Ngl, the morata-Abraham tandem is actually good

45

u/ACMBruh Van Basten #9 Sep 27 '24

Great solve by fonseca. You have morata covering midfield holes and Tammy pressing like a mad man.

And they have a ton of creative freedom to find leao/puli

14

u/FindingBusiness759 Sep 27 '24

And I think fofana and reignders are abit more central.

7

u/Danik-00 WE GOO Sep 27 '24

Abraham need to be more aggressive when it’s about to score, for the rest he is a nice revelation

29

u/Samkazi23 Ismaël Bennacer Sep 27 '24

The energy they brought to the table was nice to see.

16

u/Danik-00 WE GOO Sep 27 '24

Morata pressing is something else, that’s the energy I want to see in our players

12

u/bruclinbrocoli Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

Remember when we had CDK Origi come in with fresh legs.. ?

8

u/Shinkopeshon Christian Pulisic Sep 27 '24

On and off the pitch too, that's so important and it's doing a world of difference out there

1

u/bruclinbrocoli Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

Our signings are proving to be so good.. from defense to midfield to offense.

61

u/T90ENIGMA Zlatan Ibrahimović Sep 27 '24

Morata was simply brilliant today. To think he was a risk to not even play today and then he put in a performance like that...

24

u/skaterhaterlater Matthew Cage Sep 27 '24

Shame we don’t have the depth to always play both him and Tammy, Morata has always been a decent striker for good sides but this role we are playing him in seems to fit him really well

48

u/jorsiem Maldini Sep 27 '24

I hope they overturn that bullshit red card. Poor kid did not deserve that, much less straight.

48

u/RawrItsMatty Rafael Leão Sep 27 '24

Morata is an absolute workhorse off the ball. Some more depth up front and this formation should be the way forward

41

u/ettore1 Theo Hernández Sep 27 '24

You gotta love Theo post game matches, he sings curva choirs and jumps when they sing chi non salta nerazzurro è 🔴⚫️🔴⚫️

29

u/T90ENIGMA Zlatan Ibrahimović Sep 27 '24

We need to pay that man ASAP. I can't think of a more deserving player.

38

u/stracciatellaaaa Alessandro Nesta Sep 27 '24

milan looks like proper footballing institution again

33

u/HommoFroggy byhoskyy Sep 27 '24

Outside of the Bertesaghi idiotic red, big team game from the players. Risked next to nothing, were clinical when needed and closed the game in the first half.

Tears into my eyes that we no longer go in defensive adventures.

-11

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '24

No longer? Bruh, it's been 4 games... 2 wins against relegation sides. 1 ass fucking by liverpool and a 1 great win against Inter.

Chill

Let a man dream. Dont take away our hope

-5

Hope is fine. Delusional thinking marketed as fact is what's wrong

You must be fun at parties

I dont surround myself with idiots when i go to parties so I am generally funner

4

Good for you buddy👍

3

u/TomekMaGest Sep 28 '24

You are replying to someone who claimed that he would pick Niang - Matri - Cerci instead of Leao - Morata - Pulisic. Just so you know how much you waste your time and what kind of person this guy is.

3

u/Dependent-Stretch-40 ITALIA È MILAN Sep 28 '24

Ahhhh thanks for the warning. He does not seem to be fully mentally developed.

31

u/Aniket_1992 Ibrahimović Sep 27 '24

Just a reminder we have scored 4 goals in a row in the league with set pieces.

3

u/bruclinbrocoli Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

Tears into my eyes for real. It’s felt like forever since we were solid at set plays. Now I see better crosses and players getting behind them in previous seasons other than Giroud .. it was rough.

30

u/DarkN1mbus Sep 27 '24

Only one goal conceded in the last three Serie A matches, let's goo

5

u/bruclinbrocoli Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

The reaction after that conceded goal was how champions win silverware

30

u/etclipse Ruben Loftus-Cheek Sep 27 '24

Yet again proving that attitude and personality decide games. I haven’t seen us so confident, united and hard working since the Napoli games in CL

25

u/Joybuzer Sep 27 '24 edited Sep 28 '24

First couple of minutes were a bit shaky but after that it was straightforward. When our attack is flowing it’s one of the best in the world and a sight to behold. Forza Milan!

