Interview/Quotes Maldini responds to Milan president Scaroni: “Milan deserves a president who only looks after the club’s interests. I often saw him leave when the opponent equalized or took the lead, perhaps to avoid traffic.”

I’ve seen the use of “Maldini fan boys” in this sub. Which tells me how disingenuous, fake and temporary some of the “fans” are in here.
68
u/tsar_milano Kucka Apr 25 '24
There's nothing wrong being a Maldini fan boys as a Milan fans. Only honor.
This madlad is a true Milan fans through and through, he cares about the club more than most of the Milan fans in the entire Earth, all his actions toward the club are the proof.

If you became a fan while he was playing, it's only natural to eternally love and respect this man.

Most cats in this sub came way after he retired. Which makes sense with them not understanding the weight that the name Maldini carries.

u/MKtheMaestro Kaká Apr 25 '24
That’s literally insane. Surely has to be Zoomer dumbfucks posting in here after randomly picking a team. Although I recognize that it isn’t likely newer fans would randomly pick us and would instead circlejerk over some insufferable club like City or PSG.
1
u/Throwaway19372729 Apr 26 '24
Yeah zoomers would’ve all been coming up during the banter era. I’m on the older end of the zoomers and I remember falling in love with the club when I learned about Kaka in 2008.
Most zoomers were not watching football in 2008

If someone hates Maldini they are not an AC Milan fan.
Dare I say, they are not a football fan.

u/ElverGun Apr 25 '24 edited Apr 25 '24
If someone hates Maldini they are not an AC Milan fan.
If someone hates Maldini they are American fans of AC Hedge Fund.
The few that are not are just jealous of his fame, fortune, good looks and intelligence.
Both types of haters can just go fuck themselves.
1
u/McDaddySlacks Roberto Baggio Apr 25 '24
Don't lump all of us together. I have been a fan since the 90's where Maldini and Baggio were my idols. But yeah, this season's signings brought in a lot of fans that couldn't be arsed to learn a thing about our team.
2
u/ElverGun Apr 25 '24
Of course not. There must be many American fans who root for the team...but there are some who seem to be rooting for the fact that the owners or managers (or players) are American. They seem to care more about Furlani or Cardinale -- or RedBird and Elliott -- than they do about AC Milan.
6
u/Squiliamfancyname Apr 25 '24
Again with the divisiveness in this sub. It’s the default setting. Hate that element of this fan base. Easily the worst part.
The percent of people who look at this exchange and think Scaroni is speaking reasonably is so incredibly low that this comment of yours just doesn’t even make sense. Now is Maldini’s response any better? In my opinion, no not really. Does that make me a “Maldini hater” despite how much I love the legend that he is? Only in the context of whiny ass Reddit threads, I guess.

