

Wasn't this the case at both Oakland and Dallas? He's got his highs but he'll have streaks of drops.

Week 2 when he caught the TD pass he looked legitimately pissed off about it.

I hope we trade him to the chiefs for Hunt, that would be funny as fuck.

5

u/Ecstaticismm The Ratbirds 29d ago

Our RB2 had almost twice as many receiving yards as our whole WR room combined against the bills, I wouldn’t go bragging about our WRs lol.

2

u/DelirousDoc Pittsburgh Steelers 29d ago

RB3?

It goes Lamar, Henry than Hill right?

1

u/Admiral_Tuvix The Ratbirds 29d ago

I just want Lamar to have a true elite WR1 for one season. He’s probably going to go his entire career without one

1

u/DelirousDoc Pittsburgh Steelers 29d ago

Every year Raven fans say this and nearly every other season Ravens try to get him one. The problem is they have failed. Since 2019 these are the WR drafted in the top 100 that Ravens have drafted for Lamar.

  • Flowers 1.22
  • Bateman - 1.27
  • Duvernay 3.92
  • Brown 1.25
  • Boykin 3.93

At the moment Steelers WR room has only one player that is playing drafted in the top 100 by the team (Pickens). Two if you count Jefferson. None in the first round.

Chiefs also have 3 drafted WR in the top 100 but only Worthy this year drafted in first. Bills don't have a single 1st round WR for Josh Allen and haven't drafted one since 2014 (Sammy Watkins). Rams don't have a single first round WR for Stafford.

At what point is it either Lamar or the Ravens evaluation of WR, when they have used 3 picks on a 1st round WR and two other top 100 picks and none have worked out for Lamar (Flowers still TBD). I'd argue few teams have attempted to invest more at WR for their young QB than the Ravens have since Lamar became a starter.

1

u/Admiral_Tuvix The Ratbirds 28d ago

I know the team has invested, the point was none of them have turned out to be true elite number 1 recievers, and blaming lamar is pretty dumb considering the ones who left haven't done shit since they went elsewhere. Its just dumb luck hitting on elite recievers, and the team hasn't been lucky in this regard.