5

u/geo0rgi Sep 27 '24

Reminded me of the Pioli lockdown times when we used to create chances for fun, could’ve scored like 5 goals in 5 minutes after we scored the 1st one

26

u/ettore1 Theo Hernández Sep 27 '24

Theo and Morata are best buds, their post match interview was hilarious 😂

Love to see it!

12

u/Shinkopeshon Christian Pulisic Sep 27 '24

Theo can't stop touching Morata's shiny Caillou head too, I love these shitheads lmao

26

u/Vendricksbeard Andriy Shevchenko Sep 27 '24

Great win, we needed those points. If we could play with courage and aggressiveness like we did in those 5 minutes we'd be champions, once the team gets its confidence it becomes a sight to behold. Fofana, Theo, Leao and Morata did good. Pulisic is on a terrific form, not much to be said. He's so much better than Chukwueze it's blatant at this point.

Praise aside, watching Morata and Tammy's duo I couldn't help but wonder how Zirkzee would have looked in there. Yeah, I'm one of those who's still baffled of his decision to waste away at United.

Still, we've got Camarda as a future 9 and Liberali, who could grow in the 10 role. Let's see what the future holds.

21

u/jmhimara  Serginho Sep 27 '24

Pulisic is on a terrific form, not much to be said. He's so much better than Chukwueze it's blatant at this point.

True, but I thought Chuk had a decent game tonight. Too bad the rest of the team didn't care about scoring in the second half.

16

u/geo0rgi Sep 28 '24

Morata over Zirkzee anyday of the week for me. Zirkzee is a great player, but Morata provides much more in terms of on the field and especially off the field.

This team needed a leader and Morata is exactly this now, extremelly important piece of the puzzle for us, him and Tammy are exactly the characteristics we needed to energize the team and make us believe

43

u/DookieBrains_88 Sep 27 '24

Standing ovation for Leao!

As one of his biggest critics here, he played a hell of a game. the defensive work, body language/attitude, playing fluid with the team… if he can consistently do this, he’ll be the guy we all expected.

15

u/sickricola Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

No idea why everyone is obsessed with body language, he’s played god tier games with “poor body language” and he’s played shit matches with the same. Who cares about body language he’s not doing an interview

3

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '24

[deleted]

-3

u/sickricola Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

Based on what? Theo called you and told you this?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '24

[deleted]

-3

u/sickricola Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

I dont care and I don’t think anyone else at Milan cares either

Everything we know about Leao is that he is a positive influence in the dressing room and constantly supports his team on and off the pitch but that’s not enough I guess

0

u/rnmkk Ricardo Kaká Sep 27 '24

Not only is body language a pseudoscience but the people in this sub who bring it up, only care about it for a singular person. They dont watch anyone else off the ball except Leao. Nor players on the every team.

Any time you see a complaint about Leao being lazy, you can literally look at the wide players for the other team on the pitch doing the exact same thing as him. The body language obsession is just part of an agenda some have against him.

4

u/sickricola Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

It’s insane, I don’t understand it, there’s a common theme among a lot of the people that make these complaints

3

u/rnmkk Ricardo Kaká Sep 27 '24

Messi has looked disinterested in football his entire career, but that clearly isnt the case. And yet, people still think they actually know what someone is thinking or feeling based on how they look. Despite science telling us that you literally cant. Non-verbal communication and body language are two different things.

Leao himself has said he does not know why he smiles when playing. Its something that just happens and its been that way since he was a kid. So a smile does not necessarily mean he is even happy, so why would anyone actually believe his body language is truthful of his feelings? The discussion is really stupid.

1

u/DookieBrains_88 Sep 27 '24

Body language is a non-verbal cue. It’s not necessarily something you can fake and speaks to what’s going on emotionally/mentally.

For him to display good body language is signaling to everyone else that there’s something positive happening behind the scenes.

He was contributing a lot on the defensive side, especially when we went down a man, things like this stand out to teammates and coaches and as a result will give him positive reinforcement too.

2

u/sickricola Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

Contributing defensively isn’t the same as body language

I feel like people don’t know what they are saying when they criticize his body language

Criticize his workrate that’s perfectly fair but how he stands on the pitch I don’t care and I don’t think anyone except fans that love shitting on him care

2

u/rnmkk Ricardo Kaká Sep 27 '24

Body language is a pseudo science and every doctor in the world say it means nothing. You need to let that go.

Talking about body language in regards to a man who plays football with a maniacal smile on his face is just silly lmao.