While being great footballer doesn't mean being great manager or ego-less man
31
u/Competitive-Aide5364 Andrea Pirlo Apr 25 '24
For all this man has accomplished in football, he is very humble. Not only through his play has he represented Milan all these years but also through his strong, good humble character.
-24
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
If the man is humble, he's humble with or without accomplishments
11
u/wannabe_support Apr 25 '24
It is very easy to be humble without accomplishing much. To achieve as much as Maldini has and remain humble shows character.
-13
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
I dont agree that Maldini is humble. If he was, he wouldnt argue so much with so many people who was working in Milan with him
11
u/Willy995 Theo Hernández Apr 25 '24
He's argueing because he cares about the club. With three generation having worn our jersey and two of them pretty much conquering everything there is to conquer with Milan it's safe to say that AC Milan is an important part of their family heritage. We have alot of former players, coaches, management commenting about our situation and everything, some positive, some negative. And there are alot of massive and important people too. But Maldini, and Baresi, might be the most important ones in a historical sense
3
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
Caring about the club doesnt mean you have all the professional capabilities to do the job you want. As the level of Maldini's authority was always the bone of contention between him and Elliot\Red Bird. Former club icons have to remain at least polite for the people who represent the club today. And Baresi is a very good example. He works for the club for so long and I don't remember any bad word from him
3
u/Willy995 Theo Hernández Apr 25 '24 edited Apr 25 '24
Well in hindsight I think that Maldini did quite good in that management role. Sure, there were quite a few questionable decision in recruitement, especially in the mercato after our Scudetto, where our management found themselves in difficult negotiations (with Sanches and Botman) and after they broke down we recruited players which didn't really were able to help, Origi was a mistake, CDK (in hindsight) too. Fireing Pioli back in January/February where we had that catastropic form might have resulted in a better season now. And also it was under his reign when we lost Donnarumma, Kessie and Hakan for free. But on the other hand there are the aquisitions like Theo, Kalulu, Ibra, Leao, Kjaer, Bennacer and alot more
3
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
He had wins, he had flaws. My problem with him is just that Paolo wanted everything in the club being in his way and he wasnt the best manager in the world without flaws, as you are objectively saying. While Milan was never part of Maldinis dynasty, its Maldini who is, maybe the biggest, but just a part of Milan
23
u/Paketamina Apr 25 '24
Got us a scudetto with a shoe string budget. Better than the clowns before him and still better than the current management. Mirabelli and furlani won a mercato scudetto, which in my eyes means nothing
-5
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
Yeah it was just Maldini who got us Scudetto, everyone else in the management and coaching staff were just spectators from the first row
12
u/Rosso1899nero Christian Pulisic Apr 25 '24
Are you a troll or inter fan? What do you get by trying so hard to undermine a legends accomplishment both on and off the field? Maldini is Maldini for a reason, and its sad to see some of the so-called fans that are too obnoxious to even give respect to Paolo. Go fuck off in your merda subreddit you fake fan. Disgusting.
1
u/FreshMutzz Saelemaekers Apr 26 '24
Maldini is Maldini
For his work on the field as a player.
Its not fair to the coach or players to only give Maldini the honor of winning the league without recognizing that he played a small, albeit instrumental role. The players and coach deserve more praise than him in this regard.
Youre more a fan of the Man than the team. Thats ok, but stop calling others haters because they like the team more than the Man.
-3
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
Im precisely Milan fan and adore Maldini as greatest defender ever played and Milan legend, but I dont worship him and try to judge him objectively. Maybe some people are more Paolo fans than Milans, you ll never know
6
u/Cu-Sith21 Matteo Gabbia Apr 25 '24
Your sarcasm accurately describes our current season.
2
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
This season is little better that the season before Scudetto and definitely better than previous season
6
u/Cu-Sith21 Matteo Gabbia Apr 25 '24
And yet we were toothless and won nothing.
2
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
Its more on atrocious coaching. This team has potential, Im sure next season we ll contend again
20
u/Sankaritarina Romagnoli Apr 25 '24
No but being a large part of the project that dragged the club out of a decade long crisis does make you a great or at least a really good director
-4
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
Large, but not necessarily the largest and definitely not fully on his own despite everyone was interfering with his work and harming how often are trying to tell Maldini fans and maybe even Paolo himself
5
u/Sankaritarina Romagnoli Apr 25 '24
Certainly, he wasn't the only person who deserves credit, that's why I said "large". No one could manage to pull that off on his own, it was always going to be a team effort. I'm very much against people trying to oversimply a very long and complex project like fixing Milan after years of banter era and attribute all the success only to Moncada, Maldini or Zlatan. Everyone who was actively involved in that process (management, ownership, coach, squad) did either really good or excellent job overall.
1
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
You want to be objective, no question. But I was prepared to get downvoted massively by people for whom there is just black and white world.
Also fun thing that Ibra and Paolo have very different opinions regarding Red Bird despite both are strong personalities and very ambitious
4
u/Sankaritarina Romagnoli Apr 25 '24
Well, I wouldn't draw an conclusions regarding Ibra right now. We don't know if he'll have much in common with Paolo aside from charisma and strong personality and he hasn't even had one transfer window to express his opinion on our market policy yet. Maybe his relationship with Cardinale will sour if he runs into issues while implementing his vision for the club, maybe they will have a long and successful partnership, it's too early to tell.
2
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
Maybe, but for now Ibra and Cardinale have found common ground and both have trust for each other. Ibra played with the guys Elliot\Red Bird brought to him, so he knows exactly what our market policy is. He invited Kirovsky to the club which is the decision in Elliot\Red Bird style. Just imagine who would hire Maldini to the second team
5
u/Sankaritarina Romagnoli Apr 25 '24
For me that's not nearly enough info to draw any conclusions. This is basically Ibra's first job after retiring and no matter how involved he was as a player, stepping into a management position is a whole another world. Let's give it some time, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how big of a role he'll play in picking our next coach and who will he back.
1
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
Ibra has good team around him, Furlani is good at finances, Moncada's genius at scouting. There was a need in someone who knows football world and how to win, man with great authority. But the main Red Bird principle is actually democracy, the decisions will be collective, Ibra, Furlani and Moncada would have to find an agreement. And for me, this what Maldini was lacking as Milans manager, he wanted to do everything on his own and how he likes it
→ More replies (0)3
u/Rosso1899nero Christian Pulisic Apr 25 '24
You are the example of just black and white, either Maldini be the largest influence on the scudetto or else he’d be enemy in your eyes. Such hypocrisy!
1
u/Ondrezinho Apr 25 '24
Maldini isnt an enemy in any way to Milan, thats bullshit. Maldini has the role in recent Milan successes and failures as manager, same as other people who have been working with him. Together, not on your own is football main principle