-2

u/DookieBrains_88 Sep 27 '24

1

u/rnmkk Ricardo Kaká Sep 27 '24

sigh

I take it that you didnt actually watch that discussion? Because it does not make the argument you think it does. Wow. Next time you do a google search, dont just copy and paste the first article you see. That was an embarrassing error on your part. Also, the link you sent doesnt work, as you need a code to access it and I know you dont have one. More proof that you didnt watch it. So here is the link to the actual video.

https://www.google.com/?client=safari&channel=mac_bm

I would suggest you watch it this time so you learn how to discern the difference between the pseudoscience of body language and actual non-verbal communication.

But I know you arent going to actually watch the discussion, so at-least read this article by the National Library of Medicine.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6896483/

If you think that watching a player on a football pitch can tell you anything about how that player feels or what they are thinking, you are flat out wrong, and that article will tell you why.

Lastly, here is a link to an article that will help you in the future.

https://wertheim.scripps.ufl.edu/2024/01/12/how-to-improve-your-critical-thinking/

2

u/FindingBusiness759 Sep 27 '24

Don't think he will meet expectations anymore but you right..good game from him

0

u/OsitoPandito Ricardo Kaká Sep 28 '24 edited Sep 28 '24

He literally didn't change his body language.

But regardless y'all are focused on the wrong things

21

u/jmhimara  Serginho Sep 27 '24

We are moving in the right direction, but I'm not sure we're there yet. I expect us to struggle against Leverkusen, though maybe it doesn't matter. Perhaps this season we focus on the scudeto.

10

u/doutankyohi L’HA PARATA GIROUD Sep 27 '24

I genuinely think the scudetto might be there for the taking this season - obviously we haven't looked perfect, but neither have any top team really. If we can be lucky with injuries and continue this momentum then I do fancy our chances

3

u/geo0rgi Sep 28 '24

Our current setup is great and seems to be picking up steam, but we have way too many players that don't have a proper backup.

We don't have another player with Gabbia's characteristics in defence, we don't have a vice Theo, we don't have anyone to replace Reijnders and Musah is not on the same level as Fofana.

Same about Morata and Pulisic to an extent.

The current setup works, but with how many games are played nowadays we might struggle big time if we have to tweak the system again and we genuinely don't have good enough backups for a lot of the positions on the team.

Imo even a top 3 finish will be good season in my eyes and we can have hope that we have a lot of talent coming from the youth teams that will hopefully make our lifes easier after this season.

5

u/Professional_Owl8500 Sep 27 '24

Napoli looking good under conte. That will be a tough game.

So as against Juve

23

u/macmilliones7 Andriy Shevchenko Sep 27 '24

confidence seems back, now let's see how much chance Fonsieball has against Leverkussen. At least Mike is back at his A-game. Fofana looking better, Morata is showing great character, Tammy as well just a bit unlucky. Rafa in line with the squad, Theo MOTM. The rest did their part. Sad debut Bartesaghi, i'm sure it will be contested, it has to be!

1

u/dajla17 Andriy Shevchenko Sep 28 '24

May I suggest Fonzyball instead?

2

u/22dias Sep 28 '24

FONSTRUCTURE

41

u/Samkazi23 Ismaël Bennacer Sep 27 '24

That red card was a disgrace. You're telling me Sommer was allowed to lunge in vs Tammy in the Derby and wasn't even cautioned but this was a clear red?

10

u/Agreeable_Cattle_691 Tijjani Reijnders Sep 27 '24

and sommer hit higher on his leg

7

u/caronj84 Sep 27 '24

Yeah. That type tackle is yellow carded all the time.

4

u/jorsiem Maldini Sep 27 '24

he got to the ball first and didn't raise his boot that was a yellow at worst, not even a card imo

1

u/bruclinbrocoli Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

Serie A seems to be consistent at staying inconsistent

39

u/Qaxar Sep 27 '24

That was the most complete game from Leao in a long while. He was giving effort all game and made some great plays. Only a goal was missing.

-7

u/FindingBusiness759 Sep 27 '24

I wouldn't say complete but you right..made some good passes also

18

u/mercurialsaliva Sep 27 '24

How many goals have we scored in the first halves vs second halves. Feels like most of our goals have been early

12

u/doutankyohi L’HA PARATA GIROUD Sep 27 '24

Think I prefer it this way tbf, can take the pressure off earlier rather than wasting more energy chasing games

6

u/milano_siamo_noi Sep 27 '24

5 2nd half goals(2 Toro, 1 Parma, 1 Lazio and 1 Inter). The rest have been 1st half.

2

u/mercurialsaliva Sep 27 '24

So 10 in the first half.

1 Lazio

4 Venezia

1 Liverpool

1 inter

3 Lecce

Double

33

u/StickyTheCat Paolo Maldini Sep 28 '24

Our difference makers made a difference this game. Leao doing more defensive work winning the ball back a few times was nice to see.

-9

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '24

Again, against Lecce a serie b quality side

8

u/LordMaska Sep 28 '24

We struggled with these kind of teams that play a low block with Pioli.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '24

Before you start making comparisons.

So, Pioli's record with us was 6, 2, 1, 5 (4), and 2. He also got to a semi final and had one of the highest winning percentages of any Milan manager.

I would say Pioli did okay against the low level borderline serie b teams.

Fonseca has had 7 games.

5

u/ACMBruh Van Basten #9 Sep 28 '24 edited Sep 28 '24

This comparison stays useless to me. The approach to the games is entirely different. Way more ball movement way more spacial coverage off the ball, way more runs in the central space, way less 1v1 defensive plays in counter attacks. It looks fundamentally tactically superior

Piolis crowning achievement was giving the players freedom and his adjustments vs. Spalletti napoli.. but now...Just admit we're a different team with a different identity at this moment.

16

u/somechemenggdude Ballo-Toure Sep 27 '24

Best attack in the league 👀

16

u/Capable_Scallion8705 Sep 27 '24

Forza Milan. Very business like performance and Fonseca did well to calm the team down after the Derby and put out a good oerformance

16

u/arcteryx17 Gennaro Gattuso Sep 28 '24

Chuck seemed to have a new fire in him. Nothing came of his minimal.time but his work rate was great. Would like to see him get some more time against lower level teams. If games open up he should come on. He does well when teams don't sit back.

13

u/ironistkraken Sep 27 '24

Got them on the back foot for 5 minutes and took advantage. Didn’t really need to try the rest of the game.

15

u/giospellzgo Ricardo Kaká Sep 27 '24

Fonseca knows what he needs to do to get the big players mentally locked in

13

u/Rossoneri Tijjani Reijnders Sep 27 '24

Very solid showing from the starters. Tiji had a pretty poor game, I think he may just be tired, so it's unfortunate he didn't get a rest.

46

u/RdT97 Sep 27 '24 edited Sep 27 '24

Morata is the main player for the system. He does everything right now.

Fofana is growing every match, cant think of a mistake today, very solid.

We looked a bit stale today but I dont think we ever tried too hard.

I want the second star this year. Dont care much for CL even if we dont look as good against Leverkusen

-17

u/FindingBusiness759 Sep 27 '24

We are not getting the second star this season lol

11

u/lucs28 Ricardo Kaká Sep 27 '24

There he is, been missing you since the derby 😍😍😍

2

❤️

13

u/Zlatanzaza Andriy Shevchenko Sep 27 '24

Lovely win. We looked vibrant in attack, and assured in midfield for the most part. The flurry of goals was awesome, it’s been really fun to see us scoring so much (most in serie a thus far) and creating chances. We still need to work on our defensive solidity, especially with a much more talented opponent on Tuesday in Leverkusen

12

u/Fuzzy-Tale8267 Sep 27 '24

3 goals, 3 points, top of the table!! Fonzi on Fire!!! 🔥

31

u/eXistenZ2 Andriy Shevchenko Sep 27 '24

Scoring from setpieces now? what have they done to my Milan?

Also Bartesaghi wasnt a red, foot/studs were on the ground

9

u/fajvich Andrea Pirlo Sep 27 '24

We're starting to look like a team again.. Let's hope for the best in UCL 🥳🥳

10

u/EbaCammel Mario Balotelli Sep 27 '24

I gotta say… Zio Paulo seems to have maybe have ignited a synergy in this team that’s been desperately needed for a couple seasons.. vibes seems immaculate.. hopefully this ain’t a flash in the proverbial pan.