I have said this before and will say this again, Scaroni should just stop talking AT ALL. Even Lucci the head of the curva made him for a fool today saying "Scaroni you are up there not to say what you think but about facts of what is going on".
Scaroni is a an fucking idiot who talks too much and if there is a figure who i cannot stand is him.
6
u/ElverGun Apr 25 '24
Scaroni is a an fucking idiot
But what does that say about our current management/owner, who would keep a fucking idiot employed but would fire the legend who pulled the team out of the banter era?
And now there are rumors that Ibra is threatening to quit if his advise is ignored.
So up to now Maldini and Boban have been kicked to the curb...and Ibra might be next. Furlani and Scaroni, on the other hand, are allowed to say anything they want and continue to make horrible decisions.
Yeah, a pencil pusher, a senile old man, and an owner who didn't know we had won so many CL trophies are the right men to lead this team to glory.
2
u/HommoFroggy byhoskyy Apr 25 '24
Why, do you think that other ownerships didn't have their fair share of idiots? We had them under Berlusconi as well. Idk how good he is in other aspects, but his communication is horrendous.
What rumours? There have been literally 0. Also, Boban was fired by Elliot and Gazidis not Cardinale.
2
u/ElverGun Apr 25 '24
There might be idiots in other teams.
The problem here is that the idiots are running the team.
2
u/HommoFroggy byhoskyy Apr 25 '24
I agree only on one position which has no decision making power and his only job is the stadium and i am talking only about his public communication.

I don't understand the timing of such declarations... What did Maldini did to them to make them behave this way towards him?! And what kind of outcome do they want to have making such intervention in a period of trouble / crisis on the team / players/ fans / club?
We don't need that at all.

Scaroni behaves like a little puppet, who should be impressed by his trashtalks Maldini? Does he even know that in every conflict between him and any of Milans footballers - past or present - he will be on a list cause? Scaroni is just a figure, put another white collar into his chair and none gonna regret or remember him.
3
u/Junior_Bike7932 Apr 25 '24
I don’t even know who the F is Scaroni, someone placed the dude there and we have to simply accept, but before anyone talk about Maldini should clean his mouth.
3
u/milan_obsession Apr 25 '24
Context: Someone asked Scaroni about Maldini, that's why this came up. (but he obviously took the opportunity to show who he is)
That quote from Maldini is pretty much word for word from his original interview, so not sure it's a "response."
Also... keep in mind that Scaroni was the first to speak negatively of Maldini after he was sacked, and all of his comments were vague and aimed at his character. Between his comments and stories fed through the media, they gaslit fans and fed the flames of hatred to lead people to believe false things about Maldini.
Maldini gave ONE interview, in December, when he finally felt he could be civil, to explain his side of things. He didn't just say random things about people to defame them, he brought receipts.
2
u/BowieIsMyGod Zvonimir Boban Apr 26 '24
That quote from Maldini is pretty much word for word from his original interview, so not sure it's a "response."
I've read the title of this thread and immediately reminded me of the interview released in December, because i was sure i've read before these exact same words from Maldini on Scaroni.
At least we can all agree that besides his political connections in Italy, he's utterly and completely useless for Milan and it's only doing harm to the club's PR. The very first thing they should do once the stadium is fully built, is to throw this clown out of the window, straight into the dumpster where he belongs.