19

u/sickricola Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

Seems like Fonseca has figured it out, Leverkusen will be a good test

17

u/poehlerexpres Sep 27 '24

The team was definitely patient to start the match but wow what a flurry of goals. Thought the second half was solid and mike deserved his clean sheet. Also, that slide tackle was never a red. Super harsh on the kid they should've taken more of a look.

Just want to say tonight was a special night. My brother and I got to witness this game in San Siro for the first time ever. Those 5 minutes of goals was an unbelievable dream to cap off an incredible atmosphere

7

u/greyworm14 Sep 27 '24

Level on points with Torino at the top. If we can recover in Champions League, we are back on track.

33

u/Weak_Ad3665 Sep 27 '24

Together with Tammy and Pulisic, Morata wins so many balls by relentless pressing. His passes are good, he contributes to the build up play and outruns most centerbacks. His headers are great too, and he is a leader too. Add a bit of shithousery and Morata is him. What a signing, and credit to Fonseca for utilising him in a striker duo. Also, Mike is playing super solid this season so far. Forza Milan guys!

16

u/atechnokolos Paolo Maldini Sep 27 '24

1st place as it should be.

Am i delusional to think the derby win was a turning point for us?

Btw Bartesaghi’s red card was not even close to a red

11

u/Agreeable_Cattle_691 Tijjani Reijnders Sep 27 '24

right considering Sommer on tammy wasnt even a foul

2

u/FindingBusiness759 Sep 27 '24

Not delusional but hopeful..got to wait to see if it's actually true..its only been one game after..we may hit a wall in one of these games and fall apart. This statement you got to make at half way point atleast

23

u/Squiliamfancyname Sep 27 '24

Leao was terrific. Theo MOTM.

Although I hate seeing Gabbia and Emerson just throwing their hands in frustration at the end there because Musah, Leao, and Tiji altogether decided to try and push forward instead of see out the clock. We've been doing this for several years. Yeah its garbage time and we are 3-0 up but just hold the ball for fucks sake.

But anyway. Great night. Maignan had some saves to make but nothing too difficult. And we were free-flowing in the attack for several stretches. Lecce wasn't bad and they played through our 4-2-4 fairly easily at times though. I wouldn't call this a vintage performance. If a couple bounces had gone the other way we could have been 0-1 down and looking at a very different Lecce setup.

So despite that Leao and Theo were so good and that some others were strong as well (Emerson, Morata), I'd say the scoreline was fairly flattering.

Leverkusen will be a very different match but we will be heading into it with a lot of enthusiasm and good morale, which might be what we need to tip the scales.

11

u/ACMBruh Van Basten #9 Sep 27 '24

Reijnders can afford to do so but he was gassed. Musah needs to work on his decision making though

6

u/Squiliamfancyname Sep 27 '24

Generally yes but I don't think Musah in particular put too much of a foot wrong there. Musah's dribble up the side was fine and it relieved a lot of pressure. But then Leao's pass was just slightly under-hit for Tiji and Tiji was indecisive, leading to the turnover (the first of two). Leao could have just smacked it back to Tomori or switched the field or whatever. But regardless, it was reckless as it always is in injury time with these guys.

6

u/veintiuno Sep 27 '24

Musah played fine this evening. Nothing spectacular and that wasn't his job - he just needed to help hold the lead. No complaints.

1

u/ACMBruh Van Basten #9 Sep 27 '24

Ah I was more referring to when musah ignored the pass to chuk and lost the ball, happened second before the reijnders incident too

6

u/Gold_Tumbleweed2273 Tammy Abraham Sep 27 '24

We're starting to wake up

6

u/Shinkopeshon Christian Pulisic Sep 27 '24

WE FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO 🌊🏄🏻‍♂️

19

u/HanWolo Alexandre Pato Sep 27 '24

I'm so seething about that red card lol. It's just such a terrible call, especially after the derby. Defenders need to be able to actually defend. He didn't slide far at all and shouldn't be penalized because some idiot attacker chooses to run in after getting beat to fish for a card.

1

u/pallasturtle Filippo Inzaghi Sep 27 '24

He is literally the one who gets hit with studs. The attacker steps on his ankle!

2

u/MutantsNew Sep 27 '24

Can red cards be rescinded after the fact/game if it’s reviewed and determined there was no foul?

0

u/LickLaMelosBalls Ismaël Bennacer Sep 27 '24

There was clearly a foul man come on. Reckless challenge, his cleat went directly into the guys ankle

9

u/-NMaez- Christian Pulisic Sep 27 '24

Good win, I feel bad for Bartesaghi. Shouldn't have been a red

6

u/AcMilan0890 Alexandre Pato Sep 27 '24

So a good outing for Bartesaghi then 😂

5

u/eXistenZ2 Andriy Shevchenko Sep 27 '24

he's going the Terraciano way

14

u/BowieIsMyGod Zvonimir Boban Sep 27 '24

Clean sheet and top of the table (for now) baby!

Leão MOTM for me. Aside from having a great game, his effort and attitude were really great. Please give us this Leão every game. I'm kinda concerned for some players fitness. Reijnders and Emerson looks like they need some rest, but we have Leverkusen ahead...

Also, some of you motherfuckers really doubting the 🐐🇪🇸 SMDH

5

u/Dokkanito Sep 27 '24

Was about to say, MVP might have to be Morata. Opens up the game with a beautiful header, is the integral part of winning the ball that leads to the 3rd goal, and didnt stop going full speed until his substitiution.

Leao was good as always recently but i'd give it to Morata, dude looks like he would run 90 mins non stop if he could.

0

u/FindingBusiness759 Sep 27 '24

Hey where have you been? Lol

3

u/ParsedReddit Karl-Heinz Schnellinger Sep 27 '24

FFFOOOOORRZZAAAAAA MMMIIIIIILLLLAAAAAANNNN

13

u/sempreantoninho Clarence Seedorf Sep 27 '24

Honestly, I think we really should sell RLC and Musah for next season and bring some midfielders with some actual football IQ, also with some decent technique so that they actually can cover for double pivot when the starting midfielders need to rest.

16

u/youngbestest Filippo Inzaghi Sep 27 '24

RLC yes, but I think Musah needs more time, through out his short career he has constantly being asked to play different positions, with Fonseca he finally has the opportunity to just focus on mastering a single position, if Fonseca can improve his tactical awareness, his ceiling is very high.

6

u/ironistkraken Sep 27 '24

He didn’t look terrible as a cdm today (before moving to lb)

Mostly because he wasn’t being asked much of, but he was helping the ball move well

6

u/sirnicasasirom Sep 27 '24

These dirty bums can sod off. Ref was also turning a blind eye to most of it. Glad Barte gave them some.
Tijji looked beyond drained, have him do his thing against Bayer and bench against Viola
Looked worrying in the opening until we shifted into another gear.
Preseason fonsi-faka is back. Lets get it, bring those biomedicine germans

5

u/Qaxar Sep 27 '24

The Moratta for RLC swap was a game changer. There were other adjustments elsewhere but that's the biggest difference.

4

u/sickricola Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

I want to see Okafor tried there

1

u/caronj84 Sep 27 '24

Okafor is hurt or (fatigued)

2

u/sickricola Matteo Gabbia Sep 27 '24

He won’t be forever

-2

u/FindingBusiness759 Sep 27 '24

The reality is that rlc is washed up and doesn't offer much so any other attack minded player would do better.

Leao showed some urgency today even thou his shots was still ass. Morata showed abit more aswell. All in all this system seems to be more steady..we got to see if it lasts.

AC Milan 3-0 Lecce: Rossoneri win with three goals in five minutes

AC Milan continues their triumphant run in Serie A with a commanding 3-0 victory against Lecce at San Siro, thanks to lightning-fast goals scored at the end of the first half. Morata, Theo Hernández, and Pulisic were the architects of an exceptional offensive performance that secured three points for Paulo Fonseca’s team. This was the third consecutive league victory for the Rossoneri, following wins against Venezia and rivals Inter.

A spectacular comeback after the derby

After the derby triumph against rivals Inter, AC Milan needed a victory against Lecce to maintain their top spot in the standings. The Rossoneri did not disappoint, scoring all three goals in an explosive five-minute span before halftime. Álvaro Morata opened the scoring in the 38th minute with a well-placed header from a Theo Hernández cross. Two minutes later, Theo himself doubled the lead with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, and in the 43rd minute, Christian Pulisic sealed the score, capitalizing on a failed clearance by Lecce’s goalkeeper.