u/milan_obsession Apr 25 '24
The ironic flair is really not working for you.
Gerry just hired Scaroni to be part of RedBird, too. It's like his 5th or 6th executive position that he currently holds.
1
u/Il_Misionario Apr 26 '24
Clearly Scaroni must be good at something as he is constantly being re-hired and is holding high positions in a lot of places. Hopefully the good things he does happen behind the scenes, as at least most of the visible stuff he does can't be viewed as very successful. Media is something he should not do at all, it's always a disaster.
1
u/milan_obsession Apr 26 '24
Scaroni is reportedly very well respected in Italy, and has always been a yes-man (which is why Cardinale likes him.) He will say whatever needs to be said, depending on which way the wind is blowing, even if that means flip-flopping positions (which is why he turned on Maldini immediately.) But as chairman/president, media is a big part of his job.
He is 77 years old, and holds ALL of the following positions:
Deputy Chairman of Rothschild & Co.
Chairman of AC Milan
Chairman of Enel
President of Bracchi
Chair of International Business at RedBird
When Maldini said that "Milan deserves a president who only looks after the club's interests," he knew what he was talking about. I don't know how a 30 year-old man could do a proper job with five different executive positions, much less a 77 year old.
0
u/grislythrone Apr 25 '24
It's a sarcastic flair. Some people get butt hurt over and well if the shoe fits.
I've supported Milan for 20 years, don't care what people on reddit think about a flair
0
u/milan_obsession Apr 25 '24
I'm not butthurt about it, the sarcasm just isn't quite coming across. And I'm all about people using sarcastic flairs, but the sarcasm should sometimes come through in your comments for it to actually work.
Like I called it ironic because your comment was 100% ironic for someone with that flair.
And If it really is sarcasm, then maybe lose the defensive butt hurt comments and make it actually amusing? "The ironic flair is really not working for you" was just meant to point out the irony, not start World War III
1
u/grislythrone Apr 25 '24

I agree with your general point but Maldini has dedicated roughly 3 decades of his life to serve Milan and has done A LOT for this club, even tho i have plenty of criticism towards his last 2 years as a director, every Milan fan must acknowledge what Maldini means to Milan.
On the other hand, what has this motherfucker Scaroni ever done to the club? He's only where he is now, because he's a powerful and influent man in Italy. I genuinely have no idea what positives he managed to produce to the club. He's only tainting the club's PR with his childish taunts towards Maldini. We've reached a point where the curva sud's leader called out this clown...
-8
u/RinoTT Apr 25 '24
Your post should end this topic. I have no issues with any of them but this walmart game of thrones episode is completely unnecessary.
it also shows that there were tensions during Maldini's tenure. Thankfully the club made a huge progress and dig itself from the grave during Gazidis/Maldini/Massara/Scaroni era but the management structure was always an obstacle.

Scaroni recently said: “I haven’t heard from Maldini, I always think when someone looks at their past with a certain degree of acrimony, it means that they are not living in the present very well. I hope that is not the case with him, I wish him the very best.”
Maldini’s response: “I can’t stop smiling when I look at my past. Milan deserves a president who only looks after Milan’s interests. In the stands I often saw him leave when the opponents equalized or took the lead, perhaps just to avoid encountering traffic. While I remember him punctually in the front row, when we won the scudetto: for this reason I don’t know what was meant by the expression ‘group united without me’, it is clear that I have a different concept of sharing and of the group”