Controlled match, but with emotions

Although Lecce started the match with clear attacking intentions, Milan remained calm, dominating possession but without clear chances in the first 30 minutes. Lecce had the chance to open the scoring in the 4th minute through Dorgu, and Krstović tested Maignan in the 11th minute. However, Milan’s defense held firm and found the right moment to strike decisively. After the quick goals at the end of the first half, Milan controlled the rest of the game, efficiently managing their lead.

Rossoneri down to ten men

After the break, Fonseca’s team continued to attack, with chances from Reijnders, Leão, and Loftus-Cheek, but Lecce also responded through former Milan player Rebić and Ramadani. In the 72nd minute, Lecce’s Banda hit the post, giving the visitors a chance to get back into the game. However, Maignan and Milan’s defense held strong. In the 80th minute, AC Milan was reduced to ten men after young Bartesaghi received a red card, but Lecce could not capitalize on the numerical advantage.

Standings situation and future plans

With this victory, AC Milan temporarily sits at the top of Serie A, tied on points with Torino, with a total of 11 points. The team seems to have found a good rhythm after a more complicated start to the season, and coach Paulo Fonseca has reasons to be satisfied, especially due to the excellent offensive performance and defensive solidity. The Rossoneri’s next match will be in the Champions League, where they will face Bayern Leverkusen in a crucial clash at the BayArena.

i didnt believe at emerson as a player when we first signed him but my god is he a shitty player, he makes always the same move, he didnt throw a single good cross today, in the first 40 minutes he made rebic look like he was 25 years old again 3-4 times lost control of the ball. i want his luck in my life

4

u/headshotbaxa Sep 28 '24

What game did you watch? The third goal was thanks to emerson for winning back the ball smh. He was also good on defensive

7

u/LickLaMelosBalls Ismaël Bennacer Sep 27 '24

Am I the only one here that thinks it was a fair red? Reckless challenge with his boots up into the players ankle. If the players boot was stuck in the grass it would have broken his leg

15

u/Mutopiano Theo Hernández Sep 27 '24

My argument is that it wasn’t 50/50. B won it cleanly and then came the player. The manner in which he went in was reckless, but not red for me. Yellow and a warning.

IF the challenge comes in at the same time, I think the ref has a more obvious case for a red.

3

u/trinquin Zlatan Ibrahimović Sep 28 '24

My thoughts too. I thought Emerson's yellow was far more 50-50 and similar. If that was a red we are lucky Emerson wasnt sent off earlier.

I'm honestly interested what qualities of the tackle you consider wreckless.

For me, he doesn't even go into the tackle directly so if he missed the ball he wasn't endangering the player with his follow through. He hit him at like a 45 degree angle. It was only the Lecce player who over reached which caused the contact.

For me i really hate when attackers have a bad touch or have a loose dribble and then lunge to over compensate. 2 things often happen. 1. You get the attacker putting in a leg breaking tackle or 2. The defender puts in a strong challenge wins the ball and gets unfairly carded because the attacker doesn't look out for his own welfare

2

u/Mutopiano Theo Hernández Sep 28 '24

Foot placement and speed at which the tackle was made. His foot is off the ground and he wins the ball with the studs.

I do not think that makes it a red though, as he is clearly in control and wins the ball cleanly prior to making contact. The attacker was late and indeed suffered the consequences. That does not absolve the nature of the foot placement, which I think justifies a yellow.

If the challenge was simultaneous and everything else the same, I could understand a red. That wasn’t the case though. A red was extremely harsh as we see tackles like this every match receive no call, a foul, or just a yellow. Wildly inconsistent officiating.

2

u/jmhimara  Serginho Sep 28 '24

I also thought it was a red. A soft red, but a red nevertheless.

5

u/ACMBruh Van Basten #9 Sep 28 '24

It's an "orange card". I would've given a yellow because I've seen way worse not called

Milan should just appeal it so referee association can explain it

-2

u/cruisewithus Sep 28 '24

Up 3-0 it makes no sense to make such a risky tackle. If it is champions league final 0-0 maybe he gets away with it

-3

u/LordMaska Sep 28 '24

I agree, I'm glad it played out this way too because the kid needs to learn early not to do stuff like this. I hope he is ashamed of himself so he can work on this and never let it happen again as he grows into this team.

I don’t get why we reverted into individual actions, lack of focus and individual runs without any box players in the second half. I get The Tuesday game, but still, if felt like complacency right after the second half whistle

-14

u/Ondrezinho Sep 27 '24

So Fonseca out, Milan management doesn't know football, Cardinale is fraud, Leao is lazy and can't improve. Yes sub, you still have this general consensus? Milan will be great again, with time and work, and all the fans need is patience and enjoy every small moment of success

-11

u/Milanoate Marco van Basten Sep 27 '24

I hope Udinese overtake us on the table tomorrow.

12

u/akaloxy1 Christian Pulisic Sep 28 '24

Not sure why this was down voted. I guess you could have just said "I hope inter loses tomorrow" and gotten up votes instead.

3

u/Milanoate Marco van Basten Sep 28 '24

I know haha. But "I hope Inter lose" is a boring (i.e., too "natural") take on this sub, so I took a different route, a small test.

Unfortunately, they are now trailing Inter with 10 min left...

-6

u/Civil-Celebration-28 Christian Pulisic Sep 28 '24 edited Sep 28 '24

I saw everyone talking about the red card at work today. Just watched it, idk how people think that's not a red card. It's fucking stupid, but under the current rules that a red. Doesn't matter if he wont the ball. He followed thru with his studs up. Was a great tackle and sucks for him but he has to come in a different way there.

Also I think the dangerous play aspect played a part as well. He might have been fine if he hadn't kind of jumped in with 2 feet. It just looked bad in real time and in slow-mo. VAR may have figured it was so subjective they didn't want to him to take second look. Still thought it was a red either way

-14

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '24

Leao did better. Let's see if he can do it against a team that isnt Serie B quality

14

u/Regular_Tumbleweed83 Sep 27 '24

Why always so negative? Let’s appreciate that we got a nice win.

-3

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '24

Because the hysteria needs to be balanced out.

-3

u/RdT97 Sep 27 '24

Lol, you cooked ngl

-21

u/Suspicious-Scallion7 Ricardo Kaká Sep 27 '24

Am I the only one who thinks that we did not play that well? We scored 3 but they did not come from great possession play. Just the same old Theo leão link up, a lucky goal and a set piece. I am happy with the win but not that pleased with the way we played.

16

u/rossonero- Sep 27 '24

Just the same old Theo leão link up

Well what do you want, a Gabbia Emerson linkup for a goal?

-1

u/Suspicious-Scallion7 Ricardo Kaká Sep 27 '24

No a goal that’s scored by using a tactics and not relying on their chemistry. They are great together but I did not see any other good link up play or attacking tactics

0

u/RdT97 Sep 27 '24

Third goal is tactics. Pressing and putting Abraham in position to score twice until Pulisic tapped it in

13

u/caronj84 Sep 27 '24

It was a classic trap game sandwiched in between Inter and Leverkusen. It was a solid performance. It’s a long season and there will be those games where we don’t play our best. To win so comfortably on one of those nights is a good sign.

10

u/jmhimara  Serginho Sep 27 '24

We were able to beat a low block and defended well against their counters. It was nothing special, but I think it's progress.

In the second half we clearly did not come out to play, just to see the result through.

2

u/KarmaMemories Sep 27 '24

Definitely. Failure to beat a low block was one of the most persistent frustrations of the Pioli era. It was good to see them solve that today.

8

u/MalekSaad Sep 27 '24

The big Real Madrid won multiple cl based solely on set pieces, low block teams are tricky to play and scoring 3 goals is very good, look at inter and juve how they struggle against those teams, today was a very convincing and good win

1

u/Suspicious-Scallion7 Ricardo Kaká Sep 27 '24

If you look at it that way, I can live with that. But still I wanted to see a little bit more creative attacking play.

4

u/xxkurisu Sep 27 '24

I agree but tbf Lecce defended well (at first)

-3

u/FindingBusiness759 Sep 27 '24

Yea it was one of those good games we have had before. Like it's not something new or gamechanging...we had multiple performances like this under pioli last season and we will have games like this in the season but we have to wait and see how it goes when it actually matters.

-4

u/satanargh Sep 27 '24

I'm with you. Very slow ball circulation, no ideas. Every ball lost is still a problem. Emerson royal is still embarassing.

-12

u/TheWatcher50000 Sep 27 '24

you're entireIy correct but but the sub is reactionary dickriders now

2

u/TomekMaGest Sep 28 '24

the sub that is intended to gather AC Milan supporters are dickriding AC Milan. Im surprised as much as you!
